I already have proper bindings for the comm buttons. What I want is to be able to navigate the comm menus using bound keys, rather than having reach around trying to find the correct function key from inside my VR headset.

Yeah mate I use VAICOM, and I've spent hours "training" the voice engine. But I still find that sometimes it doesn't understand me, no matter how clearly I speak, and it is quite annoying running out of fuel before it will accept my "approaching for refuel" command lol.

I found this https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=187330 But it doesn't seem to work with VR. There's also a poll there with 124 "+1"s if that counts for anything ;)

I use a combination of Voice Attack/VAICOM Pro and swearing whilst lifting my VR goggles and reaching for my keyboard when trying to use the in game communication system. It came to me the other day, that there is a very simple solution to make the communication system infinitely more usable, especially for VR users. Absolutely still keep the Function Key based menus, but introduce 4 new key mappings (that would ideally be mapped to a hat switch, I have one spare in mind on my joystick). Up and Down to move a cursor up and down through the current list of options (could just "box" the currently selected item) Left to go back Right to select Simples. I think you would have a lot of very happy VR (and probably even non-VR) users if this change was made. Cheers :)

As mentioned here https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=272899 The WINWING throttle has a spring loaded return to center axis for the radar elevation control and it works perfectly for controlling the radar elevation with nice proportional control. However, when operating the FLIR TPOD, with no control input the pod is constantly zoomed all the way in to level 9. You can zoom it out using the axis, but as soon as you release the control it works its way back to level 9 zoomed in. I don't believe this is the way it is supposed to work, can you please confirm if this is broken? There is a workaround using the WINWING software to turn the switch into a 3 way switch rather than an axis, but then we lose the proportional input to the radar elevation.

The switch cover. Because the cover is not recognised as a switch, it means that if you try and throw the gen tie switch it does not get picked up in DCS because the sim thinks the cover is still closed. So you have to click on the cover with the mouse to lift it before you can flip the physical switch.

Thanks for your quick updates. The only problem I can see with that is that it won't work as well as a radar control. I've confirmed mine works the same way (fully zoomed on the TGP unless I hold it zoomed out), this must be a bug in the F18 module as it works perfectly well on the Radar Page when controlling antenna elevation.

Mine is the same, I am guessing it is not wired up as a switch.

I fly VR so didn't notice this. Awesome feature, will have to go test it out :)

OK here it is, my first thoughts on the Winwing F18 HOTAS. TL;DR: I am in love Slightly longer version: I spent the last day building a custom stand so I could attach the throttle and stick to my racing seat. It's not perfect, the stick is too far forward and high, but it will do until my mate who is a metal fabricator makes me my real mount that will attach to the seat rail under the front of the seat. There are a few QC issues, the USB connector on the front of the throttle housing didn't line up with the cutout and so couldn't attach the cable. Loosened the screws on the front panel and it popped into place. One of the LEDS on the "combat panel" is flickering, but considering that was just a bonus and I bought the throttle and stick to go in a full cockpit, I'm not super concerned. Mapping the controls in DCS was easy. Winwing has their own control software with cloud based profiles. I downloaded the default hornet profile and all three controls showed up mapped and most of the mappings were correct, with a few errors (speedbrakes reversed for instance). But the important question: How does it fly? In a word. Smooth. Both the throttle and stick are just ... smooth. Speed control is so much easier, and none of the Warthog stiction. I fired up the AAR mission and not only was I able to make and maintain contact, but when the tanker started its unannounced turn I was able to maintain contact for a bit. When I lost contact I was actually able to rejoin ... in the turn. Something I NEVER would have even attempted with my Warthog. It's amazing how much my hands/fingers have muscle memory for the controls on the Warthog but then I guess that makes sense after 15 years of use! But I'm coming to grips with the Hornet layout and it's getting easier. So not a cheap piece of kit by any stretch, but well worth it, in my opinion.

It arrived, and it is awesome, just need to get some mounts fabricated so I can use the stick without holding it in my lap (need to mount it directly to my seat, the included mounts don't work as I'm not at a desk).

Was so excited when the Fedex shipping notification said the expected delivery was Friday, right before the long weekend. Now it has blown out to next Wednesday. Bugger!
-
My guess would be no, unfortunately. I have factored in 10% GST and 10% duty on top of what I paid ...
-
I don't agree entirely, I can hit all the controls on my warthog in VR without having to look, it might take a little while to remember position by feel, but it can be done.

Oh my poor credit card. Hopefully this one is cheaper to post than the HOTAS!

Send them an email and they will sort you out. info@winwing.cn

I've just sent an email asking the same question. And got a reply :)

This. Not just the visual model, but the realistic comms etc as well. I primarily fly offline and this was a day one (pre)purchase for me.

Just saying, but you don't need to file a paypal dispute as a first resort. I cancelled my order ages ago due to financial reasons, and they refunded me within a couple of hours. -

You pick your carrier when you check out. -
Hey Ian, sorry to hear about the job but happy to hear that you have time to get back into dcs-bios. Perfect timing for this release as well, as I am about to do a run through of my hornet library to check that every single input/output works as expected with real hardware in preparation for writing the sketches for the openhornet project. I will now target this for dcs-bios 0.8 and look forward to having the library included in the official repository.
