Virtual Blue Angels BIG Movie - Get it here!!!
LawnDart replied to kato217's topic in Screenshots and Videos
Kato, Don't cave! You know as well as I that it's mainstream that rules and everyone has to live with the choices of its creator. You have nothing to prove by doing this guy a favor, unless you really want to of course. We know it! Regarding file size, it's the wave of the future my friends. Bigger is better (sometimes) and it won't be long before technology catches up to allow these massive downloads to go faster. A project the VTB are working on... :music_whistling: ...will certainly create some discussion about its size for download, but it's a choice, just as it is an option to download or not download for everyone. You gotta play by the rules and if you don't like them, you don't get to play! Very true words that certainly apply for 23rd_SATAN... ;) My two cents... LD -

Certianly don't want to hijack this thread from the Virtual Blues, it's their time in the lime light and well deserved credit for teamwork and flying ability, but to answer your question... Glad you're waiting, keep that up and you are right about one thing... it is BIG!! ;) :) I'll be prepared for all your follow-up questions afterwards too, GA! ;) Lawndart -

Quick question about res, aa, af
LawnDart replied to SuperKungFu's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
SuperKungFu, Forgot to tell ya. When you change the ratio to 1.25 (1280x1024) in the graphics.cfg it only keeps this value until you apply any new video settings in game, then it automatically defaults back to 1.33. It's annyoing and you probably wouldn't notice the difference, but I certainly do since I run Lock-On in widescreen. Also, the FOV is good as it is for your display. Changing the FOV is tricky, since it goes hand in hand with changing the zoom and you end up getting a "fisheye" effect (that also reduces your fps in heavy action or smoke). For a 4:3 screen or similar it's not going to give you any real benefits what-so-ever! LD -
Quick question about res, aa, af
LawnDart replied to SuperKungFu's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
You don't really have to do anything to adjust the aspect ratio, but if you want to have it absolutely correct divide 1280/1024 = 1.25 Most 4:3 ratio screens use res such as 1024/768 = 1.33 (1.33 x 768 = 1024... see how this works?) For widescreen 16:10 or 16:9 (a ratio of 1.6 or 1.77)... a 1.33 ratio simply does not work, cause the image will be stretched way too far. You really won't notice much of a difference setting 1280 x 1024 in game as your resolution and not changing the graphics.cfg to show 1.25 instead of 1.33, but if you really want it to be dead on that's what you need to do! Change the graphics.cfg to read ratio = 1.25! If you run AA on x2 then you won't notice "much" of an increase just for playing, it's when you stop and look at screenshots a higher AA really makes it look a lot better. Anything in motion and as long as you have AA 2x or higher you'll be fine. AF has an even less impact for footage in motion and really only deals with shimmering in the distance. It's not as evident in Lock-On as it is in FS2004, where there's a distinct line in the terrain a few miles away that's blurry and shimmering without AF. Hope that helps. btw, I typically use AA 4x and AF 8x. If my rig was struggling I would reduce the AF first and as a the last item to reduce AA 2x... LD -
Nicely done movie!!! Cool choice in camera for the credits as well looking back at the 3d model of the pilot! LD

Great job GA!!! Liked the taxi shots and afterburner shot in particular! :) Let us know when your site is up! LD

Sorry to bump this again, but is there a way to limit high ping players from joining or auto kicking high ping players from the server? LD
-
No one really addressed the question... For a combat server, a higher ping (i.e. 450) may be more suitable for the masses, but for 12 inches tight formation flying with spectators it's certainly not, which is why... I'm looking for the same thing as Der KAHN! Is there a string that can be used in the config or lua files that limits high ping players from connecting??? LD
-
Sorry to post this again, but is there a way to setup the server to not allow high ping players to connect? A string such as "MaxPing = 200" or similar for example? Thanks! LD
-
Viper, What connection bandwidth is the JaBoG server running on? 100Mbit? Does anyone know of a way to setup the server to not allow high ping players to connect? Is there a string such as "MaxPing = 200" you can use in the config.lua for example? The Virtual Thunderbirds dedicated server specs: AMD XP 2000+ 2048 DDR Ram 10 Mb Full Duplex Windows Server 2003 Tier 1 Connection We also use VNC to configure the server with much of what Viper talked about being the same. We typically leave the server in F11 view with sky only to allow a steady flow of 130 frames per second, all settings low except "scenes" in the graphics options. Connection speed of: 2048/2048 server side and 128/128 client side. Has anyone else had luck with other settings? This has worked out great for us thus far... Forced server settings, Delete the following or parts of the following to not force server settings to each client. btw, this does not include graphic options you guys were talking about. The only forced video option from the server is "scenes" as Viper described, while everything else is left up to the client to configure his own system for optimal performance.

need help with joystick settings..
LawnDart replied to xbgambler's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
It doesn't matter what it says before you click change. Go through all the axis' and let LOMAC detect your joysticks axis' for Y, X Z and throttle. Rotator2 does not imply the twist axis of a joystick... on some it may be on the Cougar for example it's one of the rotary switches on the throttle handle. Point is, rotator2 is just a name that could correspond to any axis depending on the joystick you use. So, follow the steps above in the image and assign each axis you intend to use in LOMAC regardless of its name in the options menu. LD -
Where can I get Glowing Amraams Editing Programs.
LawnDart replied to Zahael's topic in Screenshots and Videos
Lot of answers can be found here: http://forums.ubi.com/groupee/forums/a/frm/f/829104012 Capture with fraps: www.fraps.com (Basically, WYSIWYG tool, but be sure to not run anything else aside from fraps and Lock On while recording). Editing is best done in Vegas: http://www.sonymediasoftware.com/products/vegasfamily.asp It's a powerful tool that you can easily learn on a bsic level, but still come back to even as a pro. It's more complex than Windows Movie Maker, but you'll certainly enjoy the benefits when in time, you master them. I'm sure you could find a better bargain on Vegas 5 (6 being the newest version) if you search online. Just a thought... LD -

1680x1050 widescreen and Lock-On?
LawnDart replied to LawnDart's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Just tried it out with 1680 x 1050 on a WS and it looks awesome! Thanks for all the tips with changing the aspect ratio to 1.6 etc in the graphics.cfg and the view angle for FOV in the view.lua. Next step is a projector... LD -
I think the bottom line is that if you plan on running Vista, you definitely want to stock up on RAM! Lock-On will run better with 2 gigs, but the increase is not nearly as big as the 512K to 1 gig. Overall you can't go wrong upgrading, especially considering Windows development... LD

For all that play lockon in widescreen format
LawnDart replied to Nate Dogg's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
In addition to all the above (aspect ratio 1.6, wider view angle max etc), how do you set it up to match the "default zoom" of a 4:3 screen when using WS? -
How to remove ext camera restrictions?
LawnDart replied to LawnDart's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Already tried the view.cfg without any change. The server.lua file is the only file that makes any difference in changing the CameraTerrainRestriction = false, but neither affect recorded tracks. They allow for free camera movement in current missions and new tracks made after the server.lua edit is done, but not old tracks. Any other ideas? -

LOTU doesn't release the terrain restriction. If anyone knows how to do this let me know! -
How to remove ext camera restrictions?
LawnDart replied to LawnDart's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Ahh... thanks! I remember seeing this. Never used it, but I'll check it out. LD -
Could someone refresh my memory on how to remove the "camera terrain restriction" and angle allowed to use F11 and F2 views? I'm looking to be able to set the camera all the way down to ground level (underneath taxing airplanes etc)? [EDIT:] I found the restriction in the server.lua file that enables free camera movement; however, when trying to use it with tracks already recorded it still has the terrain restriction. How can I remove the terrain restriction in playback of tracks?

Makes sense. I sometimes forget I capture mostly friendly flying with only 6 planes in action...:)
-
GA, I'm surprised your rig isn't good enough for HD rendering with the settings you mentioned above. I typically capture with 4x AA and 8x AF in Full Screen mode sometimes as low as 9 fps. As long as I compromise and speed adjust up to a decent frame rate it still comes out looking sweet! I just rendered a clip today that was captured at <10 fps and after adjusted and rendered in pretty much the same settings you use (except 1280x720 and 3M bitrate) it came out silky smooth. SuperKungFu, Just like GA said, I find keying to be the easiest, most efficient and best looking way to add "jiggle" or "shakycam". You can make it as shaky as you want or subtle, even make it look like a "steadycam" on a gimbal system outside a spotplane. Best part, it's all done post-capture, so you don't have to worry about it in Lock-On at all. Just follow the tip GA gave you to use pan/crop, zoom in a little and use key frames. You can also use keying with any video effect, crop, zoom and easily create professional looking results (albeit sometimes time consuming). LD

1680x1050 widescreen and Lock-On?
LawnDart replied to LawnDart's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
So, you actually get a larger field of view in Lock-On with a widescreen display (without stretching the picture)!!! That's awesome... The deal I found on the 1680x1050 ViewSonic screen was in the high $200's brand new. LD
