  1. I'm using the startech PEXUSB3S44V with 4 dedicated USB3 ports, camera is mounted right side up. I dont think its just my setup, it seems like a widespread issue, the poll on the oculus forums suggests a lot of people having trouble: https://forums.oculus.com/community/discussion/49320/how-is-your-tracking-since-1-11-patch/p1
  2. No my setup is just how they recommend it, I am using 3 sensors however, wallmounted for roomscale. I tried unplugging 1 but it didnt seem to make a difference.
  3. Getting major issues with the oculus 1.11 patch, in non DCS titles I float up into the air after playing for a while. In DCS, this means my view resets itself to just above the cockpit level, then I have to press the recenter view key to fix it. Unfortunately this happens all the time in the heat of battle and can really screw you over... This also means that when you recenter the view to fix it, you've now reentered to a incorrect position and eventually it will snap back again and you'll have to recenter it again. I cant wait for oculus to get their sensors shit together (not likely). If someone told me today that with the Vive I would have better visual clarity than the rift and it was just as comfortable I Would switch platforms in a heartbeat. The Vives tracking is just leaps and bounds better, and the sensors dont require USB cables all over your room. The only downside I see to the Vive at the moment is that its less refined and has worse DCS compatability (but that worse comparability / performance / feature gap seems to be closing smaller with every release). I stuck it out with Oculus because they were first with the idea, thought they deserved the money and DCS supported Oculus better at the start. Ever since facebook bought them I'm rethinking my position. Oculus' forums and reddit are rife with people complaining about tracking issues with the latest update, but is there an official post from Oculus admitting they realize seemingly half or more of their users have these issues with roomscale / standing setups? No. They wont admit anything, they keep quiet in a terrible attempt to avoid damaging their brand. If they make a post that says "Our tracking is currently shit, heres what were doing to fix it" all the media outlets will run a article on even Oculus says their tracking sucks.
  4. Good to know! I just realized you can simply right-click on Virtual Desktop in steam, get the CD Key and then paste it into oculus home. No need to run steam, no need to re-buy the app in oculus home.
  5. Has anyone tried VD via oculus store instead of steam to see if its any different?
  6. Yes I am aware mission options can override local settings, I'm not quite sure why tooltips are a mission option however, as it seems to come down to user preference with no impact on other players in mutliplayer. That said, I do not believe the "force off" or "not enforced" setting for tooltips in mission options works. Someone posted having to manually edit the mission file, deleting the options file and then going in and resaving the mission file with tooltips turned off in their local settings menu in addition to having the tooltips forced off in the mission editor. Its a bit immersion breaking in VR to have tooltips once you already know where all the switches are, it has been helped by this fix but not eliminated.
  7. To be clear did the fix correct: -The tool tips text box size (being too big) -The tool tips being forced on in multiplayer missions even when you have it set to off Or both?
  8. Is SSA stable enough to switch from the old SimShaker at this point? I was holding off on switching before because if I fly a 3-5 hour long mission I dont want any crashes of either DCS or the SSA software during it.
  9. I think I will try the Kaby Lake approach first as well, the CPU is ~4 years old now. Worst case I'll be eating ramen for months after shelling out for a 1080ti down the road.
  10. Thanks for the tip! Its really hard to see my monitor from my simpit, so hopefully it works better in the future.
  11. Virtual desktop does not play nice with DCS it seems. I can alt tab once or twice but if I keep doing it then I get stuck in DCS and cant alt tab out of it. Finally, upon closing DCS virtual desktop needs to be restarted because its not working. Its really a shame because this is the only way we can "look at another monitor" without taking off the headset (to see maps, charts, flight plans, checklists, etc). I'm also starting to wonder if having virtual desktop running is eating a few FPS from DCS.
  12. Anyone gone from a 980ti to 1080 and noticed a improvement? I'm getting below 45 FPS with the VR preset settings (pixel density 2.0-2.5) with a 980ti and 4770k @ 4.5ghz. I'd like to be able to get 90 FPS sometimes and 45 all the time without lowering my pixel density below 2.0, anyone done this upgrade and know?
  13. It was over $200 delivered from that shop in Ukraine. I have done more research and read the reviews people have posted on different online stores, lots of people seem to have failures of the device both early on and after one year, and require warranty support or have to purchase a new one. For spending this much money to have it shipped here, with no option to send it back should it break it seems like a unwise investment. There was also a couple complaints that the motors that vibrate were fairly weak.
  14. Is it possible to order the device from the US using their online store?
  15. So someone figured out how to make software for DCS World that the SimVibe guys said was too much trouble? It would be nice if we could get this software to work with our buttkickers and other similar LFE shaker devices, are there any prospects for this Andre, or are you teamed up exclusively with the guys who make this vibration pad? A lot of us already own vibration devices that are hooked up to our simpits, but the vibrations use audio only and are lackluster. I would pay for the software if you added support to output an audio signal instead of USB. This seems like it could quickly become an expensive paperweight if you purchase it + the massage device and it is never updated to include full functionality for one of the most popular planes like the A-10C, new planes as they come out such as the F/A-18, or when an ED patch breaks the functionality and the software itself is not patched in turn because the developer has moved on. Not to mention draping the massage device over a nicely built simpit would throw off the look; kind of out of place, it would be a lot of work to disassemble it and integrate it into my existing chair and then worry about the aforementioned software going out of date.
  16. I don't know why people say Direct is borked? All the applications I have tried that included a direct 2 rift exe have worked very well. You get better performance direct by far. It seems to be the developers that dont have the time / dont understand how to code the direct mode properly in order to intergrate it with their existing application. Most of the demo's that work flawlessly have been coded for the rift from the ground up. As for extended- 120hz+ LCD's have been out for years now, I think I've been using a 120hz LCD for 4 years and just this year I got a 144hz one. So, for those running extended mode and having trouble its not necessary to have a CRT from the stone age to get 75hz+ across all displays, you can simply just use an LCD that goes past 60hz.
  17. You may need to send it in to Thrustmaster for repair if using another computer doesnt work. I know you tried one (other) old computer, but I would see if you can try a 3rd or 4th computer. There are people here who tried 3 computes in their house and NONE worked, then they brought it into work or tried a freinds computer and it worked fine. Its very picky about which computers it works on when its stuck in this mode and no one can seem to come up with a specific set of technical specifications that it works 100% of the time on.
  18. See if you can get ahold of more computers to try it on. I ended up borrowing a old laptop with USB 2.0 ports from a friend that had an older version of windows on it and that worked for me.
  19. We did appreciate them, time and time again we have been buying the Track IR versions even though we probably didn't need to (as someone mentioned they are still using TrackIR 3 just fine). The problem is with all that revenue we sent, they never improved the product usability and they never showed an indication that they were making advances with the technology other than increasing the resolution and field of view (as the main points if I can remember). Items which simply come with them purchasing and slapping in better sensors I'd hazard to guess. If you're at work and you complete some huge project that's great for everyone and nets you a big raise, but then just coast for the next few years doing the bare minimum to stay employed how would your co-workers view you? Heck, how long have we been asking for a better designed TrackClip PRO? They just this year have finally made the plastic slightly stronger. It still feels fragile, maybe a bit less so; the old track clip reminds me of companies who design a part to fail after a certain period of time so you will have to buy a new one. Guess how much it costs to order a piece of plastic and 3 LED's with a USB cord attached? Its nearly $45-50 after they overcharge you on the shipping. How long have we been asking for wireless? How hard is that? If we can make our own trackclip into a wireless version with no EE degree, how hard would it be for them to release one that was designed that way from the start, which in theory would be lighter weight and superior with no battery packs hanging off or velcroed to our headphones. The Oculus is here now, several of us are using them. Its here and just as real as the beta versions of DCS World that we download before the official release. Thank you NaturalPoint for your hard work a long time ago, but now is the time to reinvent or step aside, because we finally have another option and boy are we sure looking forward to it.
  20. AMEN. Anyone who has used the Oculus Rift for head tracking has seen first hand how inferior Track IR is. Having used Track IR since its inception, and having explored NaturalPoints website to see their professional line of high resolution motion capture solutions, it bewilders the mind as to why they haven't developed an improvement in this arena. Oh wait, no it doesn't, they have a monopoly and they dont have to improve upon something that isnt broken (read: hasnt stopped generating them income in the consumer space). The technology is there for them to bring an affordable headtracking camera solution (that does not require the user to wear anything) and would have a greater field of view to boot; you know, something that would actually command the $150 price tag. This was a frustration for me which began around TrackIR 4, reinforced itself when the Kinect came out and is finally subsiding now that the Rift is so close to release. Rest easy guys, the Rift is the solution to Track IR's shortcomings. While it will undoubtedly include many shortcomings of its own, it is far more likely to be frequently firmware patched and refreshed to improve usability and provide a overall more enjoyable simming experience. Until then may we begrudgingly fumble with and be ultra careful with handling our track clip pro's, made of sugar glass.
  21. There has been a large influx of people with $$$ to burn buying up the warthog and creating a shortage (at least at the $430 price point it was previously at) due to the upcoming space simulators Elite Dangerous and Star Citizen. Currently they are fairly arcadey feeling and not very heavy on the simulator side, so there are a lot of new Warthog owners out there that don't really fully appreciate the stick and just had $500 to blow on the best joystick they could find. ED is nice enough to sell us the highly detailed DCS modules for $30-50 a pop, but the ships in Star Citizen go for $45-300+. There are people that have spent $10,000+ on space ships at this point, so a $500 joystick is a drop in the bucket!
  22. My taxi + landing lights (that get damaged if you dont retract them) can only be retracted / turned off by using the switch in the cockpit with the mouse. The keybind will extend them fine, but the keybind to put them away does not work.
  23. I was able to overclock my processor further with HT disabled, and thus I now have more FPS in DCS
  24. Try plugging in the auxiliary optional power supply (for "USB" power) into the sync cable box and see if it remedies any shaking.
  25. What are the steps you have to take to get this working with the 4.0.2 sdk? Are cockpit buttons only clickable when the rift is set to the primary display? I hate using it as a primary display as its impossible to see your desktop / menus in the game.
