It's one o those things me n a few mates are wondering what to do about upgrading. We're all pretty much on Q9550s with decent GPUs. Best system is a Q9550 with a 570 card. As you can see from my sig I'm just wondering whether I'd benefit from a better GPU or going all out and just going for an 2600K - or cheaper and maybe wiser- a 2500K? DDR3 is surprisingly cheap and so are the motherboards. Seems like Intel want me to spend the bigger proportion of my (lack of) cash on the SandyBridge stuff... Hmmm, what to do!?
-
Yeh, but your GPU is rather poor I think. Might wanna look out for a second hand 8800GT/9800GT or equivalent ATi card, of which I'm not sure about. Or do a fairly expensive upgrade and get one o the newer cards. Might be able to pick something up fairly decent and cheaper off ebay or summit.. Post a screenshot tho so we can see what you mean.

I'll just mention that I never install games to the same drive, let alone the same partition that my OS is installed. Maybe this advice will help you? I have a separate 1TB drive partitioned into 300GB at the start for games and the rest for storage of stuff... I never had any problem installing DCS BS/A10. The paths for both titles for me are as follows: F:\Eagle Dynamics\KA-50 F:\Eagle Dynamics\DCS A-10C Windows might be picky about using the Program Files folder, I'm certainly picky when it comes to installing any games to my C: drive. Get a second drive, install to a path like I mention above and maybe report back if you still have any issues?

Yes, ARMA2 warping in MP games is terrible. I hope they sort that out, The path finding when building a nice AI convoy ambush mission is shit as well. The ability for AI soldiers to walk through carefully constructed walls for mission editor custom bases is also a right pisser. The fluidity of the animations is also an annoyance and something that should be focussed on. In the gamescom video I noticed he pressed 'V' by mistake and I could still see the sorta clunky way it then moves back into the running/walking animation. I bet if you fall/'jump' off a small height as in ARMA2 there will still be that delay before you can keep moving in the new title. We'll see, I suppose. With that said, I am looking forward to it and will most likely buy it after weighing up just what exactly they've focussed on. If they haven't made a complete overhaul or at least adjusted and tweaked, with a vast improvement over the predecessor, some of these rather long in the tooth bugs and problems then I'll start feeling somewhat cynical about the real incentives and/or intentions of the developer. I can't help but think that fancy screenshots with full on resolution is slightly missing the point when it comes to something like ARMA. What they really should want/need to focus on is the AI, and to be able to show that off! The 'I' actually standing for what it should, not something like Ignorance, Inability or Ineptitude. It's nice to see graphical improvements and nice graphics certainly impress. I like feeling like I'm in a high quality, very well produced and immersive environment but I would dearly like the feeling that I'm playing something far deeper than that, with awareness, reactions, animations and individuality within the AI that would stand apart from other games/sims. He touched upon the scene where the crew of the boat would lean on the side, well that's great and stuff but, really... Is that all you have to say about the personality of the units in the game. The other problem for me is that the video clearly has the enemy AI on the 'dumb' setting. Dunno why and don't care but it would have been really nice to see some clever movement and awareness. When the mine goes off, jumps in the air and takes one o the enemys out, I wouldn't expect someone else to just run past and get blown up by another. I also didn't like how the soldier stopped in the road and healed himself. It would have been a nice touch if someone else had come to his side and moved him away or the guy himself found cover to heal. The scope thing is a nice touch, ragdoll looks ok/good, glad it's finally in there! The ability to change clothes is also fairly cool but how is this system gonna work? Just grab a a new suit and go kill all the people who don't recognise you? Hmm, what fun. I wonder if the animations will be a little tidier than what we saw there, I thought it was rather comical: "Hello, all of a sudden I'm changed into different clothes and this dude is in his boxers and a vest." Come on, show him ripping his trousers down with extreme accuracy and speed, BIS!...

Hey. new track up called 'Forever Hound'.

Hey cheers, Yo Yo. Yeh more recent stuff has a few more live instruments, I say recent it's still around 2-3 years old. Must get piano recorded.... Thanks Ronin! Hadn't thought about it but I'll check out the site, maybe could be cool. :)

Hey Cornbread, just got soundcloud message, too. Thanks for the comments, tis much appreciated. :) I'm using Cubase along with, what mostly at the time ,was either an Echo Gina24 leading on to a Mackie Onyx400F and more recently the RME Multiface2. I had a Korg TR Rack, a Novation Supernova, a Yamaha A3000 and a Proteus 2000 to help with a lot of the sounds. A couple of years ago I sold most of this stuff as I started just playing a lot more piano and rarely firing up the PC for music purposes, I also started getting to the point where I wanted the money for other kit, like a new Studiologic keyboard and also the RME interface as my past keyboard was awful to play and Mackie weren't being the most supportive of their original Onyx range. I use a few key bits of random software. Certain sample libs like Battery 3 and Ocean Way Drums, Fabfilter Twin, Volcano, Timeless and more often than not, the dynamics and effects bundled with Cubase 5. Ultra Analog stuff and a few others. If you need tips on anything then feel free to PM... Cheers again!

Do we know if BS will get the graphical updates?
Bodo replied to Conure's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
I really can't wait for this patch. Just the environment update, great. lighting and shadows, I hope so but, if not, still will be great. -
heh, cool little thread we got cooking here. Reason does seem pretty powerful, ronin, haven't used it, though. Often have thought about trying it out so may do that in the near future. Yeh welcome Yo Yo! That track sounded great, nice trippy ending, too. Nice guitar sound! Ahh I just got in after a heavy pizza! Can't move.:helpsmilie: You're all signed! :)

Ah, cool. Well ya should get some stuff online for listening. Glad you liked Bored..yeh, heard of Tool but not heard much of their stuff, I'll have to check em out. I've changed that track quite a bit now so I'll put the latest up soon.
-
Hey thanks very much for your comments, JEFX! yeh, recording more live stuff is something I'd really like to do. I have an upright piano and me and a mate are just in the process of setting some mics up for recording that among other instruments, just a bit stuck for time at the moment. The most recent piece, 'Bored' is the first thing i've done for around 2 years. Sullen and Carts being most recent before then. Currently trying to sort the percussion out on Bored as it's not quite hitting the mark. hmm, need a live drummer. :(

Yup, exactly my thoughts. I know it's not the point but I don't think they'll ever capture the feeling of Flashpoint for me. It just had a real timeless and immersive quality, that has been the biggest problem with ARMA. I know it's probably nostalgia along with the fact I was only 21 when I played it and nothing like that had happened before. I am looking forward to III but there have been just a few niggles that kills off the enjoyment of the game, AI walking through walls and general stupidity when it comes to things like convoys etc. I'm pessimistic but I hope they actually make it feel intelligent. I'd be far more impressed with something that looked like Flashy did but scare the shit out of me for how sinister the AI opponents were. I know, from the limited knowledge I have of AI programming, that this is easier said than done. Then again, I ain't really that arsed, it'll probably be fun to create a few missions, online now n then and then just get bored, like I do with every other game/sim! (apart from DCS BS, of course, sorry ED!) =)

Wow monotwix! ;) Yeh Thor, make sure ya do...I'll at least try n help! Made another piece last night and just put it up now.. Was listening to some more of your stuff the other night ronin, it was chilling me out quite nicely!

As far as I know, and hope, it'll be like flying the black shark within the A10 game but without the ability to fly the A10 and of course with the game still looking like you've loaded up BS. So, updated airbases, textures, map editor etc. Am I right?
-
Hah, well, a whole weekend to buy a car, you must be a hard sell! ;) At the moment I hardly ever bother with recording, all I play is piano and just don't have the motivation enough to actually get stuff down. oh well.. Listened to a few tracks of yours, ronin, some nice stuff, not something I'd listen to in all honesty but there are some nice vibes and beats going on at times! Keep it up! I'll keep an eye on your stuff.
-
I haven't actually loaded it up on my system for about a month. It's too daunting I tell ya!. TOO DAUNTING! :) But yeh, when BS is compatible and A10 is patched as far as it can go and I have some spare time, I'm gonna get to grips with it. I really can't wait for the BS patch, though. I know that once I put the effort in I'll be fine but for now I haven't learnt anything other than the odd HUD detail like waypoint info and how to cold start. That was around 2 months ago now, probably forgotten it all. Oops
-
hey thanks again, ronin! Very kind of you. Yeah Next Bad Thing is probably the oldest track on there. I do have a soft spot for it, made when I was 18 some 12 years ago now! Anyway, thanks for following and I'll check your stuff out now. Rusty, yup...laziness is what I'm good at, too. if you feel like recording then drop me a PM, I'd like to hear it.. If not, well don't stop trying to play if you enjoy it because one day you'll start again and wish you'd played a lot more when you had the chance!
-
Cheers BKLronin, I'll check your stuff out when i get a chance. Why did you not carry on, Rusty? And I wanna hear this work of genius you made way back when! :)
-
yup, same here, works great. I would just make sure the hardware that you might have at the moment is compatible with 64 bit and has the necessary drivers. I'd also recommend at least 4GB of RAM on Windows 7 64bit.
-
Cheers Thor77! There are some pretty good sound libraries out there with some good sounding drums. Most of the stuff on soundcloud is around 4 to 10 years old but more recently I mostly play piano, currently trying to get some things recorded as my mate and I have just bought some mics. If you need some tips on what to use to maybe start creating something just give me a PM and I'll try to help.

Heh, yeh it's far from excellent.:) Thanks tho mate for listening and commenting! Be interested in hearing what you've made.
