  1. I just upgraded from some 4x1GB sticks to 4x2GB sticks. Same brand, Corsair. Never had problems with this brand but OCZ/Kingston/Crucial etc, all good as far as I am aware. Ebay is a good place for RAM, a lot of people selling off their older gen stuff like my rig as they've moved on to i7 stuff. Managed to get a 4GB pair for 38 GBP. the other day Kuky is spot on, though. Make sure they're matching. Same CAS latency, same speeds, same sizes. You may want to sell your current 2GB and upgrade in the mean time. your motherboard supports a maximum of 8GB, if I were you and I was on 64 bit, I'd try and max that out with 4x2GB sticks of a decent brand. Are you on a 32 bit or 64 bit OS?
  2. I'm not expecting any patch for DCS 'till they're happy with the performance of A10 on the whole. I also don't think that will take a huge amount of time. I'm in no rush. I just hope they don't all burn themselves out and we're left with a bunch of devs who go insane and start making shopping trolley simulators!
  3. hah, yup..doubtful! Just reread your post. The root of BS is the folder called "Ka-50" inside the Eagle Dynamics folder. Select the Ka-50 folder, that'll be the root. So, yeah, install the game, update to 1.02 and you should be good to go.
  4. I'd say you'd be better off doing so, yeah. I have my installation on a completely separate HDD. backup any HOTAS configs and just reinstall somewhere else, I'd recommend a separate HDD if you have one/can get one. Heh, yeh born in Ashington but moved about a bit till ending up back up here. been sunny today, but christ it's cold!
  5. Hey Steve, a fellow Northumbrian! In Newcastle atm...
  6. I don't really muck about with mods to be honest but when I have done I'm fairly sure I clicked 'add' near the top of the modman window and then browsed for the .rar file of the mod?
  7. Or just click the add button in modman?
  8. Part of me wants to have a boxed version to hold but I'll give my reasons why i'm fine without... I've used Steam for a few things and now I've downloaded both A10 and BS from here and Direct2Drive respectively. I'm happy to do so again. There's manufacturing costs, the waste of energy (some will see this more than others) and also the fact I don't really want loads of boxes for games dotted about the place. I have saved the BS downloads onto a DVD but also have a 1TB drive with loads of random stuff, amongst there I will save the original downloads and subsequent patches for BS and A10. They are cheap, so why not? I don't need to worry about the DVD getting scratched and as I have a few HDDs setup on my system, if it comes to a reformat, I just have to double click and wait for the installer to do its job. A quick process as we're talking 1 HDD to another. If in case the HDD and DVD backup goes wrong, log in to the place you bought em and redownload. Also, at some point you'll have to download the patch, for BS it is now just over a GB of extra data isn't it, with 1.02? I don't have any problem saving that somewhere or burning a DVD of it instead of having to readownload every time... I will be a hypocrite now, though...I do want to see a version of the flight manual, like the BS manual released. I really enjoyed being able to go to bed and read about the Shark when I bought it. So, please ED, I hope we can have a hard copy of the A10 manual!? Anyway, horses for courses I suppose, I for one really don't mind DLCs and don't mind just having a downloaded copy of ED stuff to store on a DVD or HDD somewhere.
  9. Kingneptune "After applying the patch to an installed version of DCS: A-10C Warthog, please reboot your computer before running the game.". Thanks very much ED!
  10. Yeah I actually started reading their forums and realised that it seems fine to run it. I spoke to my folks earlier and yup, she didn't mention she had to give a code out for the caller to get control Tsk..
  11. Got ya, k. I will bite the bullet n buy one soon.
  12. My mum got scammed by some person pretending to be from microsoft (my poor mum). they told her to download that and then proceeded to try and sell her copies of windows which could be installed over the net for 200 quid, luckily she was savvy enough to see through that and promptly rang me. I told her straight away to remove the ethernet. Then went round and upgraded her to windows 7, reinstalling everything. She learnt her lesson. But yeh, that was the tool those gits used and I still haven't been able, or been bothered to work out since, whether or not it's a legitimate app. I doubt it.
  13. I would just put your flight sims on the SSD, leave windows separate on one of the HDDs. Even then, though, I'm sure it would be fine sharing them, I'd imagine it be better to just dedicate an SSD to DCS stuff?
  14. Yup, that's what i'd have thought, when all data is loaded into your RAM and GPU, processed by CPU, your maximum FPS will be exactly the same, whether or not you're running the sim from an SSD. What you will find is that if at any point you see a stumble/glitch when it comes to loading that mountain in the distance or that building you weren't originally looking at, then yes, an SSD will allow that data to be loaded into RAM a hell of a lot faster than a typical moving platter drive, so your stutters may decrease. Having said that, though, a well partitioned set up or dedicated drive that's nicely defragmented, should limit those occasions by a siginificant amount anyway. That's my understanding. siefex, yup I'd recommend buying one more HDD. Just get one that has the best pricing per GB and is 7200RPM. I'd recommend a Samsung F3 or F4. Partition the start of that drive for more critical apps, like DCS. Use the rest of that drive space to store all your random stuff.
  15. Yup, best to have your OS on its own partition on a dedicated drive. I have windows 7 on an 80GB partition, with another 100GB partition for random storage/backup, nothing too critical. I have 3 other SATA drives. One for audio work. One for audio libraries and so on. Then I have a 1TB drive divided into two. The beginning 200 GB is for games/sims, this is where I've got DCS stuff. The rest of that drive is for more random backup/music/videos/docs etc. I rarely store anything of importance on the main OS drive and partitions as if that drive goes down, all I'll have to do is reinstall windows and the progs I use. I won't lose anything I'd really rather not have. Also, being into audio work, I rely on an external drive to back up projects. A nicely defragmented partition on a separate drive is best so that it can be dedicated to just the reads and writes that DCS needs available, without ever being interupted (as much) by anything windows might need to do if they were having to share the same drive.
  16. Cool, an ETA! Can't wait. Great stuff, Ricardo!
  17. yup, like lixma says. Use the PVI-800 button. Manual Chapter 6/Page 64.
  18. I kind of see Black Shark as a piece of art. It really is like you're in another world when you fly it, some games achieve that, like Operation Flashpoint at the time, but now ARMA has lost that 'feeling' unfortunately, for me. BS, however, I think gave me that vibe again, A10 doesn't feel as evocative, for some reason. Don't get me wrong, though, A10 is great but I haven't put the time into it enough yet. I will do. Flying the Shark kinda reminds me of why my dad drives classic cars. It sorta feels like you can smell the cockpit, looking outside the craft you feel like you can taste the air. It's a strange feeling, one that only really comes into effect when you've finished playing and start reflecting. Anyway, I'm getting a little OTT now. Black Shark is truly a masterpiece.
  19. Hey you're back, muchos respect for keeping at it, Ricardo! Can't wait to try it out. All the best.
  20. Whatever USB port you plug it in, are you getting device functionality within the control panel options within Windows? Win 7= Control Panel>Devices and Printers or with XP I seem to remember it's Game Controller. If you are getting throttle and Axis movements there then it is definitely in game settings., Follow the advice that tells you to set up your axis in the sim's options.
  21. I was reading through this thread and enjoying the detailing and discussion about the switches and covers and it was looking like some really amazing and talented work. To get to the page where Ricardo gives us the bad news I honestly felt my day get a lot worse. Even the clouds appeared again outside my window!!! I have lost many hours of work with music I've created and to think you can go back to it and redo it, no, not a chance. It takes a lot out of you and whilst I hope Ricardo hasn't given up, which would be highly commendable if he hasn't, I would understand if he had. Let's hope the silence is him working away on that 100 hours (jeez...) work lost. All the best with this mod and I speak for all of us when I say that we'd appreciate any news on what you're currently working on but, I'm sure many of us, although dissapointed, would understand if you felt like you couldn't pick up the project with the enthusiasm you had. Here's hoping you still have that drive! You're obviously an extremely talented individual.
  22. I await full release but really I'm quite keen on there being beta 7,8 maybe even 9 before it's fully out.
  23. Yeah, what will be will be. I suppose when confronted with the need to spend money on an update most here, including me, would indeed pay the fee if they really had to. Although I'd like to think that ED have a moral obligation to update the titles we've paid for to bring about whatever changes they deem necessary to offer the customers a full and finished product. I'd also like to think there will be more patching for BS in the coming months/year(s) as it is a unique simulator and offers an experience that's worlds apart from the A10 module as I see it. Whatever they (ED) decide to do I don't think there will be a problem when we also come realise that ED aren't just trying to make as much money as they can (well, not for the whole part) but actually trying to complete a project to the best of their ability.
  24. Yeah Speed mentioned charging for the compatibility update. Just before yours and my posts, EtherealN.
  25. Just got up to have a cig as I can't sleep tonight. Radio is keeping me up. thanks EtherealN. Noted. Fully agree withe the guy above me about FC aswell. I do not think we should have to pay for a compatibility update, though.
