I disagree. Who wants it to be cancelled again later? Let them cancel it now completely, take all the flak, and surprise us later with the release, rather than empty promises now and yet another cancellation announcement later. The never-ending hype only helps to convince ED that someone else will create playable missions for them, so that they don't have to, and then we have nothing. Don't believe me? Read the Russian forum. :( -SK -

Hmm, engineering students huh? I wonder if there might be a way to fold some of BSO into SkyWars2. It isn't often that experienced mission builders, with this amount of perspective, appear out of the blue. I also gave up on building missions by hand for the same reason. "Never again!" I said. With a dynamic campaign, every time the mission file format changes, I just update the code once, and every mission that the DC produces is simultaneously updated. By coincidence, the theater and storyline of BSO and SkyWars2 seem pretty similar... ;) -SK -

I know this feeling, but I think it's an illusion. On the one hand, from what little I've seen of it, multiplay Lock On has just as many nagging wishlist items as single player. Whichever is your preferred mode, "the grass is always greener.." ;) On the other hand, I've found that any game that supports on-line play will inevitably be "mostly geared toward" on-line play, since single-player is (or should be) by nature just a subset of multiplayer. Supporting any kind of on-line multiplayer at all easily quadruples a project's complexity, from what I've seen, and eventually dominates everything else. -SK -

- A theater that supports realistic missions in an immersive storyline (e.g. NATO airbases, startegic object placement), - Units that support the same realistic missions/storyline (e.g. USAF goes nowhere without F-15E & EA-6B, Georgia goes nowhere without T-72 & UH-1, etc.) - Mission editor/debriefing bug-fixes to support a DC to be developed (e.g. saved debriefings in multiplayer, map objects that can be set as destroyed from mission start), - A user interface that's playable without too much specialized hardware (e.g. Caps, Scroll and Num Lock keys work as modifiers like Shift/Ctrl/Alt, more Padlock options for non-TrackIR users), - To not have Win98 users denied from playing because their systems don't meet minimum requirements of the copy protection, And, the ability to perform the same tactics and be concerned about the same issues as a real combat pilot during the mission, which covers many sub-topics: - A corrected Su-25 cockpit field of view that lets us see the bombing pipper in a dive, - Polyline HUD/HDD/RWR fonts that are readable at all zoom levels, rather than just looking cosmetically pretty when zoomed-in, - A less-scripted FM for AAMs, that exhibits the difference in range between lofted/non-lofted launch tactic, - Improved ECM model, supporting triangulation method instead of "burn-through," - Communication with, and laser illumination by, FAC for CAS aircraft - HUD repeater on MiG-29 HDD (and removed checkerboard lines on Su-27 HDD) - The "C" (color) in "MPCD" for F-15 - The AGM-65K to be usable like an AGM-65K - longer lock range, same magnification as AGM-65D, day-only lock, heavier warhead, "Quick Draw", etc. AFM is very nice and impressive, and I think, one of the greatest programming accomplishments in the history of flight sims! But, I might still trade it for any *one* of the above. Maybe if AFM included ground effect... then I'd put something like, "removal of checkerboard lines on Su-27 HDD" as a lower priority... ;) But seriously, I just happen to like SFM, almost as much as AFM! I don't know what the big deal is about! DC I'm not sure... With some of the above, maybe I could make it myself. Thanks for asking! -SK -
Once upon a time, combatsim ran a poll about, "which sim are you going to buy?", with a list of about titles that weren't yet released. IIRC, the winner was B-17 II or some such bomber sim at >90% expressed interest, that generated a buzz like nothing I'd ever seen before. "Finally, a WWII bomber sim!!" You couldn't find a doubting word about it in the forums, it was anticipated as "the flight sim to end all flight sims" - the Beethoven's symphony number 9, after which no new product could hope to compete. After release (just before which, some 90% of the anticipated features were snipped), I never saw a good word written about it again. The losing sim on the poll, by a huge margin, scored only around 2% (compared to about 15% for the next-least-anticipated sim on the list). I felt sorry for it, and the poor developer who was spending so much time, effort, money and personal sacrifice, to develop a sim that nobody wanted to buy. That was Il-2. -SK

Your sig seems appropriate for this topic. Every vote for one feature is by necessity a vote AGAINST another feature, that could be done instead. That's why I voted no. AFMs are very nice, but not even in the "top three" of what I'm most missing in this sim. -SK -

Я себя считаю создателем миссии и кампании. В Грузии нефта почти нет. Потому, реалистичная кампания в таком театре по-моему не будет так, как в Ираке, а прежде так, как в Югославии или Афгане - ЛА США покрывают сили сухопутных войск местной страны. Су-25Т и Ка-50 - противотанковые ЛА российской стороны. Не будет ли танков местного противника - не будут реалистических миссии и кампании. Ка-50? против Абрамсов? в Кавказе? Мурзилка. Так как и решение, сделать 3Д модели Су-34, Пётр Великий, и.т.п. прежде, чем F-15E. :confused: Первый вопрос надо стать - что видет лётчик в кабине? Красивая моделка что остает в энциклопедии а в кампании непользуема нам мало помогает - российские противотанковые ЛА не должни захватить российских танков в прицеле. Так же считаю, возможность пользовать одно и то же моделька Т-72 в будущем проекте в Средном Востоке, где, насколько я понял, в сухопутном войсках Сирии модификация Т-72Б нет. Легко говорить - "в будущее будет время для нового моделя" - сложнее верить. Через насколько лет и проектах ждём F-15E, без чего "современная боевая авиация" практически не действует? Фланкер 2,0, Фланкер 2,5, Локон 1,0, 1,1, 1,2... ещё реалистические миссии для F-15C, сопроводителю F-15E, полностью невозможни. Использование текуших моделей в ЛокОне для позже создание новых модификации кажется так же невозможним - формати ".cmd" и ".lom" польностью закрити. Как создатель миссии и кампании, просто вижу очень сильную потребность для Т-72/Т-72А, F-15E, и UH-1 - российский танк у меня уже есть. Но, это мое мнение. Может быть вы имеете в виду потребности, выражены другим создателем миссии? Или только энтузиастами моделей? Тем не менее, спасибо за помочь! Какой-то Т-72 намного помогает. :) -SK

Извините что не заметил продолжая обсуждение. Дискуссии вообще здесь: http://lockoncampaign.com:8811/board/index.php?a=forum&f=11 Проект всегда продолжается, но - первоначальная концепция уже от 9/2005 заменена новой схемой "SkyWars2," чтобы сопровождать мульти-плейер. Но при том сделана полностью снова от начала. :( Брифинг по-русски так же в план. Кому интересует, посмотрите пожал. на ссылку. Спасибо за интерес! -SK -

Очень интересный проект, но зачем ЭДЗ? Нам действительно более нужен модел второго современного малочисленного российского танка, чем первого грузинского? :confused: Я бы рад летал противо-танковый Ка-50 и Су-25Т, будет ли танков противника, чтобы поразить. Иначе, зачем взлёт? Насколько я прочитал, в Грузии ни Т-72С ни Т-72Б нет - только Т-72 и Т-72А. А эти и в России и в Украине так же. Какие миссии возможно сделать с Т-72 с ЭДЗ, что не уже возможные с Т-80У? Возможно ли сделать две модели? Т-72 с ЭДЗ мне так же интересен, но более как сирийский вариант "TURMS," для будущего проекта.. 2 коп. -SK

It's an interesting analogy. So, if the sim developer is the theater builder, and the users are the audience, then - who are the actors? And, when do they eat? Should they not be paid, for the performance? Would ED allow independent mission builders to earn money for their work? -SK -
