well, as one who doubted the original 3D cards, I hope these are as much of a success. I guess like 3D cards, integration into DirectX will be essential to success. 3D cards are pretty much a minimum requirement now, but I can't see a physics card becoming a game requirement for mainstream games. I'd love them to, as I plan on having one... Considering the amount I've invested in hardware, including HOTAS for flying and Wheel/pedals for racing, that the quantum leap physics card potentially offer make them a must have for me. BTW I'm looking forward to GR3, but it looks more like a Sci-fi game to me...they're talking about the sort of things that should have been in Starship Troopers or Alien (2). And of a similar subject, Rainbow Six 4 demo is now out! bb

I have a tir3 with ve, and while I won't be ungrading I'd never recommend going for the older tech to save a few bucks. imho each of the tir products has been a good improvement.

mizzy, I liked the weathered skin, you should defintiely post it somewhere.

I've got the heating programmed, but I can't get rid of the metallic tone when it reads the bedtime stories. CH stuff look cheapish, but works great and lasts for ever. I'm still using the CH-Pro Pedals, that I bought about 1995 (crikey is that possible!), connected to the Cougar. Thrustmaster looks great, doesn't work as well out of the box, but mods give it great performance and it then lasts forever. Or least I think it will, ask me after forever. The flakey paint is just authentic...

buy the cougar, it's great. Hall sensors are more precise than any normal potentiometers (and they never wear out), and IJ's mod makes the original system look crude. I have some pictures of the original system from when I did my mod if you want them. I'd have to post them somewhere I think, or I could email you.

from what I read, my cougar lasted an unusually long time on it's original pots, but after replacing them with hall sensors and the internals with IJ's nxt2 mod (see link earlier in thread), the stick is improved incredibly. to the original question: is it worth $234, that depends on whether you can afford it. I think it is and it's also worth the extra money for the hall sensors and mod, if you can afford it. Altogether its a one time investment that's shouldn't ever need replacing. But it all you can afford is the $234, I'd seriously consider the CH products stuff, which isn't anywhere near as sexy, but is probably more durable, comfortable and usable out of the box.

well, I am anti-starforce and only FC could have tempted me to install SF, but I have none of the issues you mentioned. In fact I did have some issues crop up a few weeks back which I immediately blamed on Starforce. But neither updating to the latest version, nor uninstalling the SF stuff solved the issue. In the end I fell back to a checkpoint (with and continued WITH the SF drivers in place and have had no trouble since). So I think a lot of the issues attributed to starforce may actually be non-SF issues.

well, yeh, it relieved the boredom!

apparently they are moving to 09, but that's been delayed as the devs are all drawing flow charts.

And they don't break 512 bit encrytion in 39 secs while Halle Berry is giving them a BJ, just by trusting their intuition? But seriously, Pilotasso, what people are trying to say is: Eagle Dynamics ARE professional programmers, they DO have professional standards, they do 'compartmentalise' their work, they do use subroutines (and they will all be far more elegantly coded than you and I can do), and they co-ordinate many coders in a complex simulation. I work with 'professional' software costing 5 figures and more, and it all has as many bugs and patches, and as far as I can see, most of them do not achieve as much as LOMAC does.

lmao

LOL, so they only have to work on the code in the .exe! <smacks head> suddenly it's so obvious! They must be incredibly poor programmers after all! They can't even debug a 4MB .exe! which by your reckoning is only 8,000 lines of code! they've been doing it for months too, when as you say it should only take 160 man-hours (less than a week for a four man team!) to re-write it from scratch! Do I sound unreasonable? Because the above sentance is what you seem to be saying.

yep, it does give me a lot to think about. Like when I was programming also in pascal by coincidence) I knew that a flowchart is used for only small programs, other types of charts are used for real programs. How big was were your programs? I have no idea how big LOMAC is but I would guess it's several million lines of code, thousands of subroutines, and more variables than the weather. Add to that a number of different coders, with their unique style of coding and annotating (if you're lucky) and you've got a major nightmare job on your hands. I'm pretty sure they have sub-modules, son of sub-modules, and son of daughter of nephew of great-grand-niece thrice removed-modules. I'm not having a swipe Pilatasso, but you are comparing building a house (no small underaking) to building a city.

I think my post was a bit low key, I should have mentioned that since buying a TIR1, I've never flown without one! And that was with the dodgy mouse emulation, before enhanced mode came out. I upgraded to the TIR3 and eventually the VE, and they were both made unexpectedly big improvements improvements. I guess I've used it so long I've forgotten what a major difference it originally made.
-
currently not that much, but you can zoom in by moving your head forwards and vice versa. I think 1.2 may support more head movement. BTW I have no problem running trackir with lomac, but it depends on your system. Everything has SOME impact, so if you've got low fps at the moment, then you may notice a degradation.

I'll buy it, we need to keep these guys fed.

how is this going to affect us real fans who payed and downloaded the patch 30 secs after it was released?

as a London commuter, I appreciate everyones comments. London is no stranger to terrorist attacks, and we've lived in that shadow for a long time. Everyone knew the tube was a prime and obvious target, but that didn't lessen the shock of it all. As a person who always makes an effort to understand everyones point of view, I find it hard to fathom the motives of terrorists. Their actions have not gained them any sympathy for their cause, and taking the lives of innocent strangers does not bring other innocents back to life. There is an almost ironic timing to it, coming on the heels of Live8 , where hundreds of thousands of Londoners at Hyde Park, along with millions around the world, tried to impress upon the world leaders that yes, they are aware, and yes, they do care what is happening in the third world.

I've been using a set of CH Pr0-pedals for almost 10 years now! They have never failed, except when I pulled them apart to clean them...probably not CH's fault. Nice thing is the gameport ones can plug directly into a TM cougar, though you have to rewire them to get the toe brakes working.

A10 campaign, mission 2 locks up on loading
BBushe replied to BBushe's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
I do apologise, looks like this is a known SP2 issue, as solved by the extraordinary guy in this thread on the other forums: http://forums.ubi.com/eve/ubb.x?a=tpc&s=400102&f=38610606&m=3731010962 I tried coldcrews fix, and apart from the annoyance of having to having to click on two error boxes when loading the game (as he predicted) I am able to run the mission. Still, I hope this message will help others! But major thanks to coldcrew, where ever he is! bb -
well, due to all sorts of stuff I haven't been flying much, so I thought I'd try out a few campaigns to get back into things. I'd never done the A10 campaign, so I started with that. First mission no probs, but second mission locks up on loading. Is this a known problem? Nothing else seems to lock up for me. I tried a few quick missions and training missions with no problems. As soon as I try the A10 mission 2, I've got a windows bug report. Winxp sp2, P4 3.2, 1 GB Corsair ram, x800XTPE - drivers updated last month, trackir 3pro - v4b24, Audigy 2, Cougar hotas
