Hi all, Ive watched and read a good deal of stuff on the case 1 landing, and the drift compensation is not something which is explained very well. From practice I notice i get the 'you are a little left' most times, but rarely 'you are a little right' The reason for this is clear. Because the landing heading is approx. the BRC - 10deg, and the boat is generally heading into the wind, the wind is always going to have a component acting on the starboard side blowing you to port. While the drift C/O HUD symbology compensates for the actual wind, it does not compensate for the 'apparent' wind from the motion of the boat. Basically while the drift co points you to where you should go, by the time you get there, the boat has moved on. So following the HUD symbology will always leave you on the threshold with a higher bearing than the required landing bearing. What seems to be needed is a heading (pointing of the nose), which compensates for the wind drift and the motion of the boat, and to crab to the touchdown, straightening up for the runway line at the last min. Would be interested in any comments, specifically how people get the heading to the boat which leaves them on the landing bearing for touchdown.

That worked guys. Many thanks.

Hi all, i'm trying to set up some 2 position switches on my hotas. Those which in one position activate a button on the HID device, and in the other position, the HID button is inactive. So for example the 'Dump fuel' is a similar type button in the pit, its god up (on) and down (off). But in the game i can map to the On/Off action, so to turn it on in game, i can switch the physical button up, but to switch off i can't simply return it to the off position, i have to put it in the off position, then in the on again, to turn it off. If that makes sense. How can i have my button match the button in the pit. ?

OK, Here's what didn't work..... Removed any reflective objects from the FOV, Removed mouse mat from the desk, Added additional diffused light from overhead, Eliminated any source of LED light in the FOV, devices, throttle, amp, TIR etc. Changing my USB from a PCI riser card, to the main MB, Switching all monitors in front of the headset off. And here's what did work. Moving my chair as far away from the desk, as practical. I have a height adjustable one, so raising it. and moving my stick and throttle to the edge of the desk, gave me almost perfect tracking, with no flicker, or continuous re-alignment. A good test is to make a DCS track, then replay it with your chair turned away from your desk, looking into the room. Seems to me that the cameras have a minimum distance they will focus, and inside this it's not getting enough information to distinguish objects, and so gets confused. I will do more testing ,and try to come up with the headset-objects distance limits for the headset.

Thanks for that tip. Think it helps some. Daylight seems to be detrimental also. Hoping for more tips here.

Actually there are on the hog throttle

Hi All, I've been struggling with poor tracking in DCS since i got my reverb V1 some time ago. Tried various lighting, desk objects and even monitor wall paper, but nothing really improved it. Im using my hotas on the desk, along with a button box. I recently tried moving hotas back away from the desk, and temporarily putting them on chairs left and right, and this arrangement gave me much more consistent 6DOF tracking. Seems like WMR does not like very close objects for calculating tracking. While this is a temporary test, moving away from my desk is impractical ATM. Be interested in hearing others experience how you set up your room to get the best tracking with wmr. Cheers.

Thanks Frederf, Yes that's what i was referring to. Throttle - OFF/IDLE Works fine.

Hi all, Cant get idle cutoff work. Mapped to a keyboard key, and to one of my HID buttons. Tried it during start up FJS up to speed and battery on. Also from a running engine, to try cutoff the fuel. Neither work. Don't see any mouse hotspot for it. Am i doing something wrong or is this not functional in the current version ? Im using current beta. 2.7.1

Thanks for all the posts. Interesting perspectives. Here's another video displaying what real pilots do....

F/A-18C Kneeboard Suite - Updated 31 October 2024
Fish replied to Minsky's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
Bookmarked! Many thanks for all your hard work, and continued support of it. -
Hi All, I'm a TIR user for as long as the technology has existed, and have benefited from the ability to look behind without too much effort, by glancing left or right. Very useful in a CAC fight, not withstanding its limitations Recently tried BFM after some time with VR, and after a quick engagement with a mig29, i almost tore my neck from its socket, trying to strain to look around (also nearly fell off the chair with shock when his bullets ripped through my jet!). I also pivoted in the chair, but tried to hold on to my hotas. While combat pilots are very fit, and agile, i'm guessing there's still limitations to how far over their shoulder they can look. Be interested in any real pilot commenting on the distinction with real/vr during BFM's.

No, i have not changed anything since 2.7. Can you give me a reference to these please ?
-
Hi, Noticed this partial mask only since 2.7. Have repaired my install. Still the same. No mods. Does not seem to be affecting my performance, but i'm guessing something is wrong since its not symetric. Community poll for HARM and Maverick on stations 4 and 6
Fish replied to BIGNEWY's topic in DCS: F-16C Viper
Hmm. Not a very scientific approach. Counting yes/no's when you have no idea who voted or why! ED please stick to the facts, its what you are good at, and why your sims are held in such high regard. -
Thanks, Florence, I did not intend this post as a discussion of INS. I still cannot do what manual says. I'm looking for a definitive list of what is working/implemented, so i don't waste time with what is not. There maybe such a resource, but if no, the most obvious place for this would be in the Manual, which could be updated when the module is updated. I think it would also help in tracking real bugs on systems which should be working.
-
Hi All, I've had this module for some time now, and come back to it from time to time to assess progress. Is there any resource where i can easily find details or summaries of the items and systems which are considered complete, as i seem to be wasting time reading the manual, and then coming to the sim to find what's in the manual is not implemented yet, or there are bugs. A case in point is Normal alignment, and stored heading alignment, which don't function for me as indicated in the manual. (using the Nevada map as example, at non Nellis AB's). Cheers.

AOA index brightness, and BALL a HUD.
Fish replied to Fish's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
Cheers for the replies. Have changed the lua, will try it later. -
Hi all, Is there any way to 1. reduce the AOA indexer brightness, and (adversely affects visibility on boat lights), 2. disable the FLOLS symbology coming up on the screen (same as above, but also impacts on immersion). Cheers.

Is there a way to shorten the 8min alignment in the F18 on the ground?

After a dozen landing + pirouette's, i read this post. Excellent read, Now back to real landing training...... -
Is there any way to remove hide or switch off the DCS window when i'm using VR. I'm using WMR, and what's on my screen affects the tracking on my VR since i'm facing it.

Is the TAB key protected some way from being mapped. I don't use MP chat, and would like to use it for another function?
