  1. I have two accounts on my DCS World PC (Windows 7 Pro 64-bit). The Accounts are: Administrator and Joe (user). I usually login as Joe and do everything as this user since it does not have administrator rights. I use the Administrator account specifically for installing software or other Admin required tasks. This is done to provide a level of security. I am curious how other users who utilize this admin / user configuration do their DCS updates and installs - and I'm looking for some recommendations. Here are three options: 1. Login and start DCS with my Joe (non-admin) account and then provide the Administrator pw if prompted for additional access privlages when updating or installing DCS modules. or 2. Logged in as Joe, right-click on the DCSWorld icon, select "Run as Administrator", and proceed with any updates or module installs.Basically running the current session as administrator. or 3. Login to Windows as administrator, start DCS and proceed with any DCS updates or module starts. In the past I have used option 1, however occasionally multiple windows can block views and time-out processes if something is waiting for admin access. Using option 2 or 3 - my concern is that running the game later as Joe the program or modules may not be available or there may be an access issue. To be clear - All of my regular DCS gameplay is done with my Joe (non-admin account) What has been your experience? What do you advise? Thanks
  2. mvgas - thanks. appreciate everyone's input. I'll work on doing the update.
  3. Okay. Thanks for the info. If the Hornet's going to be available in the stable version soon - I might wait. Installing the open beta at this point may confuse me further :-)
  4. I think reinstalling everything is my last resort - it may come to that. I think the next step is letting it do this update: Do you want to update to 2.5.2.18736.400? Currently Installed version is 1.5.8.12823.414 Update Now or Later I am assuming with this update the hornet would appear in my modules manager. Is that a correct assumption? Any ideas if it is going to ask me anything else during the install, like "do I want to keep version 1.5.8" The install instructions in the F18 manual indicate installing from an Administrator account. Since I keep admin and user privileges separate - I usually do everything from my user (non-admin) account and start any installs from there and wait to be prompted for admin access if the installer needs it. Has anyone run into any problems doing it that way? Thanks
  5. I'm really confused about my DCS setup and not sure how to proceed - hopefully someone can assist. About a month ago I clicked on the DCS World Download button and apparently the 2.5 version of DCS was installed. I also recently purchased the F18C - which I guess needs the beta version - which I don't have installed as far as I know. I don't have much interest in running Beta versions and even less interest in installing yet another version of DCS World. According to my file system installing the Beta would make four DCS file systems on my PC. Right now I have two DCS icons on my desktop, but three different DCS folders. The Icon labeled DCS World 1.5 points to the folder: "D:\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World 1.5\bin\DCS_updater.exe" Clicking on this icon starts version 1.5 and the Main screen shows Version 1.5.8.12823 in the lower right corner. The Module Manager Shows 6 Modules I have available for installation: DCS-A10C Warthog DCS Flaming Cliffs 3 A10C Advanced Aircraft Training Qualification Campaign A10C Operation Piercing Fury A10C Basic Flight Training A10C The Enemy Within According to the DCS 1.5.8 and 2.2.0 to 2.5 transition discussion: My 1.5.8.12823 install was an optional thing for me and something I didn't really need since all my campaigns and purchased modules are supposed to work in the new 2.5 release. I seem to recall it may have asked if I wanted to keep v1.5.8 around when it was doing the new install, I assumed I needed it because previously some modules weren't working in the 2.0 beta. So If I am correct I didn't need to keep 1.5.8 and I don't need it now. Is that correct? Any reason to keep it around? ******************************************* The Other Icon on my desktop is labelled DCS World points to the folder: "D:\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\bin\DCS_updater.exe" Clicking the Icon, it had me upload the latest installer and then a dialog popped up: Do you want to update to 2.5.2.18736.400? Currently Installed version is 1.5.8.12823.414 Update Now or Later I chose Later since I'm not sure of what is going on at the moment. The DCS Main screen the opens. The version showing in the lower right corner is 2.5.0.15365 Checking the Module Manager, my A10C and Flaming Cliffs 3 modules are installed here. My A10C Campaigns showing under the Campaigns tab include: A10C Basic Flight Training A10C Advanced Aircraft Training Qualification Campaign A10C Operation Piercing Fury A10C The Enemy Within A10C 16- RedFlag My Nevada 2.5.0 and Caucasus Terrains are also showing under the Terrains tab. It also asks if I want to install A10C 16-2 Red Flag Campaign. This is confusing - not sure about this so I am going to cancel it for now until I find out what is going on. The Red Flag Campaign did not show up in the 1.5.8 version - so I am guessing it only works in the 2.x version? Is that correct? Since the other six campaigns / modules are listed in both I assume they can be installed in either version. But installing in two different versions would eat up two install keys. Is that correct? When I go into the A10C Campaign list from the main menu I see the above listed campaigns I purchased plus the DCS default campaigns - however they are all Inactive. I really only need one version of DCS World and I may have inadvertently kept and older version by misunderstanding the process. I'm looking for some suggestions on how I should proceed. I'd also really like to get that Hornet that I paid for - don't see it anywhere, but I am guessing that is because I don't have the 2.whatever beta version.
  6. Is there an official DCS roadmap for all these different versions? I have DCS 1.5x and DCS 2.x installed on my system - both have various aircraft and campaigns. The A10C is the only aircraft I have purchased so far but it seems to work in both versions. I haven't downloaded the 2.5 beta yet. Is it DCS's plan to have multiple platform streams or at some point does all of this come together in one version? When 2.5 is released is it going to overwrite the DCS World 2.0 platform? Could someone explain or point me to the DCS World roadmap? Thanks
  7. Installs cichlidfan - It looks like I have my A10C and related A10 modules installed on my new PC. I have deactivated DCSW2 on my old PC. Q: Am I correct in assuming I need to download DCSW2 from the website (not from within DCSW1.x)? And then my Nevada scenery should show up there and I can apply the license to activate it on the new PC? Q: Will the A10C (already installed in DCSW1.x) appear in DCSW2? Or, do I need to download that again for DCSW2.
  8. Does DCS have any good user guides for dealing with reinstalling or transferring titles to another PC?
  9. Great. That is what I was hoping for: purchasing gets me the eMails with the SN for the modules - then later after I've setup DCSWorld on the new PC I will use the info from the eMails. ---------------------- A related question is transferring my current modules. I have the FC3, A10C and Nevada modules. After I have the new PC built I plan to: 1) Use the xxx_protect program for each of these 3 modules 2) Download DCS Workd 1.5 and 2.0 and install them 3) Within DCSWorld - download the FC3, A10C and Nevada and reactivate them 4) Within DCSWorld - download the "on sale" modules and activate them Sound right? I also want to install all the DCS software on its own dedicated SSD separate from the OS SSD. Any problem doing that? Thanks for the help
  10. Thanks razo+r, question is can I buy the modules now and install them later when I have the new PC.
  11. I am in the process of building a new PC dedicated for DCS flight simming. It may be a few weeks until I get it built, however I would like to take advantage of the holiday sale and purchase some modules. If I purchase the "on sale" modules now - I don't want to install them on my current PC, which I am decommissioning. I want to download and install the purchase modules at a later date. How would I work this?
  12. Shep What parts are avaiable for the A10C panels?
  13. When constructing and wiring a panel how do I determine the best Arduino model to use? I have several UNOs and a Mega Arduino - but I have seen reference in the forums to the smaller boards. These smaller boards have less pins - right? So they are ore limited in the panels they could support. An Arduino mini couldn't support panels with more inputs like the UFC due to the limited pins, Or am I missing something? Is a Matrix or shift register a solution being used for these smaller boards?
  14. I downloaded DCS-BIOS v0.5.0 and DCS-BIOS_ARDUINO-LIBRARY v0.2.4 Any special install/update instructions for replacing the older versions?
  15. Hey - thanks for the info. Looking forward to getting back into this - I think I am still short some hardware. Can you point me to the RS-485 components and where I can buy them? Also, are there any diagrams showing the relationships and physical connections of the Master / Slave / RS-485 / CAT 5, etc. I think understanding where all the components fit would be a big help to me. Thanks. Appreciate your reply. John
  16. Long time since last posting... I played around with DCS BIOS last Fall and was easily able to get a some switches wired up in a few minutes. I put any further work on hold until the issue of a single arduino vs multipe was resolved. So now I am interested in getting back into the panel building. I am fairly familiar with the Arduino and purchased a few Unos and the larger version months ago in preparation. I need some help in understanding the remaining hardware I need to get going. Can some recommend the parts needed for the multi Arduino DCS BIOS solution if all I have right now is the arduinos mentioned above. If there is a comprehensive forum post I might have missed please point me toward it. Thanks. Many more questions to follow...
  17. Thanks Excellent Work. Thank you for posting these dxf files.
  18. Ok - I found where I can download my free copy. My DCS main menu screen shows 1.5.3.52018 in the lower right corner - so I'm guessing I don't have DCS World v2 - right? Are these are two separate installs on my PC DCSW v1.5 and DCSW v2? The DCS World 2 Alpha indicates that the Nevada map is needed - which is what I want to get anyway. Does it matter which I download/install first? Nevada or DCSW 2?
  19. This has probably been answered somewhere in the forums...but if someone knows the answer I'd appreciate your help in saving me some reading time. I originally purchased the A10C on January 1st 2011, My DCS A10C invoice indicates version BETA4. I thought I read that earlier purchasers would get the Nevada map when it was available. If this is so, and assuming I purchased early enough for a free copy, then how would I go about getting this downloaded/registered now? I have since moved to the DCS World platform and have that the DCSW version of the A10C and Flaming Cliffs 3. Thank you
  20. There is a locking ring on toggle switches that hold them in place and keep the toggle from getting loose and rotating. The locking ring tab fits in those slots. There are two slots 180 degrees apart to allow the flexibility of mounting different type toggles.
  21. Thanks to the team and to Deadman for making this information available and creating these plans. As these are based on Deadman's trainer - I think we now have a very accurate set of plans from which to build. Excellent work.
  22. Excellent work. Can you show some additional detail on the lamp posts? Are they fixed or can they rotate? Are they hollowed out for the LED and wiring?
  23. Looks good. It would be helpful to see the Layer 2 layout for placement of the LEDs. Can you post some pictures of that?
