  1. If you are having problems finishing the mission, don't forget to call the SEAD cover. They are available under "F.10 Others" radio menu option.
  2. It works...well, sort of. Description: A-10 with 50% fuel, two Mk-84's to double as tactical nukes and one rocket launcher to balance the Litening pod on the other wing. The first loop I was able to release the bomb close to the apex, but was not able to finish the loop right. The second one, the release was good and the loop was a little better executed. Tactic: Getting in at 3000-5000 feet and doing a loop over the target area. Tried to make the altitude lower, but it becomes very, very dangerous on the way down. A-10 loop radius is way big. Release: For what i undestood from the drawing and description on the cited Wikipedia article, weapon release would be close to the apex of the loop. Impressions: CCIP mode allows you to release. My tentative is very crude. Maybe with a little more practice it can be done more accurately. Results: Not so good. No accuracy over the target at all. Also, the plane will lose a lot of the energy. I'm coming in at 340 kts with engine at 100%. But once the climb starts the aircraft will lose a LOT of energy. I believe that the afterburner on jets allow for a climb without losing much speed, thus energy. The bombs will climb, but they will also lose energy very fast. The result is that the bomb will be tossed forward and will not execute a loop, falling away from the target. The bombs will rise with whatever energy they have, will execute a parabolic trajectory and will fall. It will be in an erractic trajectory, though. All in all, kudos to ED, for making the modeling of ballistcs in this game very impressive. OverTheSoulder-Mk84.trk
  3. There are some prolems with this mission. I've flown it sometimes and it is very difficult to end. Problems I noticed so far: 1) The A-10 flight that gets before you attacks all the targets around. The mortars, tanks, infantry. What I do is to pay attention to their calls and then input them on the CDU, making them waypoints. Ater that, I proceed to the attack. The JTAC available will tell you nothing. Very bad. 2)After attacking the infantry on the hill, the mission will not end until you get ALL the infantry. One time I flew there were two soldiers left, in a place where I couldn't find with the TGP. I loitered for a long time, tried all the tricks to find them and wasn't able to. Mission did not end. Very frustating.
  4. In the book "Every Man a Tiger", Gen. Chuck Horner describes that this maneuver was trained in the 60's by the USAF. Its purpose was the launching of nuclear weapons and then getting out of dodge pretty fast. But, hey, the USAF did train for this kind of stunt with F-100's**, which were fast and powerful jets. For the A-10, carrying a light load may be possible. But I have my doubts if the Hog is hauling two big Mk-84's, or sme Mk-82's for example. In short, never tried it, have to. ** = if I'm not mistaken. :music_whistling:
  5. I think it is a shame most players out there don't even know that CAP and SEAD flighs are available to make the work easier for us, Hog pilots. A good thing is to to have an "ear out" for AWACS calls. When "Magic" says that a bogey, is "hot", "40 miles", "10,000", it is time to call the cavalry. It means that a possible enemy fighter is coming (bogey, hot) and at 40 miles out gives the CAP flight enough time to come out of loitering position and start their patrol. The "10,000" is the enemy altitude, so, it is typically a fighter coming to intercept. Note that choppers will be called "bogey, hot, XX miles, low". After you call the CAP, if you pay attention, you'll see that they will call out any enemies they find. Take note of the CAP callsign and wait for the "Fox 1", "Fox 2" calls. The CAP route is more or less your route, they will inform the waypoint they are passing at a given moment. So, if they call "Passing Waypoint 1", look at your map and try and see that the fighters will show up via datalink on the TAD, close or on top of your own waypoints. Very cool to watch! :) After they engage or if they didn't find anything, they will RTB. However, in the campaigns the CAP flights will be replenished as time passes. Again, pay attention to the guard frequency on your radio, because you will hear some flights being launched by a carrier (something like "Texaco flight, airborne"). And yep, there is a Navy carrier on the Black Sea, if you look at it, you'll see it's real nice. And last, but not least, one thing that is recurrent on the campaign missions is that the first wave of fighters that will come after you, usually are Su-25s. Once they are engaged by the first CAP, you can do your mission with no worries. However, to the end of the mission some nasty Mig-29's will show up. Be aware of the AWACS calls so that you'll know when they are coming. Look at the F10 menu, and there will be some new CAP flights avalable. Once the enemy gets to 40 miles, call the CAP and turn your nose towards frendly territory and dive to the deck. Luckily, the 29's will be shot down and you'll be home free.
  6. Evil. Bonsai, Glad you enjoyed. I tried to do the same with the Defend Yankee Base Mission but didn't get too far. The problem is because that mission has some bugs. The other A-10 flight will get there a litle bit earlier than you, and then they will engage all the targets they have in range, including the ones that the JTAC will tell you to engage. That mission works well sometimes, and other times it's real boring because JTAC won't tell you to attack anything, OR the target will already be destroyed. Well, I wish you good luck on finishing that. When it works well, it gives you a really good feeling of helping the guys in the ground. P.S.:You may make a search on the mission dedicated forums and see if somebody did some work to make that mission work properly.
  7. Ok! Thanks for the info. Really hadn't tried that in 1.1.0.9.
  8. Pickle button is the weapons release button. Before releasing, in the DSMS page, are both stations highlited? Also, are you using CCRP or CCIP mode? In CCIP you only need a short press on the pickle button. In CCRP you need to hold until release of all stations.
  9. What you mean you can target? It can be two things: you are not finding the targets or not marking them (make them SPI - Sensor Point of Interest). 1) In the first case, most targets are close to the target area waypoint. When you look on the TAD, you'll see that the current waypoint is your SPI. Then you selected the TGP to be your SOI (Sensor of Interest). You'll know it is your SOI because it will have a green square around the TGP screen. Then you must press and hold China Hat Forward Long (usually the "V" key). The TGP will move to the waypoint area. From there you can slew around and look for targets. Also, it is VERY important that you use the Boat Switch to change from CCD to White Hot/Black Hot Infrared. It will make things much easier; 2) Once you found the targets, you must zoom in on them with DMS Up/Down. Put the TGP crosshairs and them press and hold TMS Up. Then you have the target marked and locked made them your SPI); 3) To fire a MAV at them, change to the MAV Page. Then, slave all to the currenbt SPI (i.e., your target) by pressing and hold the China Hat Forward Long. Once in range, press TMS Up (TMS Up Short) that the MAV will be locked and then you can fire them away. 3) Please, have in mind that what I have told you here is the basic of the basic. There's a lot of learning and trying. It is a try and error process. I did the Instant Action - Easy Georgia Spring mission many times over, to learn and relearn this aircraft systems. 4) Don't be impressed by the You Tube videos when you see some guys strafing tanks, sending MAVs against air defenses and getting out with no scratches. If you ask them, they will tell you that they did had their long hours of frustration until they got everything right. 5) And last, but not least: read the manual! If the CDU part gets too boring, you can skip it and then go to the TGP pages and how to drop ordnance. Come back to the manual as you need it. It is a good thing to have an Ipad with the manual open on one hand and playing the game on other computer. It sure helps a lot. P.S.: It is a sim, not a simple game. So, learn, learn, learn, fly, fly, fly until you get the hang of it. There's no other, easier way.
  10. Very nice video 505 Mario. Well edited and good soundtrack choice.
  11. It's what Bucic said. Hold Numpad 0 + 1 for Left Console. Plus 3 for right console (CDU and lights). Plus 7 and 9 for left and right MFCD, respectively.
  12. Hey, glad you liked it. I'm planning to post more mission videos there. It is always good to exchange info by doing that. (right now, i'm learning how to strafe tanks by watching some other guys videos.) And nice walktrough you got there. We need more guides like that. (the fence in radio chatter gets a little bit confusing coordinating action with the Kiowa and the SEAD flight. Your guide helps in clarifying that.)
  13. And then, land afterwards...Now that is when things get reaaaaallly interesting!
  14. The game: $60 Track IR: $163 Video card and RAM: $400 Windows 7 (64-bit): $160 TOTAL: $ 783.00 and worth every penny of it!
  15. Yep. this is very real like. You can (and must) click on everything to see make the aircplane work. Regarding cluster bombs, you can adjust the parameters before releasing. However, the CBU-97 is still being worked on, to become more realistic (the 7 steps weapon). See below: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=78046
  16. True and true. This sim will last for many years to come. Take for example the people who still plays Jane's F-15 and F-18 until today, fifteen years after their release. Not to mention the Falcon community...
  17. BluemanSF, I do the same. If it helps, check in my channel for the missions I recorded. You may want skip to Part 2 or 3 of each video to see the most interesting parts. I usually stablish a orbit in a safe area, Mark the targets with the TGP and then push to make the attack.
  18. Oh yeah...and I forgot to mention that I bought an entirely new Win 7 -64 bit version just to run the game smoothly...
  19. Because of the DCS: A-10 I bought a new video card (NVidia GT 9800GT), 2 more gigs of RAM and Track IR 5 (worth the $$$!) Best stimulus plan ever! :D
  20. Hmmm..I agree. US Fighter aircraft, naval operations... the next module will be DCS: F8F Bearcat! :D
  21. I used to run the game on a offboard ATI 4850...not the best one, but... the game ran with all specs in the lowest resolution. However, if you want cheap AND good enough to run the sim, I would recommend ATI 5800 series, mainly the 5850. It is a good compromise between price and performance.
  22. Same here. A very simple 10-button controller with throttle embedded. Coolie Hat, China Hat, Slew and Radio on keyboard. TrackIR 5 to llok around, two joystick buttons to zoom in and zoom out. Works beuatifully. As Izoul123 said, justifying 500 bucks for a HOTAS...well... not desirable right now.
  23. Well, that may be true. Not to brag myself, but just to make a point, I show below my logbook. Got many of those medals while testing a mission I was making. By repeatedly bombing enemies with their AI turned off, I ended up getting promoted and all. I believe that the medal and promotion system is based on points you get by destroying enemy vehicles and infantry. Much like an arcade (i.e. 10,000 points - Air Medal. 20,000 points - promotions..and so on...)
  24. Also, I noticed that this time around you need to have the Intercom Panel rotary switch set to INT. And the INT and HM buttons must be pressed. Then, you can talk to the ground Chief. I extended the ladder and tried, tried, tried to talk to the crew chief, until I looked at the manual and there was the answer.
  25. One subtle thiung I noticed is that in order to to call the ground crew you need to set the Intercom panel properly, i.e., set the rotary switch to Int, press Int and HM buttons. Before I didn't have to do anything to talk to ground crew, now it seems to be necessary. I don't know if anyone else noticed the same.
