Sorry, I should have been more explicit. I use Helios, which allows operating aircraft controls and displays to be copied to a second touch screen. This allows easy input of various switches and other controls as well as the output of moving displays. In my case the Huey T&S was missing it’s slip ball. Capt Zeen, is a superb supplier of the software which drives many of the DCS aircraft Helios displays. In the case of the Huey, there appears to be a minor snag, about which I sought advice, and which now I have solved.

I have discovered why the slip ball was missing in my Uh-1H set up. The slip ball referenced in the Profile, referenced the slip ball in the KA-50 Images folder. I just needed to amend the reference in the profile to point to the equivalent 'ball' in the Huey Images folder, and all now works perfectly. I suspect that the reason most people did not experience the 'missing' ball was because they also had the KA-50 installed and the Huey profile looked, and found it, there - the 2 images are nearly identical.

I have recently updated my Huey Helios profile to the latest by Capt Zeen. Unfortunately there is no slip ball visible. Has anyone come across this, or can suggest a cure?

OK, I think I understand that. I am not using STEP at all during the setting or the firing. I will look at that. Why is it always so obvious when someone points it out?

I find that with 4 harpoons on board, once the first is fired all the program settings revert to default. I have tried using a different program for each (Prog 1, Prog2, etc), but all go to default when the first missile is fired. Is this a fault, and, if not, can anyone suggest what I might be doing wrong. After setting all 4 programs I save them, and check again that they are all as set, prior to 'fence in', but once the first harpoon fires, the settings go.

I am sure you were both joking. If a set of rules cannot be complied with, they are wrong, and should be changed.

I am a little confused about the timing and/or position at which to make the "KISS OFF" Break as a leader of 4 ac. The 'Book' says ac in a flight should break at 15-20 sec intervals, But if you are not able to break within 4 nm of passing the ship you are to go around. If we are doing 360 kias, then the fourth ac will break between 45 and 60 seconds after the lead, by which time it will have covered between 4.5 and 6 nm. May I take it that the limit of 4 nm applies only to the Flight Lead, and that, if he or she breaks within 4 nm, the remainder of his flight my continue. A little pedantic I know, but "rules is rules".

I send my most embarrassed apologies. I use Helios, and for some reason the connection between the LTD/R switch on the Helios display and the main game, has become inoperative. Thus the LTD/R was not set to ARM. If I had a pound (or a Euro), for every time, over the past 30 years that I have told one of my students to “Don’t assume - Check!”, I would be a rich man, rather than a rather foolish one. Thank you for your quick response - sorry to have wasted your time

That is the problem. When I select FLIR, with or without being in A/G mode, I do not get a TRIG option on the FLIR page. I used to before the latest update, but now all I get are RTCL, VSVL, and UFC. I also don’t get any indication of the laser being on or armed.

I am having problems firing the laser using both LGBs and MavE. Which leads me to ask 2 questions. First, how do I tell if the laser is firing? Second how do I fire it (and stop it firing)? Most videos say ‘Fire the laser’. However at various times the method of firing the laser has been described as ‘Pressing the trigger to the second stage and holding it pressed’, and ‘Pressing and releasing the trigger’. Can someone give me a definitive answer to this?

Raisuli, I saw your post about a problem with zero volume on the SRS radios. I have had the same problem a few times over the last couple of weeks. I think I found the source of the problem last night. I found that the "push-on/push-off" switches for the radios on the Intercom Control Panel (Rear Left of Left-Hand Console) were selected to "off". I have never found these switches in this position on start before, but they definitely were yesterday. Next time you have this problem, try clicking on those switches and see if it cures it.

is it possible, at the start-up screen, to identify each individual aircraft by pilot name or formation position? I have been building missions for some time, and I am sure that in the past it was possible to identify individual slotswithin a flight. At present a flight is identified by flight name, and each ac is identified by 'Onboard', but, other than by briefing individual pilots with their tail numbers, there is no way that they can identiy a specific aircraft within a flight. Can anyone help?

Thanks for that - I will replace them with alternatives types.

I am writing a mission where various aircraft are designated as UNCONTROLLED, and activate in response to a trigger. Most work fine, but when I try it with the Mi-24V, it shows signs of battle damage from the mission start - It has holes and is spewing smoke. However, it responds to the trigger and flies as programmed, leaving a very significant trail of smoke. I have 2 ac in the flight and both do exactly the same. However other identical flights work OK provided they do not have triggered starts Anyone any suggestions?

I have recently updated my Helios to 1.4. However, when using Capt Zeen's latest Huey profile, there is no slip ball shown on the panel - the instrument is there but the slip tube has no black ball in it. Anyone else getting anything similar or any suggestions as to what might be the cause?

Precision-Guided Munitions - GBU-38 won’t drop
flyco replied to Highwayman-Ed's topic in Mission and Campaigns
I have found that the GBU-38 will lose its alignment in flight - it seems to be worse if you fly the aircraft smoothly. I routinely manoeuvre the Hog fairly determinedly during the last 3 or 4. Miles to release. If you do this with DSM selected on the MPCD, you can see the not ready indication extinguish. -
It is certainly not true that QFE has not been used since WW2. I spent my whole flying career in the RAF, and when I retired some 15 years ago it was still in general use. I am fairly sure that that is still the case. Even in the USA, QFE was generally available at many airfields, particularly military ones.

This can happen if you have Kneeboard Builder installed.
-
AlaskanGrizzly, I have reviewed my folder set up within Saved Games, and have discovered that the Data folder, into which KB places the Custom Kneeboard Settings has been set-up in Saved Games folder rather than the DCS.openbeta folder. This folder was established in May 2017, so I have been using it for some time without realising it. I cannot understand why it was set-up or why KB should send the custom settings there rather than into the relevant DCS or DCS.open beta folder. However, at least I now know what the problem is, I just need to establish how to correct it!
-
In the preferences page the DCS World Install Directory is selected to "OpenBeta" The next 2 lines are "C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World Open Beta\ ..." and "C:\Users\Alan\Saved Games …" It occurs to me that there is an anomaly in the two labels above. The former ends with a \, while the latter does not. If I click on the […] at the end of these 2 lines, the former takes me to the DCS World OpenBeta directory, while the latter takes me to the Alan directory. However, I suspect this may be a 'red herring'. I am using Open Beta. I am not using the "Custom" option in the DCS World Install Directory drop-down options. Thanks again.

AlaskanGrizzly, thanks for your reply. I have checked and the "dofile(…"" line you describe is in the locaion you quote - it clearly replaces the original file which has been re-named as "device_init_original.lua". The problem seems to be that there is no "F16C" file in the " '...Saved Games\DCS.openbeta\Data\Kneeboard Builder Config\Custom Kneeboard Settings" folder. There are files for all the other ac with custom kneeboards, but not for the F-16. I have tried to build and save an F-16 custom file several times, and each time there is s mall banner saying that it has been saved - but it is not there. I have note some references in this thread to "F-16C_50". However, I do not know ehere this comes from or what should bear this name. Thanks, again, but this does have me beaten.
-
I cannot get a useable Kneeboard for the F-16 using Kneeboard Builder, if I reposition the kneeboard. If I try, I get the aircraft spawning without any cockpit components. Can anyone suggest what I am doing wrong?

Slightly off topic, but the point is raised a few posts earlier, so I will ask here. I have seen several reference to putting the throttle to IDLE on landing, almost as though there is a Gate, through which the throttle must be retracted. I use a TM Warthog throttle set, and the only Gate I know of is the engine shut down Gate. Can anyone enlighten me about how one selects IDLE without shutting down the engine?
