  1. At this point I feel like DCS would be missing something without his strange directions : )
  2. I did also notice in the redkite tutorials the interior AB sound had a muffled effect. Nowadays it's the same as the exterior sound
  3. In real life they also did loops in the Ka-50. That is a common thing with military transports it seems. They may look sluggish and clunky, but they normally fly the exact opposite
  4. Have you tried turning the grass off? It can be done in flight
  5. One neat thing you can do is open the cargo hook hatch and guide the pilot in while doing mulitcrew. The station is also clickable
  6. Is the 5700X3D really an advisable pick when it's two generations old now?
  7. You'll notice that every time DCS updates, or you select the option in the repair tool, it'll move the foreign files into a backup folder in the core installation, so you can copy them back if you wish
  8. A similar feature for ILS functionality would be useful too
  9. Yup, if you load a profile from another module it'll try its best to map them correctly. About axes being reversed by default, that's a hardware/firmware/software thing, and has nothing to do with DCS most of the time. I used to have that with my old HOTAS until i upgraded its firmware, and with my new winwing I don't have that issue either.
  10. Sorry, I was giving that advice assuming the use of buttons instead of an axis. Come to think of it, I could use the antenna elevation axis on my winwing throttle which is spring loaded. I don't think a non spring loaded axis would work well You'd have to talk to an SME for specifics, but I do know in many other modules (Hornet for example) with high gain steering it's pretty easy to drag the nose gear if you put a lot of input in, even at relatively slow speed (which I believe is generally considered to be pretty accurate). Though in the airplanes it's a lot easier to tell if you're doing it
  11. Bind the steering knob center command, and get in the habit of using it. Since we don't have a spring loaded knob it's very easy to drag the wheel and have no idea what's happening unless you visually look at the knob constantly. The centering button helps a fair bit
  12. Some things I've noticed is a lack of buffeting when crossing translational lift and during VRS. Also a lack of the distinctive blade flap sound when maneuvering, which most other DCS helicopters have. As someone who knows what you're talking about, what would be realistic?
  13. I always appreciate more Canadian stuff : ) Are you posting them to userfiles as well?
  14. No need to back up unless you want to. You can just run the repair tool and it'll sort it out
  15. “No one knows what happens if you roll a helicopter upside down, throw in a boot full of anti-torque and open the door. Why? Because if you did that in the real world, you'd probably die.“ I'm not an SME, so I can't comment on specific behaviors, and there certainly could be some flight model weirdness at the edge of the envelope, but keep in mind that this is a helicopter with about 10,000HP, and while it's big for a helicopter, it's not that big of a machine relative to others. And the tandem configuration is completely different to everything else in DCS (and yes, including the Ka-50. The coaxial design is quite different as well). So it's a good idea to not just assume that things are broken just because it doesn't conform to what you think a helicopter should fly like. I've seen a lot of flightsimmers in general make that mistake. From what I've seen folks observe within the envelope flying with the AFCS off does appear to handle pretty closely to a real Chinook with it off. But the lack of proper LCT, DASH, DAFCS, etc implementations seems to produce pretty different behaviour otherwise. It's unfortunate that they couldn't get them in for release, but hopefully, we see them soon.
  16. I've been wondering about this as well. Not everyone needs those massive (hard to mount) high torque bases, and even with the good pricing winwing has that new base they showed is assured to be expensive.
  17. I just got my new HOTAS and I have no issues with it except that when moving the stick in random directions at reasonably high speed it makes a creaking or clicking sound. It also seems like a spring or similar rubbing against its attachment. The movement itself feels completely fine. Is this normal or should I open it up? EDIT: I opened it and isolated it to the roll axis spring. Everything is fine mechanically, but the spring itself makes noise. If you put a little pressure on it with your finger it stops. I tried putting some grease on where it connects to the cams, but it's the same, though I did use silicon grease which isn't the best for that application. I also noticed that the roll axis centers every so slightly off center compared to the pitch axis even after calibration. Not sure if that's related
  18. In places where the procedural textures are consistent it looks really quite good down low, while still remaining quite good up high . I think there's a lot of potential to be the best looking map. They just need to sort some of the texture jank down low, which I hope will just come with time.
  19. This is one complaint I have. The documentation could be managed a little better
  20. They fixed the replay functionality for the Hornet in the latest update!
  21. As we were talking about earlier, the head tracking replay functionality is broken in the Hornet. I was hoping the next update (that has now dropped) would fix it. Are you on the latest version? If not one of us should post a bug report about it. It's a rather niche feature they might not get around to otherwise
  22. https://youtu.be/AAILvWvOrOc?si=Y-bOUG03WYX8SixV The camera stabilized thing is a pretty interesting idea for a cinematic! I'm also glad I'm not seemingly the only one that has taken interest in these pilot models... It's a shame that the Phantom's is a little bugged too. For the Hornet, have you tried with the camera further back towards the seat? I don't seem to have any issues with the head disappearing there. This is another interesting angle that might be worth a try
  23. There actually was more "margin" when the new pilot model for the Hornet was added, but since the view automatically shifts sideways when looking back to clear the seat, the pilot head would appear. It was also an issue with head-tracking and VR. That's of course very annoying during normal gameplay, so they extended the limits where the head wouldn't appear. I do think Heatblur's toggle for the head makes more sense, though if you extend the camera limits I do find there are some good-looking positions where the head never disappears. You could also try finding some real cockpit videos and trying to emulate those camera positions in the simulator and see if they work well. I tested it myself and it does seem like the freeze button doesn't work in the replays. I'd imagine that's something to do with how it's programmed since it's made to "ignore" all current inputs in the replay. I think the ED footage is getting those shots by the normal replay functionality that's actually working. I don't see any other way to get them. I think it's an issue with our current build that's fixed on the development build they're using. When I asked GlowingAmraam about it a while ago he didn't even know it was an issue. Hopefully, it will be fixed in the next update; otherwise, I'll post a bug report
