I don't think there is one. And, in my opinion, it is not desirable to skip ahead. Lots of the info that the JTAC gives you is important. Target coordinates and wind info is important to input in the CDU (the first if the datalink fails; the second for the target computer wind compensation). Just to name two .

Fire it up, man! This sim is so great, that you WILL spend more time than the advised on it...and it will be worth it!
-
Look at the HOTAS command list. It will be the CMS Start/Stop Program command.
-
Well, that's strange. Because in the sim, 10 K is more than enough to be away from Strelas. They usually are not a big real threat. Maybe, you got yourself too focused on the first target and didn't noticed the second SAM. It can happen because mission designers have the bad habit of putting them in ambush positions. Very nasty, indeed.

EvilBivol, It worked! Thanks!

Hmm..I'll try that. Thanks. Tried that. You can't. As it seems, ROE are only useful against and with other AI units, you know, for better coordination. Ok. I'll try that!

I'm doing a mission for a tutorial showing the different effects of bombs in a set of different targets. The groups consists os a mix between tanks, ZSUs, Strelas, trucks, etc... How to make them NOT attack me, when I'm closing in to the attack? I tried to set Weapons Hold as their starting condition, but got nowhere. I tried to set Invisible for my aircraft at every waypoint, but still no success. I must be doing something very wrong. Any ideas?

gmohr, I entered wind data in order to give the IFCCC and the LASTE (the firing computers) wind and temperature data so the computer can compensate for it when presenting the release cues on the HUD, resulting in a more precise attack. You set the wind for different levels (i.e. 00 for ground, 05 for 5k, 10 for 10 k and so on). Although this feature is not working in the 1.1.0.8 patch, I decided to keep it so others can use the reference in the future (i found that out AFTER making the mission...:doh:see the patch preliminary 1.1.0.9 change log: "- Wind entered on CDU WIND page is correctly accounted by IFFCC in aiming calculations now. The wind model was changed to account for wind fading to zero at negative 4000 feet."). The wind data is given in the wind page. More on this, in a very simple and straithforward operation of the CDU can be found at this thread: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=66422 More detailed info can be found in the manual, on page 206. I also updated the videos and the video list on my YouTube channel (now the all 07 of them). You may want to check it out. P.S.: Mid mission my wingie was shot down. I was trying to protect him by telling to stay in a orbit in a relativately "safe" place, but he got shot down by MANPADS, because when orbitig, the AI will get down to 5k feet. So watch out for this strange behavior.

gmohr, Slewing around with the TGP is the way it is, but JTAC says somethings that help. Here are some tips: 1) Change TGP mode from CCD to WHOT or BHOT. It helps spot targets from very far away; 2) When the JTAC gives you the remarks, he also gives you the location of the threates. Pay attention to when he says "Zeus northeast 1 nautical". On the TGP there is this very useful indication where the north is, so it helps locating the threat from the datalinked target; 3) it may be a little bit of a cheat, but send the wingman after air defenses. Make the datalinked target as your SPI, and then send the wingman to "engage air defenses on your SPI with missiles from default". This is the only thing that the AI at this state does right, and it is very good at it. 4) Also, if it helps and if you have patience, watch the video I made for the Smerch Hunt mission below:

Nope. Errr...well, I think you should, the problem is that you don't have this info and this is no airliner. Anyway, in the end, the only good thing QFE value is good for is for landings. When you adjust the QFE value, in reality you are "trimming" the altimeter to the current airport zero setting. When you take off and come back to land at the same airport, there is no problem, but it starts to make a difference when you choose to divert to other airports.

Actually, I don't think you are doing that wrong. The case is, Mk-82 Airs suck. You are releasing them in CCIP mode, which is, by the way, the mode that I found them to get right on targets, or at least, near them. CCRP mode get them everywhere but the target. Also, you are in a dive, and very low (1000 ft or less). Well, that's the way you do it!

billy, First of all, welcome. You can always use the boat switch to change from CCD (very weak) to the TGP IR modes - Black Hot or White Hot - (very good). They help you to see targets from very far away. I, myself, usually use Black Hot view. I find it is easier to find a black dot on a white terrain. Also, you can use the DMS UP or DOWN while TGP is Sensor of Interest (SOI), so you can get a very powerful zoom. Much more powerful than the Wide/Narrow Field of view zoom. Other thing is to get your coordinates right. Contact JTAC, wait for his data, and he will be able to show the right targets to you, where you can point the TGP very easily. Look for ExcessiveHeadspace videos on TGP usage on You Tube, and for WarriorX's guides on JTAC and on how to manually input coordinates on the CDU to find targets. In this game, forget what you have heard about the A-10 being an low-flying aircraft: fly high. Altitudes from 10 k to 15 k will do the trick. This way you will stay out of MANPADS and AAA range and will be able to see targets from very far, since the Line of Sight (LOS) will be clear. Also, you will be able to stay out of most SAMs engagement range. A procedure that I do is to get in a orbit in a safe distance (usually 10 miles out) and find the target. To get in a orbit you have to bank the aircraft left or right and set the Autopilot to Altitude Hold (ALT HLD) by pressing 4 + A on the keyboard.

Hello all, Posted on You tube, showing the Smerch Hunt mission, from start to finish. Had to post it in 7(!) parts, because the nice people at You Tube doesn't allow my account to upload videos with more than 15 minutes of lenght. As soon as you open the first video, a playlist will load the other videos automatically; however, if you desire, you can watch them individually. I choose this mission because it is a very complete one, in a sense that you need to be pretty familiar with most of the aircraft systems, like armaments and mainly the CDU, in order to input the coordinates given by the CAOC and JTACs. Also, you need to contact two different JTACs to coordinate the attack. Like said in the video description, it is not a tutorial or has any intent of being one. It is not to show the "right" way of doing things in this particular mission; just my way, with my mistakes. It has, however, the intent of helping out the novice player who has been facing dificulties in this particular mission or in the game in general. I hope you enjoy! P.S.: Sorry about the low video quality; still learning this craft. Special thanks: - ED, for this amazing sim; - WarriorX, for its guides on how to input coordinates on the CDU; - Dynamo, for showing at this thread ( http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=66422) how to program the CDU to compensate for wind; - Ranger79, for the cool green digital cammo. :megalol:LOL.

Also, for airports you can use the F-10 map and click on the airport to know its frequency. Other asstes, use the in-flight debriefing.

Testing and testing and testing again, I could found out this about CCRP employement: 1) You need to be low, very low. 1000 ft or less low; 2) You need to be fast, as fast as the Hog can; so a slight dive helps (very slight -3 alpha or less); 3) CCIP works better. For reasons I couldn't figure out yet, CCIP has a better chance of hitting that MBT turret than CCRP, for Mk-82 Airs. For Mk-82 in low drag configuratin, it is always a hit, being low or high up to 10,000 ft. Above this, the wind has too much influence and the Mk-82 low drag is only effective against soft targets, due to the blast radius.
-
SlackerD, I disagree. I don't think they spin at all. What you may be seeing is the efect of the wind on the ballute. which does moves a lot, but in the game doesn't. I really don't know what 's wrong with Mk-82 Airs in the sim. Maybe we are not employing it correctly, or it is not modelled correctly. I like to think on the first possibility, because we are either not considering the wind effect or droppingthem low enough.
-
My thought exactly. Thanks for tha track. I will try it out. And I will get the secret to using them correctly...I hope...:D
-
Will check out. Thx SlackerD! Edit: So, for 1), it is better to go higher tnah 1000' to use CCRP? I decided to use CCIP and I'm getting right on the targets, but still having problems with CCRP release.
-
Just a quick note: LGB's need to be dropped from 10,000 ft or higher. This gives time to them to steer to the target. Also, look at the time to impact. Fom 14 seonds on it is a good time to lase the target. Too early or too late it can miss.

Firts of all, I looked at the manual and tried to do a search on this, but no joy. I'm having problems with Mk-82s Air. On the Smerch Hunt mission is that what you got and looking on the Profile Page, it says that the bombs are armed with only one fuse (the tail fuse). It says Fixed High Drag. Thus, I have two questions: 1) When releasing them at low altitude (500-1000 ft) they hit further away from the target. I 'm using CCRP mode (because for me it is easier and doesn't have much error due to pilot input), even so, the bombs don't hit the target. Is it because of wind? Even at this lower altitudes? 2) When in CCRP mode, sometimes I get an "X" over the smal solution cue. I couldn't figure out why, only that if I maintain a very stable and level flight then I can release bombs, otherwise in a dive or a silght climb I can't. I would like to know what are the conditions required for a sucessfull Mk 82 Air release. I could notice that changing the scape maneuver helps, but what other parameters do I need to change?

Thanks for the community support, ED! You guys are awesome.

One of the best things for me so far, has been the customer support from ED. Not only the sim is amazing (lots and lots of WOW moments - see specific thread -) but also the fact that they are listening, reading the forums and being supportive. Now and then, the man himself, Matt Wagner reads and answer some posts to help the community. I really don't remember the last time where a major video game company head executive read or answered a direct question from one of its customers. ED is small, and that doesn't stop them from being very supportive to the customers requests. -
I would call JTAC, no doubt about it. Why? Well, because in RL things ARE different. Point is that this is a sim, and as such, it is trying to emulate the best it can a real life scenario. It is known that many missions are bugged or have some kind of issue. Just look for it at the forums. So, after this little explanation on why there are targets apparently sitting idly by, I think JTAC in real life would give you the priority targets, so, that's the "mindset" I get in when playing the game. If mission briefing says that I must call JTAC before proceeding that is what I do. Maybe, since it is a sim, so you can/must imagine/suppose somethings, maybe the JTAC is targeting some targets away from the ground forces because they are either too much for the soldiers in the ground to to handle or because they are some kind of reinforcement, that will harass our forces if reaching the battle line. So, taking your example, the JTAC sends you after some tanks miles away because they are too heavy for the blue forces to engage, if they come in contact. So, better sweep these high-value targets out of the way before they become a higher threat. And regarding those BMPs, I like to think that the army can and will engage them with no problem. They are light-skinned targets, and the troops can hold their own against them. But against thanks, that would be a different story. Just my two cents.
