to be honest I would upgrade anyway if you are serious about this sim, as it performs better too!

I always forget to change it to "maneuver" and pretty much leave it on no flaps after takeoff (sometimes I dont even use flaps for take off! O_O) What am I missing, is there a big difference? When should one be using "maneuver"? The name suggests you would use it anytime you are not flying to and from your point of contact aka whenever you're not just cruising around.

HEY YOU GUYS!!! LOOK AT WHAT'S IN STOCK!!

I signed up but the coupon was only for 10% off... I'm going to hold out for a bit hoping these show up on amazon for less than $200-10% -
thats simply not true coolts, the amount of tearing you will see varies depending on video card, drivers and display. Most modern video cards and displays will have minimal to no tearing, but to know for sure you simply just have to try it on your setup. You get a large performance gain turnign vsync off so I would keep it off unless you happen to be getting a lot of tearing. Personally with a Nvidia GTX480 and Dell2408WFP monitor I see a small wrinkle in the image (not a large tear) maybe once every few minutes. It certainly doesnt bother me at all and its over in a split second. You should always strive to get more than 60FPS if you can IMO. I get about 50 now but it is beta. I would strive to get your PC to pump out as much as possible (I like to aim for 70-100 FPS) so that when the SHTF and explosions are going on left and right your FPS doesnt drop below 30.

what does notepad modify on the file? Ive used notepad to edit code for years and years in many languages and the only thing it alters is what you type in, unless you saved it as some other file extension and / or found another way to modify the file.

Thrustmaster HOTAS Cougar for DCS A-10C
Vullcan replied to SAAFDirtyHarry's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
You can post attachments (zip files) here you know? Up to 9mb in size. Press the paperclip button in the reply box "advanced mode". Please post the profile :) -
It should be so hard to push... you don't want to accidentally discharge that thing while flying over an elementary school do you!? I love it because it feels realistic. Sounds like someone needs one of those springy hand & finger muscle builders.

Going to wait and see how the new saiteks feel before springing for simped. Saiteks should be $150-$200 by the time they hit amazon in a couple weeks, and if they live up to the build quality of their father, the Saitek ProFlight (who many people have been slamming their feet on for 2+ years now without any change in response) then we can expect a great combat pedal for half the price of Simped. (US based here so 300 euros + shipping is quite a bit for rudder pedals).

Green lights of TM Warthog Throttle
Vullcan replied to STP Dragon's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I like how you think Midwest, but I would encourage you to just buy it now unless you are that strapped for cash after that warthog purchase. A lot of us are flying now in beta 4 and although the developer mentioned he wasnt happy with a few things in beta 4, thats like me saying I'm not happy with how the 5 programmable lights arnt working on my Warthog throttle yet- a moot point when you consider how awesome everything that does work is. Basically you've already invested $400+, just buy it already! ;) -
Someone explain to this man how beta software works.

TM Warthog removeable metal plate (throttle)
Vullcan replied to Migo's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
To answer your question about the throttle, the existing screws will fit but since they are designed with that extra spacer / weight plate in mind, you will be threading them deeper into the screw holes and it will take a bit of elbow grease to get them in. I would reccomend getting new screws that are just a few millimeters shorter so you do not have to over tighten the screws, the last thing you want is to strip the screw holes on that baby. I actually tack welded screws coming out of the bottom of my warthogs weight plate so I could set it ontop of the throttle mount plate which has holes for the screws to go through, and then tighten it down with wing nuts on the bottom of that plate. It holds it securly to my chair and allows for removal just by un twisting the wing nuts. -
Games have to be built with track IR in mind, so when ED made the 64 bit .exe they didnt build in track IR support since Naturalpoint didnt have a 64bit driver. Now that Naturalpoint has a 64 bit driver we have to wait on ED to add support to their 64 bit .exe I'm sure they are working on it ASAP

I mapped my left and right rudder pedals to left and right wheel brakes, and verified that in the axis setup the sliders were moving all the way to 100% input when I pressed the pedal to the floor. In game however, my plane is not stopping on the runway and pushing the brake pedal has little effect on which way the plane will taxi (I assume it should have a larger effect, akin to moving the rudder in nose wheel steering mode?). If I press W on the keyboard the plane nose lurches down and its obvious wheelbrakes are being applied. Any idea what gives? Using the saitek pro flight rudders btw

rotary wheel assignment on TM warthog
Vullcan replied to KKR75's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I would recommend doing it just in case during a firmware upgrade but for daily use that would be terrible design on thrustmasters part to assume you had to have it plugged directly into the computer. With my setup and im sure many others, the computer is slightly farther away from the "cockpit" than the stock USB cords allow. I feel better using a QUALITY name brand powered USB hub than getting some USB extension cables. -
It really depends on your computer, components, and installation. I didn’t think there would be any difference going from 64bit to 32bit, but when I installed the trackIR software and booted into 32 after using 64 for weeks I immediately noticed a discernable difference in smoothness. Its not game breaking for me but I would rather play in 64 bit mode any day of the week.
-
What should happen when you step down on the rudder pedals (as if they were brake pedals)? I hooked up the saitek pro flight pedals and am worried the default axis mapping is not correct. It seems to do the same thing pressing down on the pedal as moving the pedals does (control the rudder).

Yeah it wouldnt work with beta 3 anymore than version 4 /w 64 bit support would but at least we now have support in version 5 which is leaps and bounds better than version 4!

5.1 beta 02 (Posted December 21, 2010) Changes Added support for 64-bit TrackIR Enhanced games Fixed jitter issue for some TrackIR 5 devices Fixed netKar PRO loading incorrect profile

Problem with Warthog Throttle
Vullcan replied to Jg2001_Rasputin's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Yes of course (I update firmware all the time). Upon plugging my stick in for the first time I first started the thrustmaster utility to verify my firmware was indeed out of date, and it was. Then holding my breath (because people mentioned the firmware update process bricking their throttle!) I updated the joystick and thottle and was relieved to see them all get to 100%. I then verified the new version numbers were correct in the thurstmaster firmware update utility and in T.A.R.G.E.T. Finally I played with the sticks for about 7-8 days until yesterday when starting my computer I noticed the throttle lights were out and upon booting into windows and unplugging / restarting a few times that the device was indeed "unrecognized" to windows and was the same problem everyone else was having  -
Problem with Warthog Throttle
Vullcan replied to Jg2001_Rasputin's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
My throttle is doing this and I've only had it a week :\ Got it from Amazon in the US and installed the latest firmware just after plugging it in because I read about all the problems the old firmware caused. Guess the firmware didnt fix it. Good luck getting a new throttle to me anytime soon with this christmas shipping backlog eh? -
Is it realistic to use the rudder during gun-runs
Vullcan replied to kingneptune117's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Sorry to dig up this old issue but I was searching for this topic because I found myself using the rudder when strafing and figured it probably isnt a good idea! I was contemplating buying rudder pedals today and couldnt justify the expense. Other than on the runway, I find myself not really using the rudder. When should one be applying rudder? -
so even if you download this version 4 /w 64 bit support you cant use it in DCS?
-
Why is this version 4?? isnt version 5 better? (aka shouldnt they add support to the better / latest version of their product first??)
-
another vote for nvidia / ati option. TH2G will suffer framerate issues if you have decent settings.
