Sounds similar to my issue. I built a new PC with an ASUS motherboard. It turned out that the windows version on my old install stick was outdated, and I had to make a new install stick with a current version of windows 10. When I tried with the old stick, I couldn't get network drivers to install, I downloaded drivers from asus website using my laptop but when I ran the installer on the new PC it just closed and didn't do anything . It just didn't work. After reinstalling windows using the new windows stick created with the microsoft tool, it suddenly worked and the drivers installed automatically during setup as it is supposed to be. So, make sure you're installing windows using the latest windows 10 version. Hope this helps, you never know...

reported FAC/JTAC sounds missing
79Au replied to Jagohu's topic in Ground AI Bugs (Non-Combined Arms)
ED please give players the ability to force laser designation. I think it heavily depends on the environment if you would go in with cannon, or stay high & be safe when the area is infested with AAA and SHORADs. 90% of the time people want to drop laser guided weapons when they use the JTAC feature, and it's very common to attack soft targets with laser guided weapons. In my honest opinion, it should be the other way round: JTAC should always ask for laser weapon first, and only call for guns if the player is out of laser weapons. No sane pilot would go below 10000ft and use guns if he's got standoff weapons under his wings. In DCS, you can always attack a laser designated spot with cannon, sure, it's not what the JTAC asked, but nothing stops you from doing it. But it's frustrating if you need a laser and the DCS JTAC just flat out refuses to lase, for whatever reason. Something like "always laser", "always IR pointer" "always both" in ME would be nice to have. Oh, and manual real time singleplayer lasing using ground units would make a great CA QoL update... -
I think they should move EA release to end of march. And finish the AI A-6 tanker first.

Yeah to me it seems strange after they spent 3+ years developing the forrestal. My main issue with this decision is that airport lights don't work in DCS. It's 2022 after all, even FSX/P3Dv4 had "working" airport lights. So until we get decent airport lights on our $50+ maps, I'll be holding off any purchases that require me to taxi or startup under those black hole generators. Something needs to be done, it's simply unacceptable at this point. And I'm not proud I paid extra for the "super" carrier to get working lights in a game in 2022.

why does the f-18 not allow one to use weapons if the wheel door is broken?
79Au replied to Ramstein's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
I'm not a fan of such minor details that can break the plane for some silly IRL reason that is beyond the scope of this game. ED should make a hardcore mode for those who want all the IRL limitations and rules. I'm convinced it's just a vocal minority of elitists that keep asking ED to reduce the fun and introduce new limitations. -
Edit bomb laser code in flight, f18 feature or gameism?
79Au replied to Fulcrumkiller31's topic in Wish List
Please keep it as is. Or add a checkbox "change laser code mid flight = true/false" to the ME tab. Prohibiting laser code changes after takeoff entirely is too hardcore for my taste. It's a sim, we don't fly realistic, pre-planned "sorties" all the time. Sometimes the targets change or someone else killed them already. Freeroam/sandbox flights would become impossible. The comms in DCS are also limited (JTAC), you can't request a new code like you could in real life. I'm not totally against removing the ability to change codes, but then we need the ability to request the one we need from the JTAC. Same for the NVG/JHMCS, people appreciate a bit of flexibility and help in the sim. It would be cool if we had a "both" option in the ME tab, and use NVGs and JHMCS individually. -
I don't think refueling is too hard. I learned it in F4.0 using a logitech3D "pro" stick. Didn't take too long and I was able to stay connected during turns. Then I tried with NVGs at night... But yeah, on my first try I ran out of gas right behind the tanker and I had sore eyes from staring at the screen like a lunatic for 2 hours I'd say it's like riding a bicycle. First it seems impossible, but at some point it clicks and you become more confident. My tipps for refueling: Turn off the HUD. Forget about autopilot or autothrottle, we need the opposite, we need to be in total control of the aircraft, we need to feel the aircraft and make small corrections all the time in order to keep the plane in position. Look at the tanker. Try getting used to the tankers movement and "view angles", and how to make corrections. You really have to practice AAR, it's not like procedures or weapon employment, where you can open a page in the manual and make it work in 10 minutes. Basically, it's flying in formation, you focus on the tanker (fuselage) and keep the probe/drogue in your peripheral view. Now AAR is one of my favorite things to do in combat flight sims. But yes, a refueling assistant/autopilot would be a good thing in my opinion, let the sim do the work for you, sit back and enjoy the graphics.

AI excess snap rolls following waypoints - calm them down?
79Au replied to TEMPEST.114's topic in Mission Editor
No, there isn't (afaik), and it's annoying. The tankers also suffer from this issue, it breaks the immersion if they bank erratically during turns. A circle orbit should be a perfect circle with constant bank angle, and a race track orbit should have smooth transistions.- 1 reply

Great stuff. The other parts, AFD-100927-061 to -065, are also very interesting. https://sgp.fas.org/library/

Apparently the (most?) buildings are destructible, but they seem to have way too much HP. There's that mansion at H3 airbase. I managed to destroy it after dropping 3 or 4 2000lb JDAMs. Then I tried Hellfires with Apache. 16 missiles, but ZERO visible damage. Some didn't hit the building though, maybe that's another bug. (I used AI units for this test, tgt point in center of building) Bridge at Ar Raqqa was undamaged after 2x2000lb JDAMs. I mean, seriously? On a $60 map for a combat flight simulator? Not impressed to say the least.

I'm not sure anymore, but I believe it was the "Bathymetry" update that broke the ports. IIRC before the/some update the ships just drove through the seafloor if it was too shallow, but at some point there was a change, and the ships got stuck. Even smaller ones, like the new Combattante can't use large ports anymore, like Bandar Abbas. Most of the ports on the map suffer from this issue. The small marinas have unnecessary "choke points" between the wall-gaps at the entry. 10ft or less. Bandar e Jask for example has a small port with warehouses, but no ships can enter the port except (maybe) the smallest boats. When I go to google maps I see a couple warships that look like the very Combattante ship we have in DCS. (And that's great, really appreciate new PG assets!) But in DCS it can't even sail out of Bandar Abbas. To me the problem is pretty obvious: When the map was made, seafloor depth didn't matter, but now it does and something needs to be done. Most ports are unusable, especially for medium and large ships. Most of the major port areas are affected, ports that see quite large ships IRL. Remove the collision of the sea floor, or make corrections to port depths. But right now the situation is not good at all. Correct me if I'm wrong (I could make a mission/track, but all you have to do is hover with mouse on F10 map and/or place ships in large ports and watch them getting stuck.) I'd love to start my long freeroam missions with the carrier leaving port. Maybe do a huey supply mission while they leave, or just sit back and enjoy the eye candy. Hop into the F-14 when the carrier turns into the wind. PS: I just checked Jebel Ali Naval Base with the Forrestal. The port is way too shallow and it got stuck.

The Mirage F1 is a reason to reopen this case and try to convince ED to include Basrah, Qatar/Bahrain and Bushehr Nuclear PP. Maybe Ugra is already working on a full size Iraq map, I hope they didn't stop at H3, plus they already have the right assets, so to me it's very likely that we're close to the official announcement! Plus, they like old ruins. Iraq is/was the cradle of civilization. Many of the ancient Sumerian cities are located in the south of Iraq near Basrah. Basrah didn't exist back then, because this area was still part of the Persian Gulf and under water, before the Euphrates and Tigris river washed down sediment, and created this river delta. To a certain degree, it was man-made because logging activity contributed to the erosion. "Initially", the Euphrates and Tigris rivers did not come together before entering the Persian Gulf, and that confluence north of Basrah didn't exist back then. I know, I disgress, but in my opinion this area (Iraq) is the most interesting of all. Please ED, hire someone to make an Iraq map, it will be well worth it. There are so many stories and podcasts about this area, it's gonna become the #1 map over night.
