Well, Glowing Amraam, your vids are pretty special so I make an exception when it comes to those! I think some get it right, it's noone in particular I'm thinking about. It's probably a more general observation on films/TV etc to be honest..Big boomy sound effects and loud crashing big orchestral music, it always seems to get in the way, for me. I always have an example of the film The Third Man in mind, or Tarkovsky's Stalker. The minimal use of sound in the latter and the subtle changes in the tone of music in The Third Man add so much to a scene, especially when the music cuts out and you're left with the 'grit' or whetever you want to call it of the scene where the atmosphere works because you are left with the true sounds that are present, or implied. If you haven't scene it (pun intended, somewhat cautiously...) then do watch it. But yeh, there is a distinction and I know what you're saying!

So you want a product for $25 instead of $50? Ohhhh, well why didn't you just say so?

Liked the vid, Welten. Less dramatic music and editing the better. Lets the game/sim advertise itself better if you ask me. The true sounds do a lot to giving that sense of realism that you don't get with that awful drummy choir hollywood music over the top that so many vids seem to want to use to add a cinematic quality. Less, in these cases and in my opinion, is more!

Devil Out to Get me. Installation and Problem Running
Bodo replied to dne48's topic in Installation Problems
Heh great news! Well done Panzertard! -
I'm doing an upgrade of my 560Ti to this by using the EVGA Step Up. Great stuff, might only have to pay about 80 quid to upgrade to it. Only problem is that I'll have to send my card back to EVGA. Gonna be without a PC for a short while, maybe a couple o weeks. yikes. THink I got my 560Ti just at the right time as with the release of this new nvidia card, that seems to be worth the upgrade, has coincided with me being in the last week of my 90 days step up eligibility. yey!

In post 18 I sent you a link about how to use CCLEANER, did you have a look at that for future reference? It's not a bad idea to back up your registry before using that tool, either. ALso, I don't konow if you did this, but did you try a new user account? My course of action here would be to download the latest ATI driver, use whatever tool they have or tick boxes in the installer to remove/do a clean install, ovewriting the previous installation and reinstall with the latest drivers. I'm wondering whether CCLEaner could have done some OTT cleaning, again, read the link I posted in post 18. I've not been able to check this thread, but I hope you/we can get this sorted. I still feel a new user account and making sure that you install the game to a different location other than C: drive (even tho A10 is working fine) would be a good idea, along with a complete removal and reinstall of your ATI drivers. -

Not sure I remember correctly, but this might have been a problem for someone else in the past... Have you simply tried to unplug the X52 before starting the sim, among other unnecessary USB devices? -

Black Shark and A-10C aren't available :<
Bodo replied to Shark-Bait's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
Hi, Nate! So, from what you're saying, in future do we have to have the BS install, then BS2 (if we have the upgrade) installed to then be able to install DCS World and install the BS add on? -

dne48, try a new user account? At least that will check whether it's a system wide issue. Maybe update all drivers, especially Graphics and Direct X. Make sure the Visual C++ stuff is installed and up to date. Then you can try MSCONFIG to see if things are running in the background are causing errors with the original user account. Start>and in the search box, type MSCONFIG. On the general tab, choose selective startup and untick load startup items. Here is a guide for ccleaner, I'd recommend sticking to it as I've experienced using ccleaner and being a bit over the top with it and it just ends up causing problems: Here If you need hekp with any of this, just ask. -
How does P51 run (FPS/stutter) compared to A10 or Shark?
Bodo replied to BTTW-DratsaB's topic in Bugs and Problems
Runs nicely for me, somewhat better than A10. Looking forward to comparing the perf difference when we can try BS and A10 within World. -

Hi, I find it's good practice to have the torrent downloaded and kept in its original download location. I then copy the files to a small library where I have the DCS a10 and BS installers, all in their own folders. When I know all is qwell I'll delete the torrent and possibly back up the DCS files to a DL DVD, or just keep them on my 1TB drive where I keep most things. Unless your computer is doing very strange things, or you removed the files without knowing , I can't see how that file will have just been deleted. Maybe a disk cleanup utility empties your recycle bin, comething like ccleaner does this. I would download the torrent as it's hash checked and you can be sure you have a reliable source file/s. After that I would then make sure to install the DCS World files first, in their own specific location, separate to the original installs you may have and, if you're like me, preferrably to a separate drive altogether from the operating system/program files folders. After the DCS World has installed, then install the P51 installer. You should be good to go. I very much doubt there will be a need to worry about your money spent. I'm sure people here will be able to get you up and running or tell you might be wrong. J Just make sure you have the files downloaded and safe, I'd recommend using utorrent and downloading the torrent from the website. If you need help with this, don't hesitate to ask. -
Why does DCS mean Digital Combat Series in DCS World? Is that a mistake?

P51 Shoot Yeah!! Loving this work, ED. -
Yeh, the nuts getting shot off could keep me entertained for a few hours, though. Have to agree with the above comments about the game looking rather poor. The original was ok, just got a bit dull.

Best NVidia drivers for the GTX580 ATM?
Bodo replied to msalama's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Unless changing cards, I don't see anything wrong with just selecting the installs you need in the nvidia driver setup wizard and ticking clean install. Don't think the hassle of safemode/driiver sweep is that necessary in all honesty, given a typical update of drivers. I'd recommend ticking clean install every time, though. I'm trying the 296 drivers from nvidia for my 560ti. I'll wait on the next set when it's tested. Never seemed to have much joy with guru 3d forceware drivers and as for beta ones, well never really thought about it. -
@Hassata. Class film!! Ridiculous, but pretty funny. You should check out Hot Rod if ya haven't seen it. On topic, just tell him it's good and he's a dick if he can't start the engine on the black shark as fast as you can. bet him 20 quid that he can't do it in 2 days...:)

Same, can't fault my X52 Pro. Only very slightly upgraded mine from a normal X52 and the build quality and feel of the stick is great. Of course I could spend a lot more on a hotas set up but considering I sold my 5 year old X52 for 50 quid and bought the x52 Pro for around 70 then I didn't actually fork out a great deal for what I believe was money well spent.

I have both and to be honest, I haven't even touched the surface of the A10. I do however thoroughly enjoy BS/BS2, it's been a joy to learn and really fun flying it. Feels more immersive than the A10 from the get go. The A10 computer systems etc kinda did my head in trying to learn them, I did only spend about a day or two and what with only just getting the hang of BS at about the same time the beta a10 came out, I've never actually fully sat down and spent enough time to learn it. If I had the time to get A10 down I'd probably enjoy it just as much but BS was a real joy to learn and understand and I still enjoy the feel of it. P51 will have the same gutsy rawness as the BS, I imagine, so I'm really looking forward to it. A jet would be cool, but I really like the idea of another DCS chopper, too. So to answer your question, I think they're both very challenging and I'd bet the A10 is more challenging to learn in full, the flying side of it is more...automatic, I guess, which is why I think I enjoy flying the shark more.

Hey, right well that's pretty much convinced me to send mine back. Not long it seems for the next nVidia range to release so think I'm better of getting me moneys backs. Thank you, both, for your help!

Ahh, shit sorry, EtherealN, I could have sworn I saw you using the MSI Twin Frozr thingymajig.. Excuse me, soo, thanks for the reply mate, well, hmm, coming from someone who slept next to an hydraulic motor doesn't fill me with confidence you'd be best placed to advise me on loud fans, then!! :) Ok, well, I think I'll have to live with it, guess I can always turn up the volume of whatever I'd playing. The thing is I make music so I'll have to look into turning the fans right down somehow. Also, I'm looking into getting a 550D corsair case soon so my Antec P180 might be allowing me to hear the card more than I may be able to once changing cases. I'll sleep on it, make a decision. It's such a petty niggle really and going through an RMA is a pain in the arse but I got the impression, after reading up about the fan issue on this particular classified EVGA model, that others are also a little annoyed, especially since EVGA said they're releasing the ultra version with an updated heatsink/fan design Makes me wonder, whether they knew it or not that the fan/heatsink/card itself weren't as best as could be, that it leaves me with a card that I could be more satisfied with, with another brand/model. I think I'll send it back and get a refund. Been without a card for so long now I guess another few days to make the right decision is wise.

So, I got my EVGA GTX560 Ti 448 Core and I'm currently trying to decide whether to take it back and get an MSI of the same range. I've hooked it up and I'm fairly happy with performance, however, the fans are pretty loud. Even at idle they're quite audible. When upping the fans to around 50% they start getting uncomfortably loud. Now, I can deal with that, to an extent but, I'm wondering whether I shouldn't get my money back and get the MSI version with dual fans. This also seems to be a known issue and thus EVGA have released an Ultra version with more RAM and an updated Heatsink design. There are some lengthy discussions about this over on their site. The reason it's not so cut and dry is because EVGA offer a step up option where I can upgrade to one of the typical reference designed cards in the near future ( 6 series) and send my current card back, as long as the card desired is released within the next 90 days or so as that's the restiriction on time for when I'm eligible to take part in the step up plan and of course I pay the difference in cost, not a bad deal... Now, the problem there is if it's not one of the better 'Ultra' or 'Classified' cards I may still be stuck with a rather poor example of an heatsink/fan design and so will still be dealing with somewhat, in my opinion, excessive fan noise, even when idle even after an upgrade. I'd probably be content with a 560 448 for some time so an upgrade my be the unnecessary carrott in front of me, the donkey. What would you do, please? EtherealN, if you catch this thread, I noticed you had an MSI that I'd want to get, what are the fans like? What case do you have and, when running BS, is it a fairly loud card in your experience? THanks all, I ca send my current card back as long as it gets there by Monday next week so I need to make a snappy decision...

I finally went for it and got an EVGA Classified ed of the 560 448 core ti. Having heard only good things about EVGA then I hope I'll be happy. Also they have a step up program so in 90 days I may be able to upgrade to the latest 6 series, if they release in time!! Just gotta pay the difference.
