Depends on the Aircraft and situation :P To the OP: Welcome to the wonderful world of in-Depth helicopter simulation. It's brutal in comparison to ARMA, but the feeling you'll get if you put in the time and effort to learn to fly the bird properly is Beyond comparison.

Well, if his buddy tries to connect to his internal addresses, no wonder things doesn't work...

Depends on the service used and the firewall in question. Some services use uPnP, which will open the neccesary ports for you if A: your firewall supports it and B: it's active in the firewall setup. Apart from that, I'm fairly confident in saying that this is either a case of PEBCAK or a firewall-issue. Shadow: Which IP does it list in the games' interface? Your internal or external IP?

Excellent :D Let me know if you need a beta-tester once that stage arrives. -
iControl DCS - Android - interest check

Make one for the Surface RT, and we're in business :P -
I'd like to see a turboprop-aircraft of the size that has been proposed survive even small-arms fire and still fly.

You should tell the Army and Marine grunts in Afghanistan that the A10 is a thing of the past. I'm fairly sure they'll set you VERY straight very fast.

Amen to this. I've found over the years that age has very little with to do with maturity in general, and that you can as easily find a mature, polite 16-19 year old kid as you can a foulmouthed, ultramuppet 60-year old fart. And that especially holds true in flightsim-communities :) I also like what Tiburtius said, how some of his friends don't have the attention-span to enjoy flightsims. I have the same issue with some of my friends, who can't understand how I manage to study the A10C Flight-manual and checklists in order to try to learn how to fly and fight effectively, and I usually get a sea of dumbfounded faces when I try to explain the immense feeling of satisfaction I get through understanding and mastering any given procedure or system.

This community is among the nicest I've been in, although it's somewhat interesting to see that anyone coming in here with a chip on their shoulder and an axe to grind quickly finds out that there are sharks in these waters :D Plus, of course, effective moderation absolutely helps. I'm glad that the DCS-products don't cater to some of the same crowd that hangs around at the BIStudios-boards, or even worse *shudders* the 1C Bananaboards for IL2: CLoD. Now there was a vicious community..

Military and Aviation News Thread (NO DISCUSSION)
Fjordmonkey replied to topol-m's topic in Military and Aviation
If the GC's didn't secure it correctly, the pilot SHOULD have noticed it on his walkaround unless, of course, he did a shoddy job at it. Could also be pilot error, or as you mentioned, a malfunction that caused the round to release. Could be a mechanical issue in the pylon, the lugs on the round or something as simple as a malfunctioning SMS that caused it. -
Clear skies, gentle winds, JuJuman. Warm thoughts and wishes to your family and friends. You will be remembered.

Flight Highschool - a comic about anthropomorphic military aircraft
Fjordmonkey replied to Zakatak's topic in Chit-Chat
I giggled myself silly to some of these :P -
A possible Tomcat in DCS? I guess it's that time again.... STFU AND TAKE MY MONEY! :D You just KNOW you'll see umpteen variants of people buzzing the towers all over the place :D

It is, from what I've understood, less of a pig to fly than the T-frog.

Who among you wants an F-16 for DCS - Petition here!
Fjordmonkey replied to WildBillKelsoe's topic in Chit-Chat
Do I want an F-16 in DCS World? Yes, but only if it's done at the same level of detail as the A10C. Which I don't think will happen anytime soon. Do I want the F16 bad enough to bump the Hornet/Rhino and Mudhen? No. -
You forget that the setting they were asked to do this in, which was at Farnborough. Which is a tradeshow. Which is NOT an arena where you want to be proven to be inferior in any contest between aircraft. The Su-35's manouverability is good, yes. But it is by NO means invincible, just as the F22, F35, Eurofighter or any other type of aircraft that flies the sky. Hell, even a MiG-21 can get a guns-only kill on an F22 if the F22-pilot quacks up. Which, in case you didn't know, humans are quite prone to doing. One bad call can and will end your life in a fight, even if you're in an aircraft that should be superior in every measurable parameter.

I'm old enough to know better, but still young enough to say Feck it and still do it :P I've survived my own and the worlds general stupidity for 37 winters so far.
-
Yup. It's the same Vampire T.55 that was in Finland. Flown by Per G. Strømmen. The F16 is the celebration-machine for the 100 years of Airpower in Norway last year. Tailnumber 686, flown by Major Eskil Amdal :)
-
The two Vampires are Norwegian, but were given Finnish markings for the trip and airshow :) Nice pics, though :D

You should try telling that to those that have faced it in combat, mock or not. Because trust me, they won't be having any such notions. Besides. Old joke is so old that it belongs in a retirement-home. Or the grave.

Next DCS (Russian) Fixed Wing Aircraft Wish List
Fjordmonkey replied to Milene's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Why? Because there's little money in it, that's why. Then again, you'll probably never understand that. -
Military and Aviation News Thread (NO DISCUSSION)
Fjordmonkey replied to topol-m's topic in Military and Aviation
It's an armored and armed cropduster :P Somehow that very thought is scary. -
This is true, but then you might as well just strap one single-barrel 40mm Bushmaster or two 30mm Bushmasters onto the aircraft instead, and save yourself both the hassle with size and recoil that a 40mm rotary would introduce and the costs of developing that weapon. True, apart from the whole shock&awe-factor. I'd be pretty scared if it started raining ATGM's, but I'd forcefully eject my guts through the pooper if it started raining 3000 rounds per minute of 40mike :D As a side-note, the new version of the Spooky, the AC-130J, will have only a single 30mm Bushmaster-cannon, but also have Griffin and Viper Strike-missiles in combination with a very extensive avionics-package.
-
I don't really think we'll see a rotary 40mm gun-system for use in aircraft, due to the size of the gun itself (remember, the gun-assembly without ammo-drum and feed on the GAU-8 is 2.85m long and weighs about 281kg), the size of the recoil-dampening systems that would have to be in place, weight of a sufficient ammo-load and the recoil that sustained fire of such a system would kick out. The GAU-8 kicks out something like 45kN of recoil when it fires, and I don't really want to know what a 2-second burst of a rotary 40mm would do :p

If/when you're under an NDA, it actually IS top secret. Or actually, it's probably graded higher than that as well. Patience, young one. All will be revealed in due time.
