Viper, could you please share which driver version are you using for your 5870, and if you got a significant performance hit after 1.0.0.9 (warthog)? This might very well be a driver issue or something, as I've seen a lot of reports claiming a BIG performance hit that came with 1.0.1.0 (dynamics cockpit shadows, tree shadows introduced in this patch IIRC?), and I experienced the same. I had around 38fps in 1.0.0.9 with my 5850.

If they were to drop everything and make a new engine from the ground up, they would become another microprose, only this time there will be no one left to step up, and we will be playing hawx for the next decade or two.

Your CPU is slow, as is mine, and the graphic card isn't the very best one either. Do not expect to get > 30fps anywhere after all that's 4-5 years old hardware, but then again 30fps is playable IMO. DCS begs for high frequency CPU. :(

No. Here's why. I'm a student, in my country average income per person is less than 300e (400$) monthly. For me the price is already high because I don't have any steady income, but I hand-pick only the simulations I will be using. You have to understand that people also leave outside the US and EU with unemployment rate of 25-30% and very poor country-wide standard, and they still love DCS. I agree that DCS products are worth a lot more that Call of Duty and similar games, but If ED is to make corrections to the prices, it has to be very careful about it, and make regions with different prices, or they will inevitably lose customers from these countries.

Might be a stupid question, but are you using LR - laser rangefinder (shift-o default AFAIK)?

True, you just have to compare FC2 A10A with DCS A10C, it takes a lot more time to master the later, but when you do it it simplified version becomes a completely outclassed.
