  1. They didn't scrap it because it was a new process, they scraped it because they couldn't control the heat generated by the chip and the power consumption of the chip. CNET news "Intel would have to put so many engineering and testing resources into qualifying a 4GHz Pentium to work in all conditions that the cost would far outweigh any financial benefit. Because Intel's dual-core chips are set for release in 2005, only a few thousand 4GHz chips would likely have been sold." For the record, intel is actively trying to keep up with amd, especially since many more corporations are buying\building their enterprise servers with opterons. They're falling behind and they know it and if you think for even a millisecond that their future plans don't consider what amd is doing then you are mistaken. Amd are their competitors, and intel is trying to win back the business they are constantly losing. CNET news "AMD's Opteron is catching on. In the third quarter--only the second since Opteron's April debut--about 10,746 Opteron servers were sold--more than twice the 4,957 Itanium systems, according to market researcher IDC. Major names have joined several second-tier companies to sell Opteron servers, including IBM, Sun Microsystems and, according to sources, soon Hewlett-Packard, too. " another quote: ZDnet "Overall, the test results tended to favor AMD's chips for mainstream applications. That's a potential challenge for Intel, given that the AMD parts are cheaper and cooler. The 3800+ chip consumes 91 watts of power at idle, rising to 172 watts under a full load. That compares with 155 watts at idle and 258 watts under a full load for the Pentium 4 560. The lower power consumption of the AMD parts arises from their lower clock frequency, as well as from AMD's use of silicon-on-insulator technology. AMD's 64-bit chips also support the NX (No Execute) feature, which safeguards them from certain virus attacks. Intel has announced that the Pentium 4 is to support the NX feature later this year. " I can go on forever documenting the competition between AMD & Intel and their struggle to gain the market share, but is it really necessary. This is big business and the competition is always a concern. So, if AMD is first to get dual-core on the market, you can bet your ass that intel will be concerned and will make the necessary adjustments, even if it means scraping one chip to start development of another to compete with its main competitors.
  2. Please bring us up to speed, is it able to utilize multi-threading technology????
  3. The F-15K has advanced technologies and weaponry never before seen on any previous F-15 variant. The Republic of Korea Air Force (ROKAF) spent $4.2 billion for 40 F-15Ks with deliveries starting this year and ending in 2008. I don't think the US is really concerned about the money, its just getting ready for the upcoming north\south battle.
  4. The overall advantage with this chip, is having all your background resources & services handled by a dedicated CPU and the active application using the other CPU. I just wished they had included flight sims in their benchmark tests. But, I understand why, this chip is geared towards business, pro media, and pro graphic applications. With high end gaming applications soon to be added to the list. My meaning was that ultimately, I will be going with this type of chip, because of my profession & simming, and its great that I can still use my msi k8n neo4 mobo with it.
  5. Some goodies for you CPU speed freaks :~) http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu/print/athlon64-x2.html http://www.hothardware.com/printarticle.cfm?articleid=682 I'm already trying to find someone to buy my FX-55, so I can get one of those X2-4800+ {What a monster}
  6. Yeah, what the hell is going on, my hacked plane won't work right.
  7. AMD has squeezed all they can get from their current manufacturing process. And they have been saying for the last 2+ years that a dual core process had to be developed in order to reach the next level. So, in that regard this is old news. But, the actual creation of a chip that is able to utilize such technology is finally here. "IMO" Intel is just following the uncrowned king, because they were in the final stages of releasing another soon to fail chip to compete with the Athlon64's. But they scrapped it, when the news spread that AMD had finalized the design process and were developing the dual core chip. I'll take my FX-55 AMD over anything Intel currently has on the market. I just wish it had 128KB + 128KB L1 cache & 2MB L2 cache, then it would have been an unbeatable chip. {after OC it to 3.0GHZ and H2O cooling it} I say develop a 939 mobo with the neo4 chipset, that will support two FX based chips. And incorporate SMP into the newly developed titles to take advantage of the processing power, And we are home. Dual core can be put on the backburner, dual chip\dual GPU configurations are the way to go.
  8. Who's got time for patches, they're working on the next addon. And if there's any patching to be done it will be included with the next addon.
  9. I wonder if ED would honor a poll from its customers, as to what ingame model should be developed next. The helicopter option would be great, but I think the FA-18 would be the overwhelming favorite.
  10. I think ED would do all of a favor if they included this HOT item: Sukhoi S-37 "Berkut" (Golden Eagle) Its russian, Its a bad ass fighter, and I would love to see it in lomac. Just a thought.
  11. It seems that with lomac, either the GPU or the CPU becomes the bottleneck. In your case, the CPU would be the culprit. You also, didn't mention if you're using AGP or PCI-Express. The newer high performance cards seem to prefer higher resolutions, but the catch is the CPU still has to keep up. And some may disagree, but IMO, INTEL chips are not delivering the same performance marks as AMD's. Conduct an experiment and watch your CPU cycles ingame, noticing when and where it peaks. That will tell you if your CPU is struggling to keep up.
  12. Thanks guys for your input. I tried the SU25 in lomac and couldn't really get into it. Maybe that will change in time. In the meantime I have lomac running without too many disrupting issues and I can wait till the dust settles before I get FC.
  13. I've heard all about the SU25T addon & improvements in FC 1.1 Now I would like to hear about the rest of the planes in FC 1.1 and how they differ from lockon 1.2 {Or whatever version we're up to}. {Improvement or the same}. Reason I'm asking is because I generally don't fly the SU-25. So, I want to know about the planes that I would be using, if I decide to buy FC 1.1. {No Flames or angry posts} Just reviews from people who actually purchased the add-on. Mucho Thanks
  14. $900 bucks US at monarchcomputers I would love to get one, but 900$ is a little steep. Maybe in 3 - 4 months, the price will be reasonable. Powerfull card though ............ probally can cook a meal on it at peak usage.
  15. WOW!! HUGE CAT DUDE!! What are you feeding it? Give the gorgeous lady a big hand, that animal must weigh a ton.
  16. Akula, thats interesting. I want to be clear on this .... When I go to full AB all engine sounds stop. {within the cockpit} .... I mean total silence i.e. nothing ... I hear the roar for a few seconds and then the sound just drops out. And you're saying this is supposed to be that way ??? Total silence, not even a hum ??? Thanks for any info.
  17. ***No one is perfect, ED included.*** I wrote this thread after I had a few drinks with some friends. I got home and started reading some of the posts and responses to threads. I don't know why it just got more and more hilarious the more I read. Some people really bug-out over things, especially flight-sim related issues.
  18. This has always been the case for me, I've just gotten used to it. Full afterburner within cockpit = sound for 5 seconds, then it cuts out. I switch to F2 view and I hear it, F3 view and I hear it. Back to cockpit, no sound. Any thrust setting under full AB, will produce sound.
  19. Another Quickie about F4: "I've finially gotten around to putting together a one click installer for SP4.2. Gone are the days of the SP series dance. Its now install from CD, run the SP4.2 OCI and go fly SP4.2. BMS downloads are independant still, this is a SP series release only." ***Mucho Thanks to Ktel {Who made this possible}*** At: frugalsworld.com
  20. Thanks for the link Prophet_169th Thats good news indeed, still love F4, I just hate the dance. Also, fighter ops may or may not be coming, one day, probally.
  21. That ruling just may have opened up a can of worms. {Good for consumers, Bad for the copy protection side}
  22. I was just reading this thread: **Pre-Order of Lock On: Flaming Cliffs Boxed Version at NaturalPoint.com!** And came across this statement made by jason: "Man, what is it with flight-simmers." I thought it was the funniest thing I read this week. And it made me realize how much a pain in the butt, flight simmers can be. I mean, just read through some of the threads past & present, and you would honestly think most flight simmers are on some type of drug. {whatever it is, it is being used in large quanities} lol!!! Each of the following events have stimulated a stream of bizarre and somewhat crazed posts. 1. LOMAC & patches {enough said} 2. FC 1.1 announcement 3. starforce announcement 4. distribution of FC announcement 5. paypal announcement 6. long wait for release of FC 7. actual release of FC and paypal related problems 8. starforce related problems 9. Interuption of sales related problems 10. Bugs and FC 1.1 related issues 11. Naturalpoint CD announcement 12. Conspiracy suspected by some who downloaded & then heard about CD. 13. Shipping of CD by NP. related issues 14. Long wait for ED to resume distribution I'm certain that I missed something, but the more I thought about it the funnier & more bizarre it got. Are we {as flight simmers} in need of therapy??? Or has this become the normal behavior of flight simmers??? "Definately, a different breed, No doubt about it"
  23. Both the MIG29's ........ F15C ........ A10 ....... SU25 ....... {In that order} Not a big fan of the SU27 or the SU33. Even though I fly them every once in while. But, I love the MIGS. The A10 could have been modeled better, i.e. it bleeds off energy way too fast for the type of flying I like to do. I'll have to see if this changes, if or when I get FC 1.1.
  24. excuse my ignorance, but is this a flyable???? and if it is ............ HOW????
  25. I agree totally, the concept of leaving mission particulars intact, while allowing aircraft, loadout and route changes makes sense and should be allowed. I can understand the point made by ZoomBoy27, "De-classifying: For me I want the classified for the ability to hide things. I want the Briefing to be the main focus with the map being the way I control the information for the 1st time. After the 2nd time it doesn't matter much. Payload control is not a high priority." After you run through the mission a two of three times, you know what to expect and that's where variety needs to be introduced. Allowing owned assets to be changed shouldn't be a big problem, as long as the primary objectives are met. This is the greatest point and best feature of a dynamic generator, you don't know what to expect during the course of the mission. But, with static missions, after I run through a mission a few times, I know where all the targets are and the best route to take to give me an advantage. {This takes the fun out of it} So, something needs to be done to remove the predictability of missions giving them more than a two use, shelf life.
