  1. There was a default, stock, plain-Jane Flanker 2.0 mission in 1999 where you had to shoot down a reconnaissance MiG-25R. It was so short and simple, with so little actual combat, that the fps was ok, and there weren't any glaring avionics modeling inadequacies apparent (since there was so little use of avionics required). Since the target was at high altitude, you could actually acquire it visually from a long distance away by its contrails. The mission took only a minute to complete, but it's been my all-time favourite ever since. It fit the philosophy, "less is more." :) It was the only mission that I felt showed what Flanker 2.0 could do well, rather than trying to make it into more than it was really capable. -SK
  2. It seems cruel to ask what the community wants, without being able to give it to them... http://www.trackpads.com/video/index.php?action=showpic&cat=12&pic=753 ;) -SK
  3. Well thank goodness you came along, to take care of the hard part! :sorcerer: Making a flyable F/A-18 should be easy now, that we have this difficult poll out of the way. -SK Too many chiefs, not enough indians...
  4. It's a good question. This question was asked once, by a non-proliferation group. I don't have the link, but I remember that they commented how the US sold AMRAAMs to nations, using the argument that the opponent was equipped with RVV-AE. But in fact, only about 300 RVV-AE have been built and sold around the world, while the number of AMRAAMs was around (I think) 9000. The authors were using this argument to show that the sales of AMRAAM can't be justified for this reason, rather, it's only a political trick by the AMRAAM manfuacturer to obtain export licenses around the world. -SK
  5. (a) I'm not a moderator, and (b) you didn't say, "StarForce." So - why would you need insurance against me deleting your topic? :) -SK
  6. Oh the irony! After all the anti-UbiSoft messages on this board and elsewhere, now suddenly we look to them with nostalgia - our only protectors against Russian anti-piracy schemes. :) I don't have an opinion, but I think it's such a provoking question, I'm giving you rep. Yes, let UbiSoft's critics go crawling back to them, asking forgiveness for their flames, begging for their kind warm mantle of corporate protection against StarForce... :) -SK P.S. I want the MiG-29K
  7. Similarly, "nobody knows" if they're made of cheese. I'll bet you 10 to one that the terminal velocity is a "no", however. :) -SK
  8. Hmm... I've been told an all-boost motor is better for maximum range, because the burn-inhibiting combiner used in a sustain-grain propellant also reduces its total impulse. I thought that the sustain motor increased Rtr, not Rpi. -SK
  9. There are different photosets are being used. The 15 m imagery is LandSat 7 (1999), but some of the high-res stuff is apparently as recent as 8 months. I can confirm that some of the Ukraine hi-res is no more than 3 years old, from the presence of the tiny new passenger terminal and paved road leading to the east end of Belbek airbase that was built in 2003. -SK
  10. Well duh, thank you for pointing that out Sherlock... Where do you think "SwingKid's intended route" was trying to go, to the North Pole? :) -SK
  11. SwingKid's Sevastopol Adventure Thanks! I finally had a chance to try Google Earth on a Windows XP computer. Many nice high-resolution photos! In gratitude for those that posted images, here are a few that particularly interested me. In 2003, I rented a car in Sevastopol to see if I could follow a map to Khersones airport (which I had been told was abandoned and open to "visitors"). I never found the airbase, because all the published road maps of this area are, well, basically liars. I kept getting lost and finding all these-walled of areas instead. Now, I can see what was behind those walls! :) The red area was described by a local as a "shooting range" - not sure for what, infantry, tanks, airplanes.. -SK
  12. Watch the language -SK
  13. Ok let me rephrase. There was a famous quote, "Society is where everyone is trying to live off of the work of others." You want to play missions that the BSO team has made, T-Bone wants to use better tools that ED has made, ED wants "the community" to make missions for itself, Glowing_Amraam wants T-Bone and VVanks to continue, but not to make missions himself, Witchking wants VVanks to leave all this BSO nonsense and focus on carrying his textbooks, VVanks wants to drink beers that some brewery has made, and I want SkyWars2 to absorb all the publicity Glowing_Amraam has made. In the end, we all go nowhere, and climbing on each others' heads for air, only manage to drown together. And voila - "that's life" - our own little biosphere, going to hell in a handbasket. Now - what was the topic? :) -SK
  14. That's ok - it shouldn't be hard to do better than, um - zero? missions, in a few years. Here is my contribution, freely downloadable! I give you, the letter "E": E Notice the boldface type. :) -SK
  15. Don't criticize, unless you do better yourself! Remember the "announcement of an announcement?" :) -SK
  16. This perfectly explains why Russia needs to STOP developing its Air Force. The question is - why is USA more successful, and continues? ;) -SK
  17. Didn't you hear? "Life" isn't about what you're doing anymore... it's about what you're not doing. ;) -SK
  18. Ok I'm stumped. Which moderator would THAT appeal to? -SK
  19. lockon.ru topics don't get locked - they get deleted. Unless you post something to rescue it, like - I WANT THE MIG-29K!!!! ;) -SK
  20. The purpose of adding an F-15E (AI) is not to offset the Ka-50, but rather - to give the USAF realistic operations, and Lock On players realistic missions. The F-15E has been the primary USAF tactical aircraft since early 90s. Escorting it and intercepting it is what modern air combat is supposed to be all about. I can hardly create missions without it.. Especially realistic DC missions. :( -SK
  21. Hey Crusty - What's that scene in your sig? There's a sim with MiG-19? -SK
  22. Interesting... You spawn on the ramp even if the takeoff waypoint is a "Runway" waypoint? With engines off I presume? What happens if the number of slots (e.g. 16) is exceeded (e.g. by AI)? The 17th player has to wait, or spawns "on top", as on Kuznetsov? What happens when you spawn on top? Explosion, or collisions are temporarily disabled? -SK
