I am on mission 9-B, and even though I know the location of the enemy units from watching walk-through videos, when I look at those locations, nothing is there. Only one unit was found after it became active (SA11). After trying a few times, I watched the walk-through again and I wrote down the locations of the units and programmed steer points for each while in Active Pause (how convenient) but when I train the TGP on those locations, nothing is there. So my question is....When do the Enemy units Spawn? After some trigger point? or are they there when you start the mission? Are they always in the same location from the campaign design? When I watch a walk-thought, the pilot uses the HAS to find the targets, switches to TGP and dam , the units are there easy to see even without zooming in on the TGP. What am I doing wrong? (I think those who do the walk-throughs make their videos after flying the mission a few times, just my guess) Thank you, Mike

Sorry to hear this mess, I had some free time this week to fly but I guess not Oh Well. Mike -
FIWOS Mission 8.....driving me nuts. I have flown it several times. I know where the targets are at this point. I flew it with immortal and unlimitted weapons on, as I target a Fire Can radar, it CANNOT be seen until I get within a min distance (did not note the distance but about 4 NM.) then it just appears, even thought I can see the other weapons such as the AAguns at greater distances. SO I lock on, align the maverick, fire, cannot destroy it. Swong around 5 times, fired both Mavericks on it, no dice. Same with the SA 11 site. Does Immortal for the Player also make the enemy Immortal????? Thanks, Mike.

I did not see any frame rate issues with Mission 8, but again, I got shot down LOL. I saw stars. and smoke.... Mike

Just asking, it's not a huge issue. Just curious is this is behavior which is 'normal' or if there is a work around. I run 5 displays with MDFs below main screen. The 4th screen (number 2 in windows) is not used in DCS, I just have TrackIR and VoiceAttack open on it. When I fire up SimAppPro the displays get set correctly and all the items are green. Then from main menu on DCS, not in a running SIM, when I edit the controls and save, the game closes and restarts. This appears to be normal behavior, because you can change more game items from this first menu such as video or audio settings and I understand a restart of the game is needed, this is typical of most games. However, when it restarts, the main screen then goes across all the MDF screens also (and the menus are hard to use as they are scattered across the small MDF displays), so I have to use the "close window" command via the lower icon bar on the 5th screen to force DCS to close. Then I can open SimAppPro and hit "apply" on the bottom MDF item (which is now red), and run DCS normally. Of course if I adjust a control while in the sim (on a mission etc) I can change a control, save the profile and just return to the Sim. It is only when I am not in the SIM just after starting DCS and going to the control settings to edit a switch or what not. Is this a typical experience other have who are running MDF screens??? Mike

sounds about right LOL. I do more or less the same, trying to "keep it real" I got through 7 without any cheats, got a 92, not sure what I missed, did almost run out of fuel, declared emergency to land quicker. I know that if I spent more time with this I would get much better much faster, but it's a once in a while kind of thing that I have time for. I want to make some more custom labels for the various switches as I determine how I want to use them. For example I use the wares eject knob on the Take Off Panel as the switch for the INS, and am going to use the rotary switch for the wing position (F18) for the knob for the MIDS switch. I use the three position Probe Extension Switch for Engine Start 1 or 2. I'd like them to make a switch panel that just has an array of 20 three position toggles that you can assign and label. The "real" position in the plane is not that critical for me, just the feel of a real switch. LOL. Oh well, bed time. Mike -
It works....but not smoothly...it appears that some people have 3d printed a new knob for it that gets rid of the Hat that is on that spot and just makes it a larger knob, that sounds like a great idea for a modification (WinWing should sell that knob, hint hint WinWing....listening) Mike

Yes, similar issues, as in the Campaign you are more under the gun for time and such. I have started taking the time to Bore Sight the Mavericks on the ground first, you have to practice to get to be quick about this as some of the missions are time dependent. From a 'realism' standpoint it does not seem to matter if you Bore Sight at a close object or a far away object, but surely this should have an effect on the alignment in the real world? I was wasting time doing the HMCS align, butI am not sure there is ever a reason to align the HMCS as with mine it's always ok for axis and roll, just off bit not he first setting. I guess if you were using VIS to tag a target this would be more important? Not sure. Seeing the actual targets via the WPN page is tough, you have to be close enough for a lock (7 nm) and come in slow enough to not loose all your time to align. I usually make the big mistake of coming in too low, thus get shot down LOL. Some tutorials on youtube say to aim the plane down toward the target before firing to better align the maverick with the launch site to target path. There are many learning points, and it can get frustrating, but still fun. Mike

Finally got through seven, if you count ejecting after crash landing and not dying as a victory LOL. Got a 60, bad....:) Figured out how to bore sight the Mavericks on the ground and getting fast enough at the startup to do that and the HMCS alignment done as well (although that is not really needed, BoGey Dope always does it) I can not figure out how he is able to put the TGP on the target so quickly. Something funny going on there. Mike -
I also experimented with that one, and the MAN RNG knob is kind of a pain as it's zooming is not that smooth. I was using the slider on the throttle for zooming the TGP and that is much nicer but not proper for SIM. Mike

was first draft so I just use iPhone, quick snap, Photoshop, then had to Try to match color from printer (not easy) and adjust the size to properly scale it. I will do more fiddling with it at some point. I figured I'd take a photo with my real camera and use longer lens to get narrower field of view (iPhone is a wide angle lens). I also use the knob for the jettison select for the INS knob, and other switches but have not labeled them yet. Mike

Can I input MGRS into the F16?

I have added the WinWing setup including ICP, MDF, Takeoff Panel, F16 Orion Stick and Throttle and Skywalker Petals. All great stuff. Work great after learning how to tune everything, but I get USB disconnects randomly, but only BRIEFLY, so I rarely loose control of the plane, just once in a while the ICP display goes off and I have to turn off that USB and turn back on to get the display up and running while in flight. The disconnect of the TrackIR is particularly challenging when you are coming in for a landing LOL. I'm using a high power USB hub with individual switches (upgrade from prior one hoping that would fix it). I found all the USB power settings including the ones hidden inside the Human Interface section under Device Manager and turned off the sleep USB device settings. Turned off the Razer software for the keyboard and mouse options. Tried using a wired mouse instead of the Razer BT mouse. I Disabled the Steam updater (steam on there for other games, not DCS). Did firmware updates on all the Winwing devices. This issue predated my addition of the F16 Orion setup and the Skywalker pedals. So final option, upgrade my computer. I am running an older ASUS Crosshair Formula and Ryzen 5 CPU, that were both bought new in 2020 (I had to replace my first Crosshair Formula (? 9 years old?) that died about 8 months ago, by taking it from my other son's unused PC that I built for him in 2020 clone of the first so no fighting, figured that motherboard had less hours on it and would last). Now waiting on package from my friends at B&H Photo. Ordered last night 10 pm, shipped, arrives tomorrow. Because of their excellent service, I spend too much money with them. New set up will be a Asus Crosshair X607E and Ryzen 9 7950 X3D, I already have a nice Video Card, Asus 4070 Ti and plenty of RAM, and M.2 Drives, and 1200 Watt PS. So let's see if that fixes the issue. Or at least make a more stable running system as this one likes to mess up and need to "automatically repair" itself once a month or so. Not sure if there is an issue with the MB or m.2 SSD, who the hell knows. My mac's are always rock solid. Mike (I spent my vacation weeks painting my Family Room and Foyer, 17 foot ceilings including ceiling paint, primer, two coats, hallway's up and down, and the kitchen, so saved $5000 or more DIY, so screw it, new computer parts)

Hat switch perfect, forward to zoom in, back for zoom out, down to reset. Mike

yes LOL and makes it so much easier Mike

@Nightdare I have the F16 grip for the Orion 2 base. The F16 Joystick button for NWS A/R DISC & MSL STEP Button is also a HAT, so that will work for Zoom, setting it up later to test it out. Working on house this week, painting family room (two story), hall way, and front foyer (Two Story). Mike

I have one of the sliders on the Throttle set as the Zoom slider, this works great, but hand position limits its use unless either in AF, or take hand of throttle. But its very responsive and easy to center back to normal zoom position. I am trying to use the slider on the base of the Joystick. WW Orion F16 Joystick, but that goes back to zero when you let go of it, so if I zoom with it, it goes to super wide angle when I let go. The Range of input is zero to 65000. Is there any way to code it to a range of say 32000 to 65000 so it goes to the normal zoom (no zoom position) when I let go? I am going to mess with the stick on the front side of the stick as a zoom, perhaps that will be better, but the paddle is just perfect in position and feel for Zoom. Oh well. I have gone from "Really Crappy" at this Sim to "Pretty Crappy" working my way up to "Crappy" Mike

Got it. Set Man RNG knob to "slider" and then it works so much better. Mike

Got Man Range working, changed knob to a slider.....works great. Got Ant Elevation working, also a slider RZ axis. Slow learning curve. Mike
