  1. Havner that's a great site you have, and damned good screens! thanks for posting! Is that you landing on the roof? duh! I guess it has to be you!:P Flyby out
  2. Viper, great screens and commentary. As you catch your breath, please keep us posted so we-who-don't-have-Black_Shark can live vicariously through your adventures. Oh, keep the screenies coming!;) Aww hell Leafer hates everyone!:D Flyby out

  4. In Oleg we trust (ED too) Beyond the mist of the future lies the promise of combat flight sims that require quad (or more) CPUs, and at least two powerful GPUs to render real-life battle scenes with complex physics for weather, AI, vehicles, weapons, etc. It's be like looking out the windscreen!!:D Oleg's SoW_BoB may be the first since F4 to really use multiple core CPUs. ED will get there one day. Then wives and kids will lament being abandoned by daddy (abandoned husbands will demand their wives get off the pc and change the baby!). Oh happy day!! Meanwhile, anyone ever tried brown rice and veggies wrapped and steamed in ox scrotum? Flyby out

  6. GGT, you should be impressed with my stupidity by now.:music_whistling: I was really referring to the Su25 in FC. I guess I thought it was the T. If it is the T then I had no idea it was so lacking by the new standard.:noexpression: Flyby out
  7. I guess it is, for now, but why not import it? It's already got the AFM. I'm not trying to argue the point. I'm only pointing out how cool it would be as a cooperative a/c in Black Shark's world. I imagine some might agree. It is my opinion that varied combat aircraft in a sim make for a better online experience. Black Shark comes out the gate limited in that way, and I think the next add-on a/c will be the A10. I suppose there could be some cooperative missions between the hog and the Shark, but that seems a little less likely irl than the 25T and the Shark. Anyway, thanks for the reply, GT! Flyby out
  8. Can the Su25T be imported to BS or otherwise made flyable in BS? Probably not in the plans, I know. I'm just thinking how cool it might be to have a multi-player COOP where a flight of 25Ts go in first and perform SEAD, then call in the Black Sharks to clean up the target (rich) area. I'm sure AI will perform SEAD just fine, but human dead meat is much more fun.:D you know me, Flyby out
  9. Thanks Wags. I can see where the memory on that 8800gtx comes in handy for that 30 inch display. I recall now that you posted your system specs before, but I guess I thought you'd bought some new stuff. I'd say that's pretty good performance you're getting. Flyby out
  10. Wags, that must be some humongous gpu ya got there. How about sharing just a trifle bit of info on the gpu and the monitor you're using. I'm still trying to spec out my new system. thanks! Flyby out
  11. I'm interested too I'd like to hear from others about this as well. My thinking right now is to build a system that will perform well on combat flight sims that take advantage of multi cores. So far Oleg's Storm of War is the only combat flight sim on the (distant) horizon that will take advantage of multiple-core CPUs. Black Shark does not take advantage of multiple cores in it's DX9 rendering engine. Later iterations will, but not now. But I will add that if I were to buy a cpu right now I'd want a quad that could easily overclock to about 3.6 ghz. That speed seems to be a sweet spot in some GPU reviews in that the reviewers want to eliminate the cpu as a bottleneck to the testing. Barring a quad, I'd like a dual that could easily overclock to the same level. The E8500 definitely would be on my list. Also I think cache level helps too. The more the merrier (games will be).:D Btw, I am without a gaming system at the moment. But one day perhaps when lions ly down with lambs (without gutting them) and eagles fly with the doves...well, we'll see. Flyby out

I hate this forum server. I can't edit here at all!! I wind up with douvle posts. It doesnt happen to me elsewhere. All that to say sorry for the double post.

new front wings I have heard that F1 is working on new adjustable front wings in an effort to add stability in passing situations. Drivers will be able to make adjustments in the cockpit. I understand McLaren and Ferrari are working on this under the F1 authority. When I find a link I'll post it, but has anyone else heard this? Flyby out PS next year SLICKS

  15. yet another Nehalem link I'm guessing Intel will release a version of Nehalem that will really up the ante for gamers. Here's another link about the i7-940: http://www.techpowerup.com/73680/Core_i7_940_Review_Shows_SMT_and_Tri-Channel_Memory_Let-down.html it doesn't seem that impressive for gaming. Maybe another version of Nehalem will deliver the goods.
  16. then there's this link: http://uneit.com/2008/09/24/intel-core-i7-940-in-real-test/
  17. then again to quote from an article by Anandtech:"Nehalem is about improving HPC, Database, and virtualization performance, and much less about gaming performance.....Why? Most Games are about fast caches and super integer performance. After all, most of the Floating point action is already happening on the GPU. The Core 2 CPUs were a huge step forward in integer performance (not the least because of memory disambiguation) compared to the CPUs of that time (P4 and K8). Nehalem is only a small step forward in integer performance, and the gains due to slightly increased integer performance are mostly negated by the new cache system. In a previous post I told you that most games really like the huge L2 of the Core family. With Nehalem they are getting a 32KB L1 with a 4 cycle latency, next a very small (compared to the older Intel CPUs) 256KB L2 cache with 12 cycle latency, and after that a pretty slow 40 cycle 8MB L3. When running on Penryn, they used to get a 3 cycle L1 and a 14 cycle 6144KB L2. The Penryn L2 is 24 times larger than on Nehalem!" I am sure this info is a bit old. I understand that Nehalem will come out in different flavors. Maybe one will benefit gaming? We just need more info. Anybody? Flyby out
  18. I wonder how the Nehalem will be for gaming?
  19. NP no problem with a semi-hijack here. it's all good.;)
  20. Hey all If I had the choice of going with either the new ATi 4870-1gb gpu or the new GTX260+12 gpu which would be better for Black Shark? I ask because I read an interesting article over at HardOCP about the new ATi card, with the 260+12 for comparison. In reading the conclusion of that article I found myself wondering if the Black Shark rendering engine was more a) shader intensive, or b) more memory capacity sensitive. I'm not astute enough to know if it might even be "both". Here's a link to the article: http://enthusiast.hardocp.com/article.html?art=MTU2MiwxLCxoZW50aHVzaWFzdA== Which would you choose? The new Ati card is only $24.00usd more than the 4870-512mb version, and is competitively priced with the GTX260+12 gpu. Flyby out
  21. I don't know. I was hoping the "gone gold" word might translate into a lifting of the nda. I guess I can assume it will only be lifted once BS is released to the public, but it was more fun to hope the nda might have been removed once BS went gold. I didn't know the specific rules in this case about when an nda could be lifted.;) Flyby out
  22. I'll wait because I'm bilingual, but only in English!:D Flyby out
  23. OK, I'm hoping the NDA is lifted and the beta testers can now give us some insights worth drooling over. How about it beta testers? Sound off!!! Flyby out
  24. rgrt Fodder... another good review BUT! It's really hard to select a card when you view such tests. The thing that really bunches my shorts is seeing how cards jockey back and forth for the top slots depending on the game being tested. Crysis seems to favor Nvidia cards generally speaking though at the highest resolutions 2GPUs with 1 or more ghz of memory seem to surge ahead (mostly). OK maybe bad example, but cards with different architectures, all else being equal, seem to trade on the performance lead. It's obvious that it would be best to select the card that performs best on the games that you play. But what if you're trying to put together a system in advance of a sim that's not out yet? Well, good thing most combat flight sims are cpu-bound. So far a good dual core at 3.0ghz seems to be a good starting point. All the better if that cpu can be oc'd to 3.6ghz. Modern gpus seem to have the ballz to render most games at decent rates, being only limited by memory speed (especially important at higher resolutions). Well that's how I see it. But you guys straighten me out where needed. OK?:smartass: Flyby out PS I'd like to run Oleg's Storm of War_BoB with lots of eye candy, and really decent fps (like a minimum of 28fps). I know. "Dream on, Flyby". :P Imagine trying to get decent frame rates in Black Shark with all the goodies maxed out!
  25. good find! that's a great article, one of the best I've read about the 4870-1gb card. thanks for posting the link!
