  1. It makes me sad to see the Phantom leave service. I've always loved it for it's looks, which is strange, since it's bent up and down in very strange places :( Worst of all, my plans for going down to Germany to witness the farewell-event went to hell in a handbasket due to economic reasons. Pharewell Phabulous :/
  2. Keep on Smilin' :D Grats, and looking forward to seeing what you can do.
  3. I was hoping to experience that both last year and this, but economy axed that idea :(
  4. Looked like a fair bit of clear-air turbulence, and then there's the wake of the KC-135 to deal with as well. In addition, it looked like the Bone came in a bit hot as well.
  5. Remember, this is a Top-down attack missile, most likely the TOW 2B. So it hits the tank at it's most vulnerable spot, which is the top of the turret. So most likely, even if it hadn't touched off the ammo inside of the tank (that's what caused the gigantic explosion), it would penetrate the top of the turret and filled it with both flames and molten metal. So the crew would have been just as dead as when the ammo went. Most of todays western guided AT-missiles have a top-down attack-mode, which gives them added lethality even against tanks that have added bolt-on armor. It's hard to see from the angle in the vid, but the missile sends a shaped-charge jet of molten metal down into the top of the turret, and that will cut through most if not all armortypes used on the top of modern MBT's. Doh. Didn't see you edited your post :)
  6. The world needs more people like you, Leafer, that care about those that cannot care for themselves, be they animals or humans. Major kudos & mad props to you!
  7. Center of gravity shift due to loose cargo, stressed out pilots attempting a too nose-high climb-profile or too early rotation-speed, mechanical failure in some component, or maybe a combination of all of them. Impossible to tell until the NTSB has put forth their report.
  8. Doubt it, since that would mean either allocating existing F22-airframes to Aggressor-squadrons or starting up production of the F22 again, neither of which is likely to happen. There's too few F22's in operation as it is, and from what I've understood, starting up the productionlines on the F22 is out of the question due to cost of the aircraft.
  9. May blue skies and calm winds follow you, Jim. You will be remembered. *salute*
  10. I'd personally go for infrastructure, as there's always someone somewhere that needs someone to plan, design, implement, run and un-bork large networks :P
  11. Computer Support Systems-consultant doing In-house techsupport/admin, for the time being, but moving on to a pure Systems Consultant-position in august :)
  12. One word. Only ONE word can be used to describe this. And that word is.... Epic :D
  13. Operating a tank, and especially a russian T-72 which this seems to be, isn't all that hard. A few hours of instruction by someone competent on it (which isn't hard to find among Syrian army defectors) and a few hours practice, and you're competent enough to operate it. Be effective? Probably not. But competent? Yes. This isn't nuclear physics, and it's a tank rather well known for not being the most complicated creature out there.
  14. The only way I can see this happening is if the gun-breech is open. Then a grenade MIGHT do enough damage to things inside in order to set it off. That being said, I do think this tank was already abandoned. Why? Well, first of all, it doesn't make much sense for one tank to operate on it's own, and it DEFINITELY doesn't make any sense for the tank to not keep its head on a swivel, so to speak. Third clue: The engine isn't running. Even at that distance, you should be able to hear it if it was. Russians are not familiar for building quiet things. Last clue: I think the commander and/or crue of the tank would have seen the grenade-handling person as he approached, especially on the second time, and that despite tanks being creatures with notoriously poor eyesight up close.
  15. Every time I see a yellor/red marked round I have to think back to my time in the RNoAF, where we had an airman bring a live 20mm HEI-round from the F16 up to his barracks and place it in the windowsill. He was working as a weaponhandler, and the round had fallen out of the bulker (Ammo-loading cart). Needless to say, I blew every single fuse I had when I saw it, but I was far, far outdone by the Officer of the Day. He was quite frankly nuclear with anger :P And yep, the GAU-8/A is one serious beast. 6 meters long with the drum attached, if memory serves me.
  16. I laughed my head off when I saw this one for the first time :P
  17. Not enough to create a credible flightmodel on, even if it's "just" an SFM. What in the name of the nine hells are you talking about? No. And I also admit that ED we used to know during the 90's of Flanker Nation will not be the same. But hey, I might be wrong... I hope so. DCS is about simulating the aircraft to the best ability and highest level possible. Balance isn't even SLIGHTLY part of the equation. It's a sim, not an arcade-MMO. The mere fact that you mention Ace Combat is a enormous clue that you have seriously NO clue what so ever that you're talking about.
  18. Ugly is the new beauty :megalol:
  19. That might be so, but it's not the F86K, which is something ENTIRELY different than the F86 :P
  20. I'd rather see someone implement an F86K, especially since I got hold of the T.O 1F-86K-1 today :D An oft-forgotten aircraft that really should see some love. Apart from that, I agree with Silver_Dragon.
  21. Ever onwards, David :D Thanks for the update.
  22. I'd love to see the Su-22M5, but I'd equally love to see the Su-24 if it came with the possibility of twin-crewing it in multiplayer :D
  23. I'd fly it, if nothing else than for shits and giggles :D Currently looking at scratchbuilding the MiG-41S in plastic as well :P
  24. Hornet, Eagle, Harrier-sticks? I'll go with Willie the Pooh's statement: Yes please, I'll have'm all :P And if there's throttlequadrants with that, I'll have those as well. Then again, I've always been a bit bonkers :p
