    Button mapping

Cheers Orso.... 'shifted' is a legacy term from old TM days. I really mean 'modifier'. DX refers to game recognising a button click directly, not coming through some software like target which maps a button to some key bind or combination. You have answered all my questions. Going to try another key as modifier to try and pin down the issue. Thanks for taking the time.

    Button mapping

I've tried to map some buttons to my hotas/button box, but the wont map eg the LIDS norm/retract. I also cant make 'shifted' (modifier) mappings. Is this just stuff not yet fixed by the developers or is it just a problem for me? Cheers
  4. Title says it all. Can see the mappings for the coarse knob UP/DOWN?
  5. NO VIDEO THERE I'M AFRAID. :(
  6. get your self a little app called Treesize Free, and you can see down to the folder level what is using your space. Have you considered opening the enclosue of your external ssd, and connecting it as an internal second ssd drive. It should have a normal SATA connector inside.

    F18 or F16

Get the F18, and install BMS for the F16. When the DCS F16 is more like finished, it will be easy to migrate over.
  9. Finally finished the button board and the gear lever. Its designed with VR in mind (using the reverb), and in DCS I've only mapped it for the F18 Here's some details. Design is wedge, for ease of access. Height of buttons rise low at the front, high at the back All knobs back line. Buttons and switches different styles grouped, so there's tactile differences. Two push button encoders left and right, and 4 rotaries In the center. Encoders used for CRS and HDG knobs (used to fine tune since they are a bit slow). Shifted left encoder, push to activate the kneeboard, and shifted rotation srolls through pages back or forward. Switch line, left are 2 way up and down toggle with 1 active all times. Center are toggle left/right momentary also used for CRS and HDG. Last 2 3 way toggle. Bottom row is for start up, APU, CANK L&R, FLCS RESET and rudder reset. Gear lever is 3 position Design uses the Bodnar I/O board with up to 36 buttons and 8 analog channels. Box uses 29 buttons and 4 analogs. (analogs used for DD brightness. Battery and Canopy are up down toggles, with the down action requiring the shift button to avoid accidents. Here's a quick look at it in action Thanks to all who posted their ideas for me.
  10. Cheers cypher. x Just ordered this one. Price makes it a no brainer to try out first. Scale is right for my button board. Lets know if u have any progress with the handle.
  11. Spark of an idea here...… cheers. Gonna work on this one. love the simplicity.
  12. Certainly does. Little more high end than I was planning though. Do like the detent idea.
  13. Hi All, Finishing a design for a generic button box, but would like to add a gear handle, which is not just a 'switch'. I have space on on side I could put something. Any ideas welcome.
  14. Yeah, but we can't fly any of these tankers! Though if they fly with AP, might be a boring job.
  15. Would be nice, for carrier ops.
  16. Good news indeed. Thank you for the update.
  17. Thanks for the links. You are quite right, Actually I have a bit of aluminium 2mm plate. Will try to get some Teflon (or even some hard wood) to use as the sides. Can even wedge it,. Cheers
  18. That was what I was missing.. Cheers
  19. Hi All, Getting this message when I try to create a flight leaving from the Carl Vinson. Here's what i tried. added the ship with and without waypoints. left start time (waypoint 0) default 08:00 did not change the mission default stat time 08:00 added single flight F18 as Excellent, Player, Client. flight start time default 08:00 tried flight as ramp, parking hot. tried on two maps. tried delay the flight start by 10 seconds tried to fix other waypoints, in place of waypoint 0 all the above give the 'FLIGHT DELAYED MESSAGE' and I don't get into the pit, I don't even see the aircraft! Heres' what does work I place the fight in the air same time, I place the flight on the deck, Takeoff from runway. I place the flight on a land airbase, same time, take off from ramp or parking hot. I have a mission from some time back, and the ramp from the carrier works fine, along with a couple of AI flights leaving at the same time, but cant repeat it. Has something changed, or am I missing something. Cheers,
  20. Hi all, Thinking of making a simple generic button box with some toggle switches, buttons and rotaries. Have a leo bodnar board, and wondering where to get components. Bodnar looks pricey for this stuff (most I can see on ebay). Particularly looking for a suitable 'BOX' say 120x80x30mm. (cant see anything on ebay). Any advice / pointers would be appreciated. Cheers
  21. Stadia will not benefit Flight sim Gaming. No doubt, Stadi is going to take a large share of mainstream games, but as is will only be suitable for certain type of games. Those not so dependent on fast response rates. It will be standardised for a controller, like the consoles. Not suitable for flight sims or fast action. Biggest issue is the INPUT LAG. since the input has to go back across the wires, then the result gets rendered and the updated screen comes back along the wires. As is MP games at least can display the input on YOUR screen quickly, though the update to the other user suffers the same latency issue, and lag. Problem for us high end PC gamers, is its going to shrink the market for fast PC's and components. And in the longer term, we will become a much more 'niche' group, with the ensuing increase in prices of components. This has been happening, since many have moved from desktop to mobile and notebook, but game streaming will hasten this even more. We can see what has happended to GPU prices, since AMD has pretty much fallen out of the race. Imagine what would happen CPU prices, if Intel dropped out of the gaming CPU race (because of shrinking market for parts). But hey, if anyone can solve the latency issues with game streaming its going to be google, so we will have to wait and see. Interesting to note Microsofts re-entry to the sim market, and they will stream the data from Azure, to clients, but will rely on the client machine to render and process. I'm sure it's their longer term goal to be able to stream to the client screen, but at the moment its not being talked about.
  22. Mine from the VR optician. Not cheap, but well worth the money, and just snap over the Reverb lens (keeping then safe). so much more convenient, and larger sweet spot. Highly recomend them.
  23. thinks so...…..
  24. Will first you need to confirm that your device works as designed, and maybe you are not quite there yet with that. Use WMR to test the tracking. Forget DCS for that. Try it in a different room if you are having problems. Also test the 'see through the camera' to make sure cameras are seeing the environment. That also gives some idea of the contrast the camera is seeing, if there's little, put some in. Issues I found, direct lamp in the eye of the camera not good. monitors on my desk, I put some contrast on them, maybe a webpage. Big black mouse mat was a no no, especially looking down close to the desk. Cause its FOV gets small, and all it sees is black. I'm lucky the desk is grainy wood, but if it was slick it would be an issue. If you are to be pointing the headset under the desk, it might need contrast/light. There's not enough info I can see on the net yet to define best conditions for inside out tracking, but as user experience improves, we will get better lists of do's and dont's. Be patient, good setup will take some time. Frankly the inside out tracking amazes me with what it can do. Not perfect, but trade off of convenience is worth it and it will get better.
