That is VERY interesting. I was wounding why I got error on some servers. I have the modified lua file to set the kneeboard position for me. That is why I get that error I guess. Wow. Thanks. I will see if I can figure out a way to use Voice Attack to enter the orders to set up the buttons, had not considered that. Mike

Yes, I know they are working on that simulation of a Data Cartridge, will be very nice, but there must be a setting somewhere in the LUA files where I can tweak it. I'm going to poke around a bit and see. Will be interesting if WinWing puts out a DTC device LOL. Or if a Thumb Drive can be used to simulate the Data Cartridge function! Mike

With time I have learned how to use the Reshade program to fix the external MFD displays to match the look (brightness and color) inside the main screen display cockpit. I have gotten them pretty close which is key to actually using secondary displays as MFD's (WinWing for example). However with Night Flights those settings have to be adjusted. I found that just adjusting the Gamma in Reshade to about .43 makes it about perfect as compared to day time flight where its good with a Gamma of 1. (Default). I set up Presets in Reshade and can switch with a few clicks. Have others found this difference? Is there another setting that would make needing to swap the Gamma unnecessary? Mike

I did a search a few times on this topic. I have to think that in the 'real thing' a pilot's preferences for the MFD buttons in AA or AG or NAV must be saved somehow? Each time I have to lay out the keys the way I like. Minor issue I know, don't jump all over me. Even the tutorial videos show the pilot setting their preferred location for the TGP, HAD etc as part of their setup but none ever mention saving this for the next flight. But has anyone found the file that can be edited to set up your preferences and save them?? I have the process of setting the location of the Knee board down pat, as I have to restore those settings after any update to DCS. Thanks, Mike

I finished tonight, but did cheat. I have learned a lot about flying the viper now I will go back and do the entire thing over without immortal and unlimited ammo. Just learning how to manipulate the targeting pod has been a huge help. Key was balancing out the color and brightness on the MFD displays with the Shader Add On, and for night flight manipulating the GAMMA was key. Getting good at flying without the autopilot set on a Steer point and then instead peaking at the target from a distance is helpful. I had a hell of a time getting good at using the TGP and manipulating the image to get a good fix on things. I need about 1000 more hours to be able to 'defend' against incoming missiles. All and all very fun. Mike

Hi, I was on a server that listed information about their discord server and said 'go there' for stats etc, however, there was no discord invite link. How do you get an invite? Particular one is Discord.apexdcs.net Thank you, Mike

was looking at this today and found this discussion. I had used the Make HTML before and found it pretty much useless. It just dumps out a table for each device with a table of all the possible commands in DCS that can be assigned. Instead it would be nice to dump a similar table with all of the devices in their own column, and not in HTML but in Excel format. I have Adobe account so tried their PDF to Excel converter, did not quite work correctly, so going with HTML to PDF PDF to Photoshop then blend the files with columns LOL. Kind of a pain. But I think I can make a workable table for reference. edit: LOL. made Numbers file added enough rows and columns to match output then simply did Copy from the Webbrowser and pasted into Numbers and made Spread sheet. Ok, I looked at that. The edit to the config file changing one line to "true" turns on another level of debugging and just shows the axises in a table form with each current number as you turn the knobs, that is just a different representation of the graph which is there by default. There were not changes made by that edit alone that improved the function of the zoom knob. But since you brought this up again and I was playing DCS today, I took a look and said screw it messed around with the settings again. If you change the acceleration above 3 it is no good. If it is set to 5 the thing just coasts to the end of each range (1 to 9 zoom) and back. So I messed with the other setting (don't recall what it's called sorry, I'll look again and edit this), default is 10,000 or something like that, I maxed that out just for kicks and giggles. I had read that you should not set that much above 30,000 if I recall, but figured what the hell, maxed it out. In SimAppPro you can see the effect immediately as the axis will move much faster in the graph that is present in SimAppPro. In game that made the zoom knob much more useable. Almost 1 click per zoom level, Almost. LOL but MUCH better. I'll fly a few times and see if that is the actual solution. Mike

Cali, I read that four times. LOL. Did not translate well. The printout shows F18 takeoff panel? Were you adjusting the Throttle base controls?? Mike

F-16 Arctic Thunder - Read this before playing

Wow, looks great. Mike -
Got though mission 9 and actually landed (well, I went off end of runway, but landed). I fine tuned the Reshade settings (I turned down the Gamma) and finally pretty much matched the MDF screen with the main screen image. This made a big difference. Also I am learning how to adjust the gain and brightness on each screen more effectively to add in seeing stuff on the ground. However, I finished the mission with immortal and unlimited fuel and weapons turned on, so basically cheated my ass off. But with that I did drop ton of bombs on every target I could find. Took out the SA8's LOL. And Rotor is a tool, he kept missing his targets. Mike

looking now, but mine shows Jet Engine Plane, dcs f/a 118c, and su 25t frogfoot, but no other files listed on that window. I have version 2.9.7.59074, launcher shows version 2.9.9.2472 as new version. screw it hitting enter. LOL> Mike -

WOW< THAT IS FANTASTIC because I was about to uninstall DCS, throw out all my controls and take up wood working with a dull knife. The software glitches wreck this game. Friggen HAD stops working, tried turning the HAD off and back on, brought back the Curser but could not select a target. Maybe the update as above will fix it. Thank you. I am on it. Mike -
Just a quick question. I was again doing mission 9 part 2 and when trying to target with the HAD, it would not lock on. Initially it worked fine, I targeted an SA6 with it and then tried to find with TGP (no luck), sent ROTOR after it. Of course he missed. Bastard. Then I flew all around where they said the SA11 was and it would not come on line, I flew at 7000 feet to entice it. LOL. At least I am getting used to using the bearing and range from bullseye to search an area. Is this a "simulation of the HAD messing up?" or did I mess up and do something perhaps to turn it off? I double checked my key binds and also tried using the Key Board controls but for some reason I could no longer lock with the HAD. These are the kind of odd software glitches which make a sim very frustrating. It takes about 25 minutes to just get to the part of Mission 9 Part 2 where you are trying to find targets, then the thing just stops working properly. Oh well. I enjoy the FIWOS campaign but such things take all the fun out of it. Any ideas? Why would HAD just stop working? Did I hit a button? Mike

I am still running an older version of DCS (no updates, just like 'no capes') but I need to update to get on-line missions to work again as not services populate when I try to do on-line servers. But am waiting for "all clear" before I update anything. What is the current status on FIWOS and Syria Map issues??? Mike -
Running same CPU, all M.2 drives, 4070ti, 128 gig RAM, have not seen any frame rate issues, at least not that made me not like the visuals. I found out from Chillng that the enemy sites are different every time you run the mission. And the radar for the fire can is not easy to see with either of the settings. It's more like it was not drawn yet. Not sure. It's still fun. Mike
-
Yes, that is in SimApp, there is a setting, then axis tune in DCS. To be honest I was very disappointed in the delay's when using that knob. If you use the slider it works much smoother, but not authentic. (Two sliders on the base of the throttle). Mike

I understand the MGRS, but this map has another number in the middle of each grid which is different. See the image below. The Grid major numbers are not a number and a letter but there are MGRS references on the corners such as CV/CU DV/DU which are MGRS, and it has numbers for Lat and Long on the major lines, it's the big number in the middle I cannot quite figure out. Just curious as I could not find with 'the google.' The downloaded map is quite detailed and uses the same coordinate system as the maps in the briefings for the Campaign, but not the same as the F10 Map. I could not find a good explanation for the coordinate system used. Each grid segment has a number in the middle with an exponent. Such as 4^1, across from West to East grid numbers, for example, read 8^5,7^2,4^9,4^1,3^1,3^0 etc. I cannot quite see the pattern. And there are series of Grids with the same number 3^1.. Each of the grid lines has a marking for N or E for Long and Lat(fairly easy to understand), it's just the larger number in the middle of each Box that I cannot figure out. Just curious, not a Sim issue. Mike

I am not ready for that! LOL. I'll need LOTS of practice. -

SPOILERS DON'T READ. ChillNG, Yes, that makes sense now. LOL. I ran the mission with Immortal on and did not put in any locations, but I found the SA6's and the SA11. Rotor took two shots at the SA11 and was winchester. I took out three SA6 with my three bombs and took out a forth with a strafing run, but there ended up being another SA6 after that? Lost the navigator. Then ran out of fuel on the return flight and ditched 25 miles from the base by landing in the desert. I'll get it done without immortal and watch my fuel better. Does the mission actually allow you to refuel in flight? Or is it like the break between the mission? (fake refuel) I want to start back at Mission 1 and do the entire thing again, as I have moved up the ladder from Really Really <profanity>ty at this Sim to just Really <profanity>ty at this Sim. Some day I hope to be just <profanity>ty at this Sim. Mike
