FF, I see what you mean about detecting stealth a/c. One never knows if the specs released to the public are intentionally off by over or under-stating the truth. But I suspect most nations are involved in some sort of spying that attempts to ferret out the facts and share them only with security types. Hype is for public consumption, I guess. Boberro, I haven't looked into the production expectations for this Su. I wonder if that figure depends on the amount of export business that can expected? Also, with oil prices down, I'm not sure Vladimir has the cash flow to build Russian forces willy-nilly, though I had read that Russia has increased it's funding to rebuild and modernize it's armed forces. I wouldn't call it a cold war if it were rebuilding. Russia let it's armed forces lapse, if you believe what was written. Also, given the size of the U.S military budget, I think Russia could spend a fraction of that and reach near parity. Why? Because by the time all the money-grubbing sorts get their piece of America's military budget everything is way over-priced. That's just my opinion. ;) BTW, I think that sotry some years ago about a $600.00 toilet seat was really money diverted to secret ops. I think that's how these ops are partially funded; appear to pay too much for a toilet seat, a hammer, cooking oil, etc. Again, just my uninformed opinion. Flyby out

if any info will help, then I'll add a bit. But first I have to tell you that I have never owned an X52. I am a Cougar owner. I am a fan of this hotas primarily because of it's program-ability through it's Foxy software. There are downsides to it: The springs are stiff, the build quality of the joystick internal has been lacking. I've sent away for replacement parts, and had to replace or clean the pots. Still, it's a honking big unit, made of metal, and feels good in my hand. I can program it to do just about anything, so complete is the software. It can be complex to program some functions, but there is plenty of help at Frugalsworld.com. GO here for all things Cougar: http://cougar.frugalsworld.com/ Also, there are plenty of expensive modifications that can be made to the Cougar, and many people have done so rather than switch to another brand of hotas. Heck, I even had a chance to buy a second one, brand new in the box some time ago. I did not pass that up. It's still in the box, just waiting. But I'm sure the X52 is a fine stick. Someone here is probably using the X52 with Black Shark, and enjoying it immensely. Good luck which ever way you go. Flyby out

This is an interesting article about the Su-35. A nice read, it claims the radar can detect low-observable, and stealth a/c. Interesting. No? Here's the link: http://www.airforce-technology.com/projects/su-35/ Enjoy! Flyby out

another link to info on the Larrabee. Seems like you have a very good point of view on this one, NightHawk. http://news.cnet.com/8301-13512_3-10006184-23.html

After Action Reports for anyone who's interested...
Flyby replied to Pizzicato's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
It would be great to see a Black Shark AAR section here at DCS. Perhaps Pizzicato could be the grand PooBaah of AAR stories here? I read your AARs at SimHq and thought they were very well done, evry good reads. I'm hoping your work will inspire a trend here. ;) Flyby out -
Hi NightHwak, I'm not quite sure I understand your reply. Do you refer to Havoc and PhysX from the card makers? Maybe that's it. If so I tend to think that Intel offers the more exquisite solution, if the paper is to be believed. I'm no techie on such things, but Intel seems to explain Larrabee's architecture well enough for me to see that it's addressing my (very focused) concerns about smooth gameplay in combat flight sims. If true, Havoc and PhysX may still be viable, but less so for sim producers. Then gamers won't be forced to pick one side or the other ala Crossfire or SLi (though some X58 mobos run both). I'm still waiting for things to settle out anyway. So maybe more info will be released by the time I'm ready to buy a pc? Flyby out

check out the link and see what you think. Maybe Intel is beginning to understand, and maybe the larrabee processor will be the gamers' delight? It's in pdf format: http://download.intel.com/technology/architecture-silicon/GamePhysicsOnLarrabee_paper.pdf Hope you find it interesting. Flyby out

man! you guys a re zoomin way out in front of mere mortals. I see running water on high is still a killer though. I hope that will be addressed in the new DCS engine of the future. Don't forget to post some benchmarks for Black Shark! Flyby out

Actually I just wanted to point you to a website that have a free F/A18 download. It's supposed to have complex modeling, and a 6dof click-able cockpit. There's a youtube video of a carrier landing, and while on youtube you'll find a couple other videos to give you a sense of where this free sim is. Most current version is 1.02, but the website speaks of goals for 1.03, and is even looking for a bit of help. check it out: http://www.seven-g.com/ the video link: http://kr.youtube.com/watch?v=kZospY7VXqc wouldn't it be nice if somehow DCS contacted these guys and formed a coalition? Just thinking out loud. Prolly never happen. Flyby out

nice shots, but additionally... great shots, YuYa, and thanks for posting them. I'll get Black Shark one of these days! :D Slightly OT, did anyone else peruse the Flightsim.com website? Well I found a link to a free F/A18 download from a company called Seven-G. It's model includes a click-able 6dof cockpit, and is in version1.02 at present. Certainly this free sim has a ways to go, but not so far as you might think It's best to view it and decide for yourselves. Here's a link to the site, plus a link to a youtube video. http://www.seven-g.com/ http://kr.youtube.com/watch?v=kZospY7VXqc Thanks to YuYa! Flyby out

Flying military aircraft is inherently a hazardous job. I think we only rarely hear about the true casualty rate for military aircraft in peace time. Flying combat missions only heightens the hazard. But these pilots do their duty, and some die. Perhaps there is something noble in that. Perhaps not, but at least they fly! For that alone I admire them, regardless of country. Flyby out
