For all that play lockon in widescreen format
LawnDart replied to Nate Dogg's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Been searching through every widescreen thread I could find here and still no answer whether there is a work around to actually "gain back" the vertical view that gets snipped off when you use a widescreen in LOFC? Here are two comparison shots to illustrate exactly what a widescreen does for me and what it doesn't do for me (widen the view)!!! Any suggestions or word from ED that they will in fact make LOBS widescreen friendly!? This is on my widescreen monitor (with an aspect ratio of 1.6); top and bottom cropped off... you'd expect a widescreen to give you more, not less right?! This is on my other monitor (close to a 4:3 aspect ratio, although set at 1.25, instead of 1.33); notice the difference?!?!?! P.S. Someone please sticky this thread already in the Tech forum maybe! -
Come back, see us in the year twenty-twenty five... :music_whistling:

"Thunder over the Boardwalk" Lockon Style
LawnDart replied to STRIKER's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Aeroscout, no worries... no harm done what-so-ever. I'm not sure what people were referring to?! Smoke on took so long because we were training, shooting, capturing and editing all at once and then did it all over again. The project actually got canned at on point and started back up again (sort of). If we were to do a sequel (and I'm not suggesting we are) it wouldn't take as long to produce the same length of movie since we can fly the show backwards and forwards live now and get a good majority of the entire show in just one shooting;however, we're not doing that. We have some other plans for the latter part of '07... Being able to do the entire demo live with real comms and real procedures makes our future projects appear easy, since the flying is in fact what's hard about it. Editing, shooting is a lot easier when you can get the shots on the first or second attempt with so many planes working together in both timing synchronization runs and formations. Cheerios! -
Ruggbutt, The Akers-Barnes pit consists of two separate pieces when put together, but appear as one tight fit. So, essentially the back half is your chair... :smilewink:

"Thunder over the Boardwalk" Lockon Style
LawnDart replied to STRIKER's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
That's a great video and of course I've seen it! In fact a few of the pilots from that year are good friends with some of our team members. One of them is "Wilbur", seen flying through the skyline in Chicago in the video! ;) -
There is a script for camera shake or camera explosion proximity. Can't remember where to find it right now, but it's called "Vegas Quake".

Just a few more shots from the other night. Rollout from the Inverted Pass Whispering: "Sneak Pass" Knfie Edge Pass as seen from the crowd on the beach I-to-I Roll from the folks by the hammocks between the palm trees Calypso (after the aggressive setup required by terrain) "Stand tall for America's Ambassadors in Blue" "Low and Slow, demonstrating the remarkable slow speed handling of the F-16" Hi-Lo Hit D360 Delta Roll from inside No. 6. Striker pass the mustard back please!!! Reflection Pass, possibly the toughest maneuver for this show site... A beautiful view of the 6 Thunderbird jets! -
triplehead done in software called "softTH"
LawnDart replied to G3's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Thanks for the info on SoftTH! Too bad LOMAC doesn't give you the option for a "true" panoramic view though! (Same as with widescreens, it only gives you a marginal addition in horizontal FOV, while cropping A LOT off the top and bottom of the view). For this reason, you're just as well off buying a large LCD or projector, since essentially three screens is doing the same thing. Note how big the HUD is in the video link and compare to your normal display. You don't gain anything in horizontal FOV with TripleHead, it only appears you do! Now for other games such as FSX and FS2004 you actually widen your horizontal FOV substancially, but with LOMAC... sadly no! Still cool, just wish ED would build in support for widescreens and multiple monitors so it doesn't project the view across the monitors, but actually widens the FOV with more screens. -
New Fraps 2.8.2 could possibly help? If you have the full version, you should be able to just log in and download any new update @ www.fraps.com "AA" off helps as mentioned by Glowing Amraam, although for my last movie I had all the bells and whistles turned on, but did what Ruggbutt said and lowered the playback speed. Then while editing I'd speed it up by a factor that would give me ~30 FPS based on the capture framerate (since I would render at 30 FPS in the end anyways).

Stick in center vs right-side stick
LawnDart replied to Black_Hawk's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
It moves around about the lenght of half a fingernail at the seen from the top, so it really isn't much at all and only to give the pilot a bit of tactile feedback of where he's moving the stick. -

WOw check this out on the Iranian Tomcats
LawnDart replied to Pilotasso's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Viper (Corsair), I'm not trying to tear you apart here bud, but you can PhotoShop almost anything including heat blur, old photos and more. It's all just pixels and "1's and 0's". Ever see them transform a chubby lady into a Supermodel? Yes, it can be done and I've seen a tutorial of it in PhotoShop of how it's done. It's way easier than you think! Heat exhaust... piece of cake in comparison! I have no idea whether the photo is real or not, and honestly, it doesn't make any difference to me. I'm sure the Russians have had their hands on a Tomcat at some point, but your arguments for authenticity are about as water tight as Titanic. ;) Cheers! -

Corsair, Viper or "Tailhook" (as we know him) sure likes his Tomcat and with lots of pun intended :smilewink: ... "The entire USAF's inventory is based on Tomcat technology"! ... Oh, wait... that was a Navy bird. Doh! LMAO! -
Running a 20.1" ViewSonic LCD as primary display with extended desktop to 19" ViewSonics. Will be upgrading to a 40-70" screen sometime next year maybe... Either LCD (the smaller end OR projector for the full 70")! Gave up on CRTs a long time ago. Flat Panels save space and nowadays are brigther, have faster response time and good black levels with little screen glare (even in sunlight), so to me there's no reason at all anymore to run games on CRTs (unless you already have a good CRT at hand... in other words, I wouldn't buy one). If your price range is in the $200-400s, I'd recommend any 20.1" LCD or bigger with response times of less than 8ms and compare the picture side-by-side in stores for the one you like. If you can afford more, go bigger, but make sure the resolution can support native HD for bigger Plasmas and LCDs (720p, 1080p compared to the actual screen res... otherwise upscaling or downscaling and/or interlacing will take place and it won't look nearly as good with a DVI-HDMI (computer input)). The other route is projector and you won't regret it, but again go with as many lumens and high res as you can if you plan on placing the projector further away from the screen than 10-12'. These options are obviously over the thousand dollar hump, but just in case... That's my two cents... LCD baby... and widescreen 20.1" 1680x1050 at least!

Assuming you're using Foxy to program your keystrokes and its key test feature to test each button's response once the tmj and tmm files are programmed and downloaded to the Cougar. Make sure, you go to CCP (Cougar Control Panel) under the HOTAS Cougar start menu and check the "Button & Axis emulation ON/OFF" to "Green (ON)". Without this the Kitty (Coug) is only a direct input joystick outside of Foxy and the Kitty tools. The only buttons DX'ed with emulation selected On would be the ones specified in the Foxy profile as DX buttons, but if emulation is Off all buttons are DX'ed (direct input). You should also setup the startup options under the startup tab in CCP to have emulation On/Off be default and I'd strongly recommend saving a manual calibration (auto cal is not good, for reasons I won't get into right now). Hope this helps! :)

Same issue here. Been turning the shadows down a notch or for movie making plugging in Forceware drivers 84.21 (last set that worked great for me) with the 7800. I'll second what's been said in this thread about the shadow problem people have mentioned for the greater part of this year or since the "new interface" Forceware drivers (9x.xx).

Look up pan/crop frames and use "keyframes" to tell Vegas when to zoom and how fast. For a simple zoom in, you set two keyframes up (one far out and one grossly zoomed into the text) you want and then the keyframes determine when on the timeline you want the zoom to begin and end within the clip. The time between the two "keyframes" determine the quickness based on the length of the clip your using the pan/crop with.

MOVIE RELEASE: Smoke On - by the Virtual Thunderbirds
LawnDart replied to LawnDart's topic in Screenshots and Videos
Maybe I wasn't clear enough the first time, but there is no seamless version available at all. No matter which site you visit, there will be 4 parts of the movie either in a zip or downloadable separately. I'm not sure how many sites have converted the movie into different formats or streaming, but the original is WMV HD 1280 x 720. -

LawnDart replied to LawnDart's topic in Screenshots and Videos
You won't be able to join the parts "seamlessly", because the editing tracks were split up and re-edited into parts. I have a seamless version on my drive with all the audio-visuals overlapping and no cuts what-so-ever, but it's a monster to render and won't be seeing daylight anytime soon (if at all). As far as downloading it... Patricks aviation offers each part separately in 300 meg chunks. That shouldn't be too bad for anyone with a decent connection to grab. -
