The 109 is much easier to dogfight than a P-47 (well for me at least). It has a good balance of speed, rate of climb and turn performance. Guns are nose mounted. The 12.7mm guns are surprisingly effective even if there are only 2, and the 30 mm canan packs a punch up close. I would like to test it against a Corsair. I'm not sure if it happened in real life though. Maybe defending the Tirpiz in Norway?

If you are new to warbirds try flying the free version of the P-51 first. Overall the P-51 is probably the easiest one to start with. Visuals are not the same as the newer ones though. The 109 is my favorite even though it is an older model. It's just great to fly and is very a good dogfighter. The P-47 is a really good plane. Visuals, immersion etc. I'm just not very good at anything other than basic flight.

It is not really playable for me yet but I have not given up hope. I just need to understand why it's not working very well.

I need to do more testing. Performance on Caucasus was best but very variable frametimes. I plan on running some benchmarks at the weekend. I am disappointed as other modules are running fine. Stable frame times. Good performance. No change since before the update.

I am getting really poor performance with the F4U. All other aircraft that I have tested perform as expected with no change since the update. With the Corsair I am getting saw-tooth FPs and frame time spikes that are so severe I cannot fly it at all. Maps tested: Marianas WWII, Persian Gulf, Normandy, Caucasus. I have tried to attach my log file but it says: null

Yes. It is a challenge but the flight model is similar to other sims so I think it is accurate!? It's not the most stable of gun platforms. Not like the P-51. Ground handling is the real challenge. Don't you love mechanical evolution. If only we could let Sir Sydney Camm know what we know now.

I have most of the warbirds too and they all have different characteristics. It just takes practice. I am with you on the P-47. I love that plane. Flying it is great but I can't dogfight in it. Have you tried the Spitfire?

Yes. I think they raised the height of the seat about 6 inches during early carrier tests. Along with other mods such as wiring the top engine cowling flaps down to aid visibility.

How many different warbirds have you tried in DCS?

It is similar to the P-47 in cockpit noise. Same engine and similar sized aircraft. I have seen both IRL close up with engine starts and as you would expect they are both noisy from the outside. I suspect that the cockpits are quite well insulated from some of the noise. The F4U in particular as the cockpit is quite far behind the engine and has a big fuel tank in-between. Try opening the canopy and stick your head outside. See how it sounds then. Edit: nothing beats the sound of a RR Merlin.

That is that nature of warbirds. They are not easy to fly but much more rewarding than more modern aircraft. The flight model might be spot on.

It's weird as I had been watching it too and the timer counted down to zero this afternoon then the website went offline. Must be a refresh thing.

I have a Quest Pro and keep thinking about upgrading to a CL. I have heard very mixed reviews though so am still very unsure.
