Can't wait to ditch work and get back home to fire it up again :) Thank god the boss is out of town, managed to get in a good chunk of time here today hehe

No I meant multiplayer. I didnt see the JTAC before beta 4 so I dont know what it was. I just heard you took it out because of the military asking... was wondering why. Thought maybe you had bigger plans. But having CIC center for AWACS (DO they still run JSTARS?) ATC etc would be awesome. Maybe even just using the map combined with a control panel that showed your resources. Could almost be a like a real time strategy. Could just have a tower view, or flip to different radar sites to operate them. I've been fascinated with electronic warfare. Probably why I work at a WISP. You'd have limited AI resources and limited respawns of real life people. To the point a timer kicks in and you can't fly until the timer is off. Or just run an entire day's campaign directing caps to protect the hogs and such, changing missions on the fly.

Cool because since I just upgraded my vid card I was going to give my old one to my wife. Now I can use my old old one for this :) 4 Gigs of RAM enough to run the server? Will it run better on a a 64 bit OS? Or being a server it shouldn't make a difference?

They gotta set up the page and all that. Steam will pump it up real good.

I know most people are real aviation buffs. But some of us have never flown these airports or taxied or anything. You are dropped into a bunker and do your run up and then.. where the hell do we go from here? The actual manual doesn't have any maps of the airports that I could see.. (I could be wrong). Now I found a link in the KA forums of airport maps. So I printed them off. So I was lucky enough for that. But what about the rest of the people? Sometimes I don't know where I'm going. I'll get cues to taxi to a runway, I can kinda guess by looking which runway that would be and which general direction I should head. I also know there are labels on the ground for taxiways. But not really any clear directions. So you are posed with a question right off the bat - which way do I turn left or right when you exit the bunker. I've actually ended up in a dead end once and tried to turn around on the ground and of course sunk my nosewheel into the ground. So how are we to determine where to go in the maze of some of these airports?

Thats why a sandbox is the best thing.. just let people log in and fly around and voice chat. No pressure.. I'm going to look into a second license so I can run my own server if I can get the hardware going.

I think this release is going to attract a lot of new customers. I mean black shark was supposedly the best out there but it was Russian so it didnt attract the western market out there. I've posted vids of this sim on other forums and chat rooms and everyone's jaws drop about how awesome it is. I expect word of mouth to get out. I just hope many don't get scared away at the difficulty. We need a lot of people to help these newbs out.. including myself heh

I thought you had to take out some of the jtac ground type stuff because it simulated a little too closely for the market. Or you going to offer it later on maybe for an add on? I'd be in for that for sure.

I requested it as well a long time ago - so far in some of the campaign missions it DOES list them. You just have to read. I dont know about all of them though.

I thought I'd want the Warthog hotas, but I'm making due pretty well with the X52 so far. I'd wait for the price to come down. Here $500 is a little steep... especially since it doesn't even come with rudders!!

I second that.. By far the best simulation of a fixed wing aircraft there is period. Now to polish up some other areas and get us a dynamic campaign or virtual battlefield sort of thing going on.. :) What would be really fun is having two battlefield commanders with a gods eye view in the mission only able to see certain things depending on radar range and radio reports. You could direct or launch missions from airbases, scramble etc, while we actually had people online. If they made the frogfoot you could have head to head almost..

What kinda hardware do you need to run the server? does it have to be souped up graphics? Or can you go with a decent CPU and crappy video card just to get it running?

Congratulations on the awesome menu music!

I thought about turning it off but then I didnt. I actually left it on. -
I agree.. I'm not looking for some of these hard core squads. I'm in it for the fun. Then you have to ask yourself why not start up your own squad of just like minded people? I used to run a squad called the 1212th Lawndart Squad for a little while just for fun. Was great to meet some casual players and meet online to have some fun. I want to run a server myself actually because I have the ability to put it on some fiber with a lot of upload. Wish there was a dedicated server option somehow.. I want to find some good online type sandbox missions where people can do what they want. An online shooting range maybe. Then run missions where you can have your own AI wingment so you are not restricted. Once you are comfortable we can try formation flying and other challenges like refueling etc.

I'm still working on communicating with the actual ground crew.. never been able to.

Ahhh thanks. You know I've never needed to use the pinkie switch yet. Was wondering what they were for.

Changelog or comparison between final and beta4?
Lonecrow66 replied to Galwran's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Nope.. I dont think there will be one either. This is a fresh starting point for everyone. -
Final manual is in the docs directory.

Thats what I posted.. it might have been removed though :)

Didn't notice but I did get launched at a few times last night. First one missed.. and then I noticed the labels on the missiles actually disappear as they get closer. I managed to get hit in the side.. and similarly I barely heard a noise. A little tiny explosion but not much. Even when viewing from outside the reply there was very little if any noise. So far all the sound in this game is spectacular in all regards except for the missile impacts. The gun rounds hitting you are "ok" but could be better and a little more realistic compared to the damage you see outside. I usually hear one "ping" that I'm hit.. I look outside and I see that I'm sprayed with bullets all over the fuselage. Would sound better if when you got hit it was more like a whole bunch of shrapnel hitting it. I suppose someone will work on some sound mods for this :) But don't touch the gun.. its perfect!
-
We really need a rewind for replays Please please please! Unless I'm missing something. It wasn't in beta and it was added to the wish list. Is it still something possible in a patch? Would make taking screen shots much easier and making movies etc. It would only help sell more copies with us pumping out really cool youtube videos :)

DCS A-10c Final video (gun sound improvement?)
Lonecrow66 replied to Ranger79's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Yeah I love the new sound.. makes it fully satisfying. As for flying over the target area.. I know what you mean. Thing is you are so limited as for time when you are trying to slew and work the controls. Especially when you are using the thumb mouse ont he X52... its friggen useless for mavericks.. locking mavs are impossible unless you are in straight and level flight. I don't know how my wingman is able to launch on 3 targets in a row so fast. -
Yeah I'm going to look up how to do that tomorrow.. almost time for bed :)

I've seen screens I've seen others with the wingtip lights on etc, but I've never been able to get mine going. I usually end up giving up. I know the nose wheel lights are for taxi, takeoff and landing. I know the far right back panel is for lighting. I have turned ON the strobe, turned the dial so it is full bright. I've played with all the dials and can't get the external lights to work. Someone make a really short youtube or something? I'm just not getting it. Even though the manual talks about how to turn them on. I turn them on and it just doesn't show. The formation dial is full on.. If I click on the anti collision light it flips up and then just auto goes back down. Small thing but never got mine going. Maybe just not visible during the day?

It doesnt wobble like it used to as badly. I had to manually lase the targets I was playing with in instant action but was accurate.
