  1. Hi, I just tested mine out and found the same results, i run on a max FOV of 145 and to get close to the same image results for the su-25 and su-25t i had to increase the t's FOV to 175 but then panning round the cockpit is all warped and such. see image links below. http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f9/natedogg44/su-25tat175.jpg http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f9/natedogg44/su-25at145.jpg So really the FOV is a little bit strange on the t model. Perhaps the pilot is sitting further forward in this plane?? I have no idea! Cheers
  2. i would say the sense of speed on the deck is twice as good as normal. And thats only in the A-10 so far, just putting around in the quick mission. cheers
  3. Mate if prices are dropping and your interested, go for it, don't waste anymore time! Ive had mine for half a year now, and it is flawless. Its perfect. Ive run several games and still yet to see any signs of ghosting or anything of the sort. Games include, most flight sims, BF2, Fear, COD2 and many others. It doesn't get much harder for the screen than fast first person shooters. There are so many great things i really enjoy. 1. Several types of inputs in the back, with included picture in picture and picture beside picture, for seeing content for say DVI and component connection. This is great for long flights in FS9, where you can't be stuffed sitting there but don't want to crash. Just slap in the PS2 and play that, while watching your flight. 2. Massive resolution, and anything less can be kept to a 1:1 ratio (leaving black bars down the side), or fill, and a few others. Great for games that aren't native WS. They are the main points for me, other than its size! Get one and you will never regret it. The buzzing noise was in the first batch i believe, i think dell fixed them. Ive seen 3 of these monitors and none have had that problem. Enjoy it. cheers
  4. i wouldn't bother trying it on a 4:3 screen. You would loose too much of your screen size. It may work though, try it, got nothing to loose. The first step is to open your graphics.cfg (found in the config folder within your lockon directory) file with notepad and edit the following lines: DisplayMode { resolution = {1920, 1200}; --- Whatever resolution you like. Divide length by height to get aspect. bpp = 32; fullscreen = 1; aspect = 1.6; --- This changes the image so it is not streched Simulation { resolution = {1920, 1200}; bpp = 32; fullscreen = 1; aspect = 1.6; ---- Same goes here. (this is the important one) Then edit the file mentioned in the first post. The only problem is, you must set all of your ingame graphics settings before you edit the files. for some reason, entering the settings tab within the game resets the aspect ratio to 1.3333 again. Very annoying. Not sure if it reverts the FOV also, most likely it will. Hopefully ED can have this fixed. I wish i knew how this WS works with Track IR. unfortunately i don't have one yet. Maybe in the next few months. I would imagine it would work the same. I don't fly much online but for memory it doesn't change your config settings, unless you enter the settings tab within lockon. Good luck, cheers
  5. Hi, I thought i would post the final results of our discussion on WS vs normal aspect. http://forum.lockon.ru/showthread.php?t=13204&page=2 Above is the link to the thread. Basically, when running in widescreen say 1920*1200, most knew to change the aspect ratio to 1.6 in the graphics config file. This just changes the image so it is not streched. It doesn't however increase the Feild of view (FOV), so you just get a cropped top and bottom image. To change the FOV open the config\view\view.lua -- Camera view angle limits {view angle min, view angle max}. CameraViewAngleLimits = {} CameraViewAngleLimits[PlaneIndex.iSu_27] = {20.0, 145.0} CameraViewAngleLimits[PlaneIndex.iSu_33] = {20.0, 145.0} CameraViewAngleLimits[PlaneIndex.iSu_25] = {20.0, 145.0} CameraViewAngleLimits[PlaneIndex.iSu_39] = {20.0, 145.0} CameraViewAngleLimits[PlaneIndex.iMiG_29] = {20.0, 145.0} CameraViewAngleLimits[PlaneIndex.iMiG_29K] = {20.0, 145.0} CameraViewAngleLimits[PlaneIndex.iA_10] = {20.0, 145.0} CameraViewAngleLimits[PlaneIndex.iF_15] = {20.0, 145.0} Here you can see the view angle max has been changed to 145 for all aircraft, any more and the graphics engine starts to struggle. And as caretaker pointed out, at 145 we get the same vertical picture, but a wider view horizontally, compared to a 4:3. A big thanks to Caretaker and Slatr for helping in working this issue out. Below is a shot of the A-10 in WS cheers EDIT: People are complaining that the view changes dont help, but it changes the MAX fov. Thus the default view will be still too close. Simply zoom out with the keyboard, or lean forward and then re-centre if you have a trackIR. This will fix the problem, but needs to be done every flight.
  6. Wow thats just what we were after, thanks caretaker. 145 works well in all aircraft for me. Not too much FPS hit fully zoomed out (once i took of 4aa 16af!) I might post this in the general forum for all to see. Thanks again for everyones input. cheers
  7. Yeah thats what confused me, i was hoping to get the advantage of WS but caretaker has explained why, cheers. Does anyone know if it will be possible to change the FOV in black shark, so that we actually get an advantage from WS? cheers
  8. Glad to hear that it all worked out. Hopefully you will see some benifits of the 100mhz OC. I can't say i got much better FPS in my games due to it but hey, it must be doing something! cheers
  9. Comparing my 1600*1200 and 1920's to yours it looks like im doing it right, but notice the difference between your standard 1600 and your second 1920 (1.6 aspec). Notice even when fully zoomed out in both, you see a lot more of the cockpit instruments, and above the cockpit in the standard 1600 pic. In the 1920 shot it seems just to cut off the top an and bottom, rather than giving extra image on the sides. It seems that the default max zoom out is moved forward also?? What are your opinoins on the matter? cheers
  10. What settings did you change in the graphics.cfg? i obviously changed the res and the aspect to 1.6 but it seems that my defualt FOV is moved forward, so that im not actually seeing a wider view than normal? Even if i zoom out to the max. Could you post a pic of your WS with max zoom out and then again (same aircraft) with a 4:3 aspect/res with max zoom out so that i can compare mine. Mine are below. the first on 1600.jpg is obviously 1600*1200 aspect ratio of 1.333 and the second at 1920*1200 a/r of 1.6 much appreciated. cheers
  11. Ive had my dell 24" for 5 months now and i love it. ive had a 17" CRT and a 19" CRT on this computer and no way would i go back. maybe you got a bad screen, because i have no problems at all my mine. No shadow text or anything like that. Lockon and all gaming for that matter is just unreal on such a big screen. Great for TV too. Definately take it home on the weekend and test it out. good luck. As for the original poster, it is personal preference really, lcd's have come a long way in the last year or so. but really, you get what you pay for. a cheap lcd will have crap picture. Read reviews and if you can go to a store and put some screens side by side and make a comparison for yourself. either way a good CRT or an LCD you will be satisfied. cheers
  12. Have you asked at natural point about this? Im seriously thinking of getting the TIR4 soon, but this has got me concerned, my Dell 24" lets off a fair bit of heat out the top (which is normal for my screen). I curtainly wouldn't want to destroy an expensive TIR4 because of something like this. Please let me know how you go on this issue. cheers
  13. I tried overclocking my FX-55 and only got it truley stable at 2.7 i could run at 2.8 but did get some annoying freezes and crashes, although my temps were ok. Jumping up 200mhz would probably need to have a v core increase (voltage for the cpu) Although it seems simple enough to increase the multiplyer by one to get an extra 200mhz you need to know what else to change when things don't go your way. I would strongly suggest going to http://www.anandtech.com and heading to the cpu/overclocking forum and reading the quick guide to o.c. athlon 64 chips, im guessing the fx-60 overclocking wouldn't be too much different. Im sure there will be other threads on the fx-60 overclocking too. What temps is the CPU getting to when running these tests? for the best cpu test go to this website http://www.mersenne.org/freesoft.htm and download the p95v2414.exe(1.1MB HTTP) which is prime95 and run the torture tests primarily the cpu one. once this runs for about one hour without failing and your temps are ok, then you have a reasonably stable system. If your unsure about something leave it and ask for assistance, don't go damaging all that great hardware! I noticed your testing at 1280*1024, what screen do you have? If that is your res limit you may want to consider getting something higher to do your system justice. That GTX would be cpu limited at that res unless you used 8AA and 16AF or whatever the max was. cheers
  14. Hi and welcome. I too use the FF2 stick with flamming Cliffs (you really should get it) and don't have any problems. The main thing you need to do to fix most of your problems is got to your lockon directory and change a file. It can be found here: Lockon\config folder then open the producer.cfg file with notepad and change the "true" statement to "false" then save it. although this disables FF it improves preformance and solves all the issues you encounter. I don't believe there is a way to save your keyboard/stick assignments to a file but i maybe wrong. I just assign buttons through the lockon setup screen, and my CH throttle with CH manager. hope this helps, cheers
  15. hey, Those shots are fantastic, this year will be a great year for the flight sim community, with black shark, fighter ops (hopefully), and now FS X. Great stuff. cheers
  16. I got my pro throttle and pedals from provantage.com and posted it to australia, think shipping was about 50-60 bucks US. Still much cheaper than a cougar! good service from provantage too. quick delivery. cheers
  17. WoW thats fantastic Glowin. Obviously that new machine is working a treat for you mate. One question, will all/most of these movies be included in the campaign as cut scenes and such? great stuff again. cheers
  18. i know exactly what you mean, it all seems silly really, most of the training is with the laser guidence system, yet the first mission is all un-guieded rockets against leathal sams sites and such things in a little valley! cheers
  19. yeah i figured mission 2 was way to difficult. Is that the same mission 1 in the campaign labeld "Flamming cliffs su-25T"? Thanks for the quick response cheers
  20. Hi, Ive just started to learn and fly the 25T, i have run through all the training missions and understood everything to fight in the Su-25T. When it comes to campaigns and such im lost. I have tried the Flamming Cliffs campaign and the one labeled Su-25T campaign. In the flamming cliffs version im always carved up by the sams, and all i have is un-guided rockets, no fancy guided stuff using the targeting systems. I just can't seem to get close enough/dodge all those missiles and still line up for a decent rocket shot. In the second of these campaigns i can do the first mission no worries but the second is killing me. Carrying 6 of those s-5 launcher pods (6*12 S-5 rockets) i can't inflict enough damage on the two nato boats. I forget what they are called, but they only shoot AA guns not missiles. But after launching over 50 rockets with majority hitting the targets (4 passes) im usually one engine down and rather shot to peices! But still can't destroy the targets only damage them My wingman is as thick as a brick. Im continually ordering him to attack naval targets/ground targets/ forfill mission and rejoin....... and all he does is fly next to me! Drives my mad! I need some help here. Its not that im a bad pilot or a noob, i have completed all the A-10 campaigns around and the F-15 ones. I can controll and land the su-25t no problems too. I can't think of any a-10 missions that sent you up against several sams and AA guns without some sort of laser guided weapons. Any help is apreciated. cheers
  21. RC planes are pretty cool, i had a small trainer plane i used to fly a little bit, but its just gathering dust at the moment. Very expensive hobby if you venture into jet power. Especially if you crash!
  22. Man that is just fantastic! notice how his son gets like 3 years older! For anyone who speaks german, does he make his model a RC jet plane? He was putting in servos and such to move the control surfaces and seems to put in fuel tanks in various places. I wonder what the mass of the entire model is? Anyone wanting to take a guess? Im thinking 80-120Kgs
  23. man imagine the power requirements for that thing. Im thinking at least 800W with 2 12v rails at 40amps. CPU limitation anyone??
  24. Yep thats when i get them, completely random. Played for hours tonight, loading heaps of missions and training tracks, then boom, memory error. Glad it a known error and is being adressed. Thanks for the great support ED. cheers
  25. I find that changing any of the options except graphics tab doesn't effect my aspect ratio. Only if im on the graphics tab in options then hit ok will it default back to 1.3333 So changing joystick assignments and what not, doesn't change my aspect ratio?? Maybe some devs can comment on this? Im using the same screen as you gregp, pretty special stuff isn't it cheers
