  1. God... reading this thread, I don't know whether to feel old or just kinda dumb. I wonder if google has a translator for this...
  2. THANKS LOTS~! Recoil--THANKS! I'll make a note of it. ~Moosh
  3. Avatar 72's helpful acronym list http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=61313&highlight=acronym --inspired me to make a powerpoint file to enable me to quiz myself as a tool to help me on the learning curve. I'm posting it here so that it might help others...and maybe inspire others to add to it or help me improve it so that it might become more useful. This humble file is merely intended to help the learning impaired among us--like yours truly-- to get and keep up to speed with all the bits of essential info needed to fly and to check comprehension of a reading of the manual. As I go through the manual and training missions, I've added on slides piece-meal. This is a WIP. There are only a few for now, but I thought it might have potential as a learning tool as the file grows in size. It might be a useful supplement to our reading... Cheers to all. And thanks to Matt W and all for making life fun and interesting. ~Moosh http://www.mediafire.com/?owq26win4d8pb29
  4. From the Manual: "The ANCHOR page is displayed when the ANCHOR PT Page line select key is depressed within the WP MENU Page. Also referred to as a ―Bullseye‖, the anchor point is an arbitrary geographic location that is used as a common reference for units operating in the same general area. The anchor point may be displayed on the Tactical Awareness Display (TAD) and as data on the HUD." Q1) Is there a circumstance where both Bullseye and Anchorpoint are Not the same. Given that pilot can choose to create one in flight...it would seem this defeats the purpose of a mutually referenced point. Q2) If my hud indicates "Bullseye 254/13.6M" Does this, in fact, mean that I am WSW of Bullseye position? In the corner of one MFD, Falcon 4.0 had, in one early iteration, two numeric values one of which was encircled and a caret would rotate 360 degrees according to juxtaposition of pilot. I could never get my head around this and was constantly confused. I would appreciate any of you gents shedding some light on this. Cheers, Moosh
  5. Depressible Pipper My girlfriend has one of these, but I can never find it.
  6. FW... Hang in there bud. I actually felt like giving up on this sim... ashamed and frustrated. Remember in Falcon when you finally mastered the Nav system...or how to coordinate flights on the map from several bases to make a Gorilla sortie? --remember that thrill..that kind of lost it's thrill after a few months? Well-- That opportunity is back--in spades in this sim. The simple notion of getting out of it what you put into it. It comes piece-meal..but the satisfaction of mastering one avionics system or the suite of AG weapons or the comms even... It's back. It's yours for the taking. It's not low hanging fruit, though. You gotta challenge yourself...be patient with the sim and yourself. And be courteous to the folks here. They'll help you out with any specific Q. you've got. Your disposition of this sim will change... give it a bit of time. --Just don't ask me anything, It's been almost 2months and I'm a complete tw*t in the cockpit. Cheers, Moosh :headinarse:
  7. wow...This is just amazing. Exactly what I was looking for as well. I hesitate to ask this. I hate to be a lazy luddite but would boredtechie be kind enough to post his file so I and some of my tech-challenged brothers can use that file? :worthy:
  8. I get too many commercials on the ATC channel. :megalol:  :tomato: I'm here all week.
  9. This may sound a bit nerdy, but if I'm getting gunpowder --or particulate matter--from my Depleted Uranium rounds into my respiratory system... I'm thinking of suing my employer. At the very least, I'm gonna gargle a bit before I go home to kiss my wife. This issue never occurred to me until now...Isn't there a way to protect our pilots from this? --Wags, get on it, will ya? Cheers All, Moosh
  10. --a diamond ring. ...but then you'll have to deal with her mother the rest of your life. Actually BETTY kind of fascinates me. The psychology behind using a woman's voice over a man's voice. Here's one Betty that actually sounds a bit like Fran Drescher. The woman with--hands down--the most annoying voice on the planet. Years ago, Mercedes and Stanford U. were experimenting with male and female voices for GPS in Germany and during the several week pilot program--all the men drivers grew increasingly anxious and finally disabled the female voice function because they couldn't stand getting directions from a woman. LOL --If I'm so intently strafing a fortified AAA position, it makes sense to have that voice bitch at me from becoming part of that position myself. I imagine the choice may have deep roots to a Mother shouting to her toddler, "No! That's HOT!" I wonder if it has the same effect on female pilots. Or would a man's voice be equivalent. --"Bitchin' Bob" like in the RAF's BAE Hawk trainer. Anyway...the details in this sim are pretty overwhelming. Even the "Pull-up! pull-up!" sound...if you listen closely...isn't consistent. It isn't simply a loop of the first two syllables. They vary ever so slightly. If it is authentic... In a multi-million dollar weapons system in which everything has a specific reason for it's implementation...I wonder what the reason is for this specific recording.
  11. Thanks Lots! I'll check those charts out. I'll look out for more PAPIs as well. Cheers, Moosh **For others' reference** http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=60370 http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=61349
  12. One of the best things of this sim is this board. People are really helpful. --now that I've buttered you up...I've got a noob Q. I'm learning ILS landing as per the tutorial. ...GPS CUD DIVert ...UFC "Func" + "Nav" (2) button Then I suppose I sent the ATC Frequency plus set up the ILS receiver. On the left panel I set it up to 1300.00 which, I suppose, is the ACT frequency. I get this and the ILS receiver confused. --At any rate, on the right panel... I want to set up the radio freq. But have not found the correct radio setting in the manual for that field. Question 1: Is there info on board--perhaps on the UFCD? to guide me to a particular airfield's radio frequency? --the data to be entered on my lower right panel, that is? I wasn't able to contact ATC... Many thanks for the help. I can't remember when something as simple as landing felt so immersive--esp at night. Question 2: I don't see PAPI lights at this and other airfields. --I've seen one at one end of Batumi...but not the other. What happens if I have to land into the wind towards the shore-one day when the wind direction is in the reverse direction? MANY Thanks for the help. Moosh P.S. I'm in Seoul and there are Naval drills off the coast in the West Sea tomorrow... If I don't respond immediately in this thread...it's probably cause artillery fire has taken out my WIFI.:bye_3:
  13. It is, btw, very useful. Thanks for your contribution to help us noobs out. :D
  14. This is, however, rather dated --being pre-beta 3. Isn't it?
  15. Thanks all for your help. I've never used a mousewheel mouse. I've always used a logitech trackball. I'm...uh...in love with my track-ball. It's accuracy, is ease of use, it's smoothness...(sorry) Hmm... I only have one...--does this mean I'm going to have to lose it to fly this sim? Thanks again, Moosh
  16. Can't do the landing mission (training mission) as I can't seem to change the right frequency to ".15". Anyone else having trouble with this? I hear a click. The base knob seems to be shifting to it's 3,6,9 and 12 oclock position using right and left click alternatively. --nothing in the ILS window indicates a change. Anyone with a suggestion with this? Thanks. Moosh
  17. Very helpful... Thanks!
  18. When one refers to "coolie hat". Is it safe to assume that both parties have a throttle? I'm having some trouble with the switchology in this sim. Is the "coolie hat" smth that I could just assign a key to on the keyboard? Or perhaps to an unused button the base of my stick? (logitech 3D) Many thanks!
  19. I wonder if someone can help me. I've contacted 2 admins but haven't heard back--it's been a couple of weeks. I seem to have access to this forum, I've been a member for a couple of weeks, but I seem to be denied access repeatedly to files on the forum like the Nevada terrain fix or the keylist file that someone has kindly put together. http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=61290 In fact, every hyperlink to a thread within this forum refuses my entry. What gives? I would appreciate any help. Many many thanks, Moosh P.S. Could it be that I didn't enter my DCS a10c code when registering for the forum? If there is a clear place to show proof of purchase, I would have done so.:cry_2::helpsmilie:
