Black Razor, Thanks for clarifying that. Zamboni, It's a nice video. But I cannot say much because I happen to like any videos showing a entire mission :). It is my daily dose of DCS:A-10 at this moment. (Due to work relocation I'm living with parents again and my computer and flight simming related stuff (joystick, game, video card) are at 1600 miles from me right now. So, if I cannot play, at least I can see others doing it.) Well, back to topic. I really like to watch others doing missions so I can compare and learn: what others do right and wrong, how can I improve myself. Situational awareness is always a problem. Much more in a aircraft like the A-10 where you have no radar and you have to go round and round after each attack. It is not like a strike aircraft where you just have to go, bomb and get away, all in the flight plan. The good side however, is that you really have to learn to navigate: look at the compass (be it the digital on HUD or the backup on the canopy), use references on the ground to locate the enemy (liked the way you were looking at roads looking for enemy armor; it's a good tactic.); etc. Once I get back to simming, I want to make a video about using the support flights. Once they get in, and IF, only if, you use them at the right time, the mission should be a success. I always send SEAD first and I keep an ear out for AWACS call. When it says enemy at 40 miles out, then it is time to call the cavalry ("CAP"). Ayway, have a nice campaign. This game is great and keep getting better and better (that is, until DCS:F-15E comes out... :D)

Zamboni, Great video. Watched the whole 80 minutes of it with pleasure. Some nice moments: - Seeing the big, beautiful C-130 rolling right in front of your nose. Big, noisy, nice propeller noises. Beautiful This game is great! - Seeing all the other flights landing/taking off as you taxi. Nice! - When there is nobody tho harass the A-10, the gun rules! Some LOL moments: - Your notes: "labels on/labels off"; "Sun" - LOL; 29 on RWR - "Go away" Mega LOL. - Questions: - The ATC gives you altitude in pressure "QFE 3857". How do I translate that to feet, or how do I read that in the altimeter??? - What code the ILS morse code gives? For my account, I got "IVZ"? Is that correct?

Wow! Nice video. how do you people keep finding these things? (Answer to self: maybe they actually read the CDU pages that we all skip). As someone else has already said: "CDU: it does not only kill people, it does math too!"

All the small details: seeing how the TGP and MAV follow the Mark poins I just created is one. And another WOW moment, of the greatest impact, was when I called the support flights to help me, and while orbiting seeing all the flights AND explosions as the SEAD flights cleared the way for my flight. Amazing.

And what is the most amazing is that the guys who pulled this off are either in a bunk in a sub, or flying incognito back to a U.S. base somewhere or in a obscure bar in the middle of nowhere just waiting for the dust to settle. No rewards, no medals, only the satisfaction of of being alive and having accomplished their mission. Maybe, someday, in 30 years time, we will see a documentary somewhere in the National Geographic-History Channel in just how they did it. My greatest respect for these guys.

Psit, This Instant Action Easy Georgia Spring is a very good mission to learn and relearn all the Hogs weapons and modes of employment. I've lost count of how many times I did that mission just to learn. There are two good videos on You Tube by 636castle showing his tactics for that mission. Check-them here (Part1): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V8kZE_qPjQU and here (Part 2): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AhcadmDT5fk

Viper, Thanks for the quick and kind answer. Wow...I'm amazed... those russians guys really had some crazy ideas. I was first impressed when I learned about some rocket launched torpedoes (i.e. RPK-2 Viyuga) and rocket propelled torpedoes (Shkval). But for aerial engagmentes never had seen something like those pods. Geez...those russian guys really think outside the box.

Manual vs Automatic lasing and Mk-82AIR questions
RodBorza replied to Nasder's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
As Frederf put it, the manual lase is a matter of personal taste. I do like manual lasing, just by the fact that if I don't have time to plan it, do a level flight AND having time to manually lasing my the target, I must be doing something wrong (like getting into a SAM envelope). Regarding Mk-82 Airs they are great if you have a very fast jet, doing a very low pass and need to stay very low because of the high SAM threat in the area. For the A-10, I don't see much use for them, because as the Hawg can go low, it cannot go fast and in this sim it is better to stay in the medium to high altitudes. Unless someone comes up with a mission where if you stick your nose out of the 500 ft you get shot, then use them only for "having fun" reasons. EDIT: Nasder, in a more useful note. Look at the following link. It shows how to compensate for wind by programming the CDU properly. I believe that you may be missing your targets because MK-82 AIRs are more dependant on the wind (I think): http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=66422&highlight=wind+correct+CDU -
DCS A-10C Digital Skins "Marine" & "Army" Pattern
RodBorza replied to Ranger79's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
His digital cammos are really cool. And when you look at a certain angle, it really makes the plane to be confused with the terrain. And regarding Nevada, since they are taking so long to do it, maybe it will be better (and bigger) than we expect. -
nomdeplume, Thank you for clarifying that. Now it makes sense. :smartass: Yes, I always have to use China Hat Forward Long everytime after I fire one. Now I understand that it happens because everytime I launch a Maverick, I use the TMS Up Short to lock the missile. I still have to test it, but now I believe that the Mavs will follow the mark points as the TGP does (since I don't touch the controls, of course).

Maybe it's lack of RAM power or more importantly, using 32 bit Windows. I have to say that my system is in the very low end of the settings for this game, but it has improved a lot since I changed Windows 7 to a 64 bit version.

From what I've seen so far, I believe they will fail. The seeker will be degraded to some point. I thought otherwise tough. But after reviewing MAV performance on the first missions I did since Betas, I now believe that they cannot track and engage anymore. But an official answer, including a answer on the official FAQ, would be very helpful.

Baggy, Maybe you have an asnwer right there. Since now, as I use the HUD as SOI to change mark points, I always have to press China Hat Forward Long to make the MAV head to look at the next waypoint. Maybe, changing SOI does break the slave mode. I'll have to try changing markpoints while keeping MAV as SOI and see if the MAV seeker moves automatically to nex target.

1) To help make coordinated turns; i.e.; changing direction without losing altitude. 2) To compensate for wind. See this nice article on the source for all (useless) things: http://http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coordinated_flight

Thanks for the answers. Regarding the rocker button, just a personal preference. I find easier to do it all while "hands on" the stick. For me, coolie hat, China Hat, Slew et all are at a fingertip/keyboard away. In those critical moments, I don't wanna to mess around with the mouse. But that is just me. :pilotfly:

StrongHarm, Not wanting to get into a fight, but now you got me confused... If not so I was already... Anyway, can the MAV autoslew? The Mark points feature is great. Imagine my surprise when using it for the second time and then finding out that the TGP moved for the next Mark point each time I moved the Mark Point Up or Down. However, in order to launch MAVs, I've always have to slave the current MAV to TGP, and then fire. The sequence goes as follows: 1) Create Mark points with TGP; 2) Change AAP to MARK; 3) TGP page selected on right MFCD; 4) Set HUD as the SOI (very important for me to not ever touch the rocker button on the UFC); 5) With DMS UP or Down, select the desired Mark point. TGP will beautifully follow; 6) Select MAV with DMS Left or Right (or DSMS page as desired); 7) With target in TGP sights, slave all to TGP with China Hat FORWARD Long; 8 )Change MFCD page from TGP to MAV; 9) Wait lock on (with a little TMS Up Short help) 10) Fire. In order to launch a second MAV I always have to TGP page and do it again (step 7 onwards). Is there anyway, once targets marked with TGP, MAV page selected on MFCD, changing from one Mark point to the next, (with HUD as SOI), will move the MAV seeker head automatically? Am I missing something here?
