  1. Yeah anyone know if steam vr reprojection is up to snuff with asw yet? I've had it off for ages because it was garbage in DCS. Formation flying with the guy next to you ghosting like crazy and the frame of your aircraft / grab handels looking like jigglin jello
  2. Thanks for the detailed reply IronMike!
  3. Saw this new enhancement today which peaked some questions because I have trouble inputting fine amounts of trim. How does trim work exactly? Is it possible to "click" the trim button to increment single units of trim? One problem I have with the warthog trim switch is its a little mushy, I cant tell how much trim I am inputting. I'm wondering if I tap the switch for less than X second(s), is the F14 programmed to add a single unit of trim vs holding it down, will it detect the continuous press trim as another type of trim event? For example, if I press the trim switch for .45 seconds I am inputting more trim than pressing it for .25 seconds than for .15 seconds? I guess ideally I'd be able to click it for units of trim and it would be nice to be able to know the threshold.
  4. Hoping someone can clarify the spring options available since the manual is slightly confusing. My goal is to get the safest stiffest spring setting possible. A couple assumptions: With the stick comes two packages of 2 springs (#5 + #4). Two #6 springs are installed by default in position 1 The manual (attached) says "It is not recommended to combine the default spring and the number 3 spring, or use in pairs". First there is no number 3 spring right? Confusing... Then it says "or use in pairs". What? It specifically says to throw the #6 spring and #4 spring on there for using the extension + z-axis at the same time. I'm not using the z-axis, just the extension, but I'd personally love to throw the #6 spring in the top position and the #5 spring in the lower position at the same time, but not if its going to self destruct on me. It looks really beefy so I'm having a hard time wondering why I shouldn't make this thing as stiff as my Virpil T-50 base.
  5. Hey Virus, do you mind expanding on that? I did the same thing I did with my warthog which is set the throttle curves in DCS on a plane by plane basis to match the AB detent. Is there a better way?
  6. It makes sense right, just from a business perspective. They spent $$$ on R&D for a HOTAS combo and want to recoup their investment. We begged them to sell the throttle separately, something they did not want to do because it wasn't factored into their original model and they listed it at a fairly high price without a discount. This persuades people into buying the combo or spending a bit more on the throttle than its "worth" in order to help them cover their costs and make the profits they intended to. Now you're asking them to not only further take away from whatever their goals were when they set out on this venture, to spend man hours on reboxing products or whatever else that involves in their company... I can see why they are saying no thanks for now. This is their first foray into the consumer combat flight sim market - give them some slack, lets see how their products stack up. It may be well worth "investing" in this company now if they drive even more innovation in the flight sim peripheral space. It was just yesterday when all we had was the TM warthog, now we have options and its great.
  7. How do you swap today? I assume this would replace your warthog throttle completely unless you're a die-hard a10 driver. If you swap foxxmounts your best quick change bet is going to be the monstertech mounting plate on a foxxmount... Or copy their design and make one since it will probably be $50+ usd after shipping depending on where you're at. I would not worry about the weight at all. The warthog has heavy weighted plates inside to weigh it down. This does not. It's just physically a lot bigger. Monstertech let us know they are at least 6+ weeks out from a production mount, they are in the prototyping stage today. Meanwhile, if you want the winwing throttle now, order it with the deskmount or you can easily slap some heavy duty Velcro on the bottom and Velcro it to a warthog throttle mount (the base dimensions are similar). It will be plenty sturdy for a temporary solution.

Yeah I hear you, I don't run target either (hence why I don't want to have to run simapppro before I launch DCS). I was hoping all the button positions would be treated as individual DX inputs, which it sounds like they are. Hearing that the app tries to start with windows and phones home is a non-starter for me. Thanks!

streakeagle, do all the buttons and switches map in DCS without using the software / messing with lua files? For example on the thrustmaster warthog throttle, a lot of button positions are not recognized (especially 3 way switches) unless you used target or did a lot of lua editing.
  10. There are several reviews on YouTube from streamers who have received the hotas, but they all are careful to state that it's not a review, as they are demoing a preview build of the hardware. They proceed to rattle off a handful of issues (for example, unstable recce switch) they found that should be fixed by consumer release. However, I don't see any updated videos showing the consumer final version, like some previews mentioned would come before release. This is a little concerning that one would receive the exact same product they did a "not a review" review of, with either a v2.0 coming soon or just left to deal with some of the same issues. What is the current situation?
  11. Can this be mounted onto the throttle box for those of us who do not use the desk mounts?
  12. Seems like it would be difficult to get it mounted in close between the legs, if you cant use a decent size extension (~15-20cm?) to have it mounted below your seat with the extension passing through the seat cut out. I just cant see being able to fit this box inside the seat cut out area unless you built a seat with this in mind.
  13. You still lean back don't you? I imagine you primarily lean forward when actively engaging a target or doing something that requires concentration. The jetseat will give you more detailed feedback. The buttkicker will shake harder but be muddied and not as useful as a instrument, more like an effect.
  14. When I put an extension on a vkb base and tightened up the tension to compensate, the stick didn't have much centering force and was too easy to move. Just resting my hand on it wrong could cause unintended inputs. On contrast, the virpil t50 base with the heavy springs keep the wathog grip on a extension very well centered and it feels more realistic to me.
  15. No issues for 5 years here. Almost all spent in stable build, because like you said, not much time for bug hunting.
  16. It would be nice to let people who typically RIO know how they will be impacted if their pilot lands on the carrier. I have a buddy that is not interested in piloting a carrier based aircraft, but frequently RIO's. I suggested he didn't purchase it because it would be a waste, but if it ends up negatively impacting him and he has to purchase it later (after the sale has expired), that would suck.
  17. Thats not an exclusive list of games that have it, its only the ones they have tested. The game just has to meet the criteria (DX11, forward rendered)
  18. Thank you for your hard work F4l0, the sim would not be the same without your coding skills. It adds so much realism to feel every bump in the runway and that's before you even get off the ground!
  19. This product has gotten so popular over the years, why hasn't ED made this data exportable to make any effect possible and easy to code into shaker applications? It boggles the mind.
  20. Looks like the low latency mode is only for the 2D setting and nothing has changed with the VR pre rendered frames setting?
  21. I'm not an expert but I think when you have smoothing enabled it costs you a smidge of performance because its constantly generating the fake frames, then a frame gets "applied" if it detects you missed an actual frame.
  22. I dont get those issues with motion smoothing turned off, steams smoothing isn't as good as oculus. If you need smoothing turned on its because you've jacked up the graphical options so high your computer is drowning and your FPS isn't sustainable. Like was said, steams smoothing can make obvious bends in the canopy, duplicate buildings. Just need to limit the graphical eye candy: 1.0pd in dcs (never change) start at 100% resolution in steam and slowly increase until you cant maintain 45fps minimum. I only run 125% so I can enable 2x msaa to avoid shimmers that seem to really impact carrier landings. The big benefit of the index or reverb is that the native res is so high you dont *need* to jack up the super sampling super high to have readable text.
  23. Can you convert this to stable release by using the same commands the client has to switch between stable / open beta?
  24. That's pretty normal though, a manufacture isn't going to refund someone for a purchase through a 3rd party, outside of what, vehicle sales and the lemon law? It seems like a gesture of goodwill for them to offer you a almost full refund in the first place. That said, they are showing a major lack of support in getting you a replacement headset that actually works. IMO, they should be sending you a replacement headset and continue doing so until you receive one that works. This is a direct result of being a consumer buying a enterprise device with growing pains. Most companies who primarily service commercial, industrial, enterprise give piss poor support to individuals because individuals don't make them money. I bet if you did a lot of sales with HP they would have someone physically at your doorstep with a new device so you could test it with the rep there and show them any problems.
  25. Are you using Medium visibility range because extreme kills your FPS? Do you play multiplayer? I've always kept mine on the highest setting and sacrificed other things (like shadow / water detail) because I dont want to miss anything that someone else can see.
