Neverending contest (military aviation knowledge)
Fjordmonkey replied to Kusch's topic in Military and Aviation
My first guess was a Saab Draken, until I noticed that the cockpit has instrumentation for two engines. I'd say that this is a English Electric Lightning-cockpit. -
Neverending contest (military aviation knowledge)

None of those, methinks. The Lancer-cockpit looks different (four engines = four throttles, plus the canopy is wrong), and the Spirit has a full-glass cockpit. If it had 6 more throttle-levers and a different canopy, I'd say B52. As it is now; no clue lol. -

RQ-170 Sentinel UAV? -
One seriously wicked vid, that. Was interesting to see just how much rudder-input used, and some of the manouvers had me going "what the..." :D Great stuff.

Here's the F-16.net's report on it: http://www.f-16.net/news_article3874.html Apparantly engine-problems.

Well said, Pilotasso :P

The spotlight on the left side of the nose like the one you see on the jet in this thread is called (at least we called them that in my time in the RNoAF 331/334sqd) the Russian ID-light. I wasn't aware that anyone else than the RNoAF MLU's had them, which is why I was suprised.
-
Also notice that the jet has the Russian ID-light, similar to what the RNoAF's Viper's has. Didn't know that other countries also had that one.

Uuuuaaaah..! I have started building now..!
Fjordmonkey replied to Triggerhappy69's topic in Home Cockpits
Usannsynlig kult, Trigger!!! Insanely cool stuff! You plan on serial-production of the pit? :P I know of at least a few others frequenting the norwegian flightsim-community that has been drooling over Black Shark for a few years, and I've thrown the link to this thread to them as well. Their reaction can only be categorized as *drool* Rep inbound! -
Captive. It's got blue bands around both the motor and where the warhead is supposed to sit. Live ones will have Yellow/brown, or just two yellow ones.

Gdayumn! Nice work! And I snarfed when I read the phrase giggle bunny :P Going to have to use that somehow :P Rep inbound!

New Video of "Blue Toads" Su-25 Virtual Aerobatic Teams
Fjordmonkey replied to Fox511's topic in Screenshots and Videos
Excellent vid, with music to match. Pure pleasure to watch (even after 15 to 20 repetitions), and I'll have to admit that I've got the vid going in the background just to hear the music :D Awesome to see people doing formation acro in the Frog, and I really wish I could fly with the same amount of skill and finesse. -
I've played the hell out of every Mechwarrior-game since I first got my hands on MW2. Bought MW2: Ghost Bear Legacy and MW2: Mercenaries, then jumped onto both Mechcommander 1 and MW3 plus it's expansion (Pirate's Moon). MW4 was okay, but I always hated that they went down on the graphics compared to MW3. Both the expansion to the stock MW4, both the Mekpacks and MW4: Mercenaries were also played. Sadly they never really got back up to the hair-raising fights that MW3 had (especially the underground mission where you had to go through an old mine, only to meet a 100ton-mech along the way. Also played Mechcommander 2 extensively, and that game is still among my favorite tactical games ever. There's been many attempts to add onto MW4 after Microsoft dropped the ball, with mixed results. MekTek has given out at least two mekpacks, where you among others get the Urbanmech and a few others you see in Mechcommander2. People have also been waiting for MW5, since the story doesn't end after you've completed MW4: Mercs. Sadly, Microsoft has pretty much said that it won't happen, and IF it happens, it'll most likely be a console-game. Which would suck, as it'd be another arcade, and not a sim per see. That being said, there's people developing a Mechwarrior-mod for Crysis. I've seen some of the images rendered in the Crysis-engine, and I'm anticipating some insane mech-combat in multiplayer if they can pull it off. Would be damn cool if they managed to make a singleplayer-campaign as well, but I don't hold that as very likely.

Not sure about the nationality, but it is at least an F16 you see through the HUD. Was unsure at first, but the sequence from about 35 seconds until about 40ish clearly show the shape and form of an F16. The HUD-symbology is similar to that you'll find on both Eagles, Vipers and Hornets, but without more data it's hard to be 100% sure.

Windows Service Pack 3 Coming Soon
Fjordmonkey replied to 3Sqn_Fudd's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Installed SP3 on two comps here at work yesterday (A test-laptop, and my own workstation). Only change I've seen so far is that the System-properties now say Servicepack 3 instead of Servicepack 2 :P Everything works just fine for me, although I don't know if there's any impact on gaming performance as I don't have any games here at work :P -
Norwegian F-16 intercepts Tu-95 with Escort
Fjordmonkey replied to X-man's topic in Military and Aviation
All the RNoAF-pilots are required to wear the orange suits when doing regular missions. Might not look good, but at least you don't die of hypothermia when/if you have to eject and land in the sea. Scrambles are much less common now than they were under the height of the cold war, but it's picking back up. I was on RS15-duty when the Kursk sank, and it's definately an interesting experience to have to scramble a jet within 15 minutes in the dead of night. -
Widescreen or regular monitor?
Fjordmonkey replied to RedTiger's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I was highly skeptical about widescreen-monitors myself, until I bought a BenQ 20" that runs 1680x1050 natively. Have two 20" at work running 1600x1200, and to be honest, I prefer my widescreen. Haven't noticed any issues in gaming, either. That being said, I wouldn't get a widescreen-monitor with LESS than 1680x1050-resolution, but then again, that's just me. Just watch the contrast-ratio, brightness and responsetimes, as some monitors might have a good resolution, but the rest just plain sucks. -
A beautiful aircraft just got a facelift in not only looks, but also capabilities. It will be interesting to see what happens on Monday, as that is the date when Norway expects the bids for our new fighter aircraft. In the mix are the Gripen N, and the JSF. My choice? I'd take the Gripen, no questions asked.
-
I know that here in Norway, JP8 is the fuel of choice. Not for drinking, I might add, as it has a VERY accelerative effect on your digestion. And yes, I am talking from personal experience... AB-cones on the RNoAF Vipers, who use the F100-PW-220E, varies in colour depending on humidity and temperature. Sometimes it's red/orange, other times it's got a purple tint with white tips.

It might be old, but the Phantom is still one of the most beautiful planes I know of. Good to see that the old lady will still fly!
