Anyone know where to find some good checklists for the LOMAC a/c? (including the F-15 and A-10)? Red Dog's checklists for the Russian a/c are perfect (game tailored), but I haven't been able to find any for the Am. a/c elsewhere. Heck, if someone has an authentic checklist, that would do...

Pilot error sounds like. Before even reaching a third of the length of that 3,500ft runway, if they realized it, the crew was faced with a terrible decision: Abort and glue the brakes to the wheels and use full TR's and still quite likely train wreck off the end of the runway OR attempt a late rotation, prior to the aircraft having enough performance to sustain flight (especially given its full load), but before running out of real estate. Any performance data, V1, Vr etc is out the window since the runway itself isn't even long enough for a Canadair to utilize. All data and speeds they had were based on runway 22 which was the "only" option. My guess would be that when they realized what was happening, their only option was hoping to "pull" the plane airborne before Vr and getting into the air vs. a certain high-speed over-run. I truly feel for the pilots being faced with such a unimaginable decision, regardless of how it came about. I've taken off from runway 22 in Lexington many times myself and in some ways I can visualize how this unfolded, right from the taxi-out until the realization of a mistake set in and it's disastrous consequences being faced, even before anyone else ever knew. Conditions of day and fatigue may have very well been a key factor. My sympathies for those involved and those who lost loved ones.

You already have a great sig, don't change too much! I like it! Btw, anyone can make their sig "clickable" by adding BBcode as follows: [url = http://www.yourdomainhere.com ] [/url] Add all the above with "your domain and pointing at your image" and you'll have a clickable sig that takes you to the domain you specify. Do not use spaces when entering the code, (I had to in order for the forums not to search for an actual image and try to display it in my example above)...

Ditto! I've been at FL370 several times just hoping time would fly by, so I could be back home and fly on the computer! ROFL!!!:megalol: Poko24, How is that for marketing?! If that airs on commercial TV or spreads acress the internet... Just by something as silly as that, Microsoft will sell a thousand more copies of "X". LD

http://www.gamespot.com/pc/sim/microsoftflightsimulatorx/media.html?tag=flash_video;videos;0 Click on the "Official Movie 2" posted July 31st. Pretty much sums it up for me (wait for the quote at the very end!)... :megalol: :pilotfly:

Not a very good trailer if more market share is what you want! I think the symbology in the trailer sums it up: Crash and burn baby, crash and burn...:music_whistling: LD

:megalol: LOL Cali... SuperKungFu, IRL you'd have a max tire speed too and surely end up with lots of blown rubber. zaelu, Sort of like a V1 cut, but purposely exceeding V1 and not rotating. All-in-all, gotta say... what caught my attention with this post was the nice looking runway. As far as everything else... someone has too much time on their hands!:pilotfly: LD

Regarding my quote of MSFS being lacking in "simulation". That was poorly phrased. What I really meant was flight modelling or flight dynamics. Not all the amazing jazz you can add-on in MSFS and turn it into a terrific product. Aerodynamically speaking, MSFS leaves a lot to be desired from my point of view... LD

LOL! I don't get it...:helpsmilie: Try landing short and stopping before the first centerline painted on the pavement.:pilotfly: Btw, what runway mod are you using? It looks sweet! LD
-
Yup! vasco12r summed it up as well. Great product, great marketing, but lacking in the true sensation of flight. Unfortunately for Lock-On their marketing is the biggest area they are losing consumers in, otherwise great simulation. Still hard to compare to MSFS, but that's on completely different grounds. Lock-On is hands down much more realistic in flight dynamics behavior. It will be interesting to see the sales figures for FighterOPS when the first modules start showing up! I remember those TV-ads for FS2004. Those were sweet! Has to be nice to have the Microsoft label ante up the $$ for those time slots in commercial television. LD
-
LOL!:megalol: Now, that's funny... Working as a professional pilot IRL, MSFS is outstanding as far as its scope and depth. The "simulation" part leaves a lot to be desired however! (Sort of like Windows now that you brought it up!) LD

This is very interesting info! Could you post the source please. LD

Offline and Online formation training
LawnDart replied to zaGURUinzaSKY's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Only in Lock-On, only in Lock-On... Good grief GURU! I know what you went through, but that's off the chart! I don't think we'll see all these features and they'd really only add to the complexity of the problem. It would be nice to have a new editor from scratch. The one item you brought up that I really like is the option of "Tach hold" or "RPM hold" on AI aircraft, as this pertains to real-life formation flying. Having said that though, the ONLY true way to fly formation is in multiplayer and as nice as all these practice tools are (that we have to go to such extreme's to create), nothing... nothing can beat real-time, pilot-to-pilot practice (and as long as everyone's schedule works out, it eliminates all the hassles of Lock-On or limitations there of). Very cool mission though GURU! Hat's off for the initiative and meticulous work. LD -
Offline and Online formation training
LawnDart replied to zaGURUinzaSKY's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
GURU, I haven't done anything single-player for so long, but how do you get the AI airplanes to fly a wedge formation and most importantly, that tight?! LD -
Offline and Online formation training
LawnDart replied to zaGURUinzaSKY's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Very cool Guru! Now do these missions use the AI with its speed hold modulation algorithm inherited from Lock-On or is it done through Phantom or some other way of editing to have them fly so close together and hold speed (power setting)? LD -
you should edit the "NOMERA.TGA" to remove the "001", "002" tail numbers etc. Love the gold coated heat shroud!

Using the "simulated" (developer) settings are usually the most accurate representation of the actual aircraft. Hence, why default sometimes is the best choice...:smilewink: Messing around too much with settings and curves turns the sim into an arcade game. Who would have thought an outside loop was possible within 4,000ft in a F-15C? LOL... :music_whistling: :pilotfly: Just my two cents... LD

VFAT 2006 Preliminary Registration Thread
LawnDart replied to Bublik's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Frazer, Only the "scenes" option affects the clients and loads the same amount of scenery objects for each player/spectator. All other graphic options selected on the server have no impact on "what you see", those are whatever you select on your end to your individual taste (so that your computer can handle it)! I can almost guarantee you that all the dedicated servers used for VFAT will not run any eye candy, since it serves absolutely no purpose to have it on the server itself and thereby allows more horsepower to facilitate clients and their connections instead. I'd suggest the ded servers to use "scenes = medium" as the only "forced graphic option". As far as the mission files and static objects, I'll leave that up to someone else to address later on. There will likely be one "east mod" and one "west mod" with respective mission files as well as potentially additional "mods" and mission files for some of the aerobatic formation teams that people will need to install/uninstall in-between displays during the show days. I'm sure one of the admins can address this in the near future sometime after the registration process is finalized. LD -
Maybe it slipped by (for a few people out there) that there is a newer version? The latest version is a patch for Flaming Cliffs (a.k.a as v1.1) and no longer affiliated with Ubisoft as its publisher. Download FC and then the latest patch (currently 1.12a) to stay up-to-date. The change log is quite long since 1.02, so start with these updates. In the future Black Shark will cont. the new version history, so in order to stay current you'll need more than simply Lock-On + the 1.02 patch! 1.02 is essentially an old game... 1.12a is Lock-On's most current state.
