  1. sorry for the double post, but there is a problem when I try to use quick reply. I hit the submit button and the little loading arrows go around and around forever, so I switch to full reply and send it. The messaeg usually posts right away then, but I get a warning that it's already been posted. I check and there is only one message. this time there were two. I don't know what's wrong.
  2. good find! been looking for a review to pop up anytime. expected it to rival the -260.

  4. Pilotasso, what sims are you flying (playiing) that your card is not maxed out? Of course that's a great system you have there! Flyby
  5. rgrt Groove, I'll have to track those results down. But I'll feel a lot better when I see BS running optimized for either Crossfire(X) or SLi mode. For that matter, I wonder if there are any combat flight sims that are (will be) optimized to use two GPUs. It is my bad fortune that all the sims I own are flight sims, and only one of them is not a combat flight sim. So for me deciding on a video card, and even a motherboard is very important. What's a body to do?:helpsmilie: Flyby out
  6. we can be happy now! Good looking out, Acedy. Impressive reads, and a big hoorah! for ATi for bringing performance in at a managable price. Allow me to contribute a bit of info too ;) http://techreport.com/discussions.x/14970 Flyby out
  7. a review update new reviews at Tom's Hardware site: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/nvidia-gtx-280,1953.html Flyby out
  8. Good looking out, Acedy.I may ask the AV8R about that card. But I'm tempted to go with a single card/gpu solution just for the reasons you state. Flyby out
  9. now let me get this straight I'd have to know that my favorite sims run smoothly in either SLi or Crossfire modes. It doesn't seem as if either mode is a blessing to work with in regards to the combat flight sims I favor . While two of this card or two of that card may out-perfrom a single GX260 (I'm not made of GX280 money) I'd rather just avoid the hassle, including needing a humungus power supply to handle two cards, and get a very good single card solution. In that arena the 260 is hard to beat. As for fan noise, I would usually have on headphones, and background noise would probably come from a set of Z5500 speakers. Who could hear a gpu fan? Also, going with Crossfire or SLi is probably best for someone running very high resolutions like 25xx X 16xx on big screen lcd monitors. Keep it at or below 24" and a 260 can handle that easily enough. Finally, it does not seem that all games scale very well in dual card mode so far as I've read. Going from one card to two does not always mean going from 50-fps to 100-fps. It seems this is very game-dependent. Maybe someone can tell us how BS scales with two cards? Or even LOMAC/FC? Or IL2? Or FSX? Always willing to learn here. Flyby out
  10. Sli, Crossfire or single card? I'm waiting for more reviews of the GT260 card, as well as the new ATi 4870. It's been difficult to sort out whether or not to go SLi Crossfire, or just a good single card solution. Either of the new Nvidia cards can handle the higher resolutions in single-card configuration. I haven't found a good review of the ATi 4870 yet. I'm speculating (hoping) that card will perform close to the GT260 card. Is Crossfire any more stable than SLi? Will Black Shark scale well in either mode? That's my big concern. I've read that not all games do scale well in SLi mode. I don't know about Crossfire. Besides, I'm interested in the new Intel P45 chipset too. Can't go SLi with that chipset, only Crossfire. So again. maybe a single card solution is best for now? But depending on the chipset, when prices drop, will I get more bang for the $ if I can buy a second ATi card, or a second Nvidia card. Nvidia seems to have the relative performance edge, so eventually having two GT 260s might be a raving good decision! Oh, my head hurts thinking about it! Flyby out

  13. say what, old man? Oh, it's been tossed around here before. Believe me.;) Flyby out
  14. little blue pills aside I hope ED/DCS will be very successful for a very long time. May they make enough money on each release to finance further exciting releases. It's business, after all. Let's hope the company's business model works, and fans surge forward to buy their product. Also, somebody go kick Oleg in the @ss and tell him to "release" already. ;) Flyby out
  15. how about this for #12? How about a demonstration of the Ka-50 flight model in an acrobatic mode? This could show the fidelity of the FM to the real bird. Maybe even do that spiral-down manuever firing rockets at a target from directly above? Inside views and outside views. Might be a nice show to put on, just before release. Have grown men lose bladder control at what they see, and can't wait to try: "Uh-oh! I feel like I got to pee!!!";)
  16. a tough call I wouldn't know which to bet on in that case! Well, maybe I'd have to go with BS being released first.;) More of a vested intererst in chopping the air into submission!:) Flyby out
  17. and so we move closer still Things seem to be going quite well at ED (erectile dys...gotta change that one day). Another great update, more drool, and the clock keeps winding down to release time. Maybe we could spice things up a little? How about a contest to see who guesses the correct release date? In case of a tie, the first received correct guess takes the prize. Maybe an autographed copy? Oh wait. nevermind. It's the meds kicking in.:music_whistling: Flyby out
  18. Thanks for that GGT. I guess the BS is sort of like a sniper in that once detected it may be easily defeated in a modern battlefield. But it has to be detected. Also, a shout-out to Ferocious Imbecile. I think I misunderstood your original post in this thread. Sorry about that.;) Flyby out btw, Highwayman I like your thinking!
  19. thanks for chiming in Wags So, though deep penetration strikes are not the forte of the Ka-50, at least farps could be placed and specifically outfitted within the ME. That is very cool. I knew I was on to something! :music_whistling: btw, anyone care to comment on why the Black Shark has tank-busting capability, but is considered an a/c for low-intensity action? I guess it will be unrealistic to place the BS in the modern battlefield ala LOMAC. Flyby out
  20. well I'm all done in. Nothing to do but wait for the release and see how things shake out. It's been an interesting discussion though, with the varying points of view about mission-making, et al. Thanks to all for your feedback. Good stuff. Flyby out
  21. With the Black Shark, think in terms of a deep penetration surprise attack. Greater chance for survival, hopefully. Maybe it could be a co-op that was prearranged as well. I don't know for sure, but all ideas are welcome. Besides, good misison planning should include keeping your causalties down. Don't ya think? I guess it would take a special committment to take on a coop mission that lasts an hour. Maybe the key trigger for such a mission would be it's success or. Imagine it: the mission fails and hordes of enemy assests swamp your feba then your borders. You might survive, but the desperation factor might be quite high, knowing what's at stake. Just tossing out thoughts. I'm sure each will do what's in his/her best interests. Flyby out
  22. Well I intend to try... F.I. I'm not a beta tester, so I asked the question about the scenario. When I get my hands on the sim I'll certainly try my hand at building a deep penetration misison. Like everyone new to the sim I'll have to learn the miossion editor. Wags answered "yes" to all my questions about such missions, at least it's doable. The key issue of this thread is that such missions can be made. Who makes them is not so important, you see. I belong to an IL2 squadron (99th_Flyby), and I made many missions for them. Usually the missions were of a desperate nature, and difficult to win without taking "ferocious" losses. My squadies took to calling them "Die_by" missions. ;). Oh, one thing I will add is about a mission I made for the Battle fo Midway. It was a long coop, taking off from carriers, and all that. Some didn't take enough fuel, and ran out along the way. Many just quit the coop because it was taking too long to get to the action. The lesson laid on me was that the average online pilot didn't want long flights to the action. But at least I know it's doable in Black Shark. as for how many might want to try it as a coop...I have no idea. Finally I don't know the answer to your questions yet. Maybe Wags or some ED tester can chime in. But let me ask you; are you going to make such missions? Flyby out
  23. hey GGT, now let me get this straight... what is the time period for Black Shark anyway? I'm sure i missed it somewhere, so a little help, please? With talk about the A10C I guess it's fairly recent history we're looking at, like later than the mid nineties? Maybe 2003? thanks, Flyby out
  24. me thinks... we're gonna get banned if this line of talk continues!:P you guys know how to get a man off topic! I'm usually so serious! Flyby out
