  1. Where is this "Quick Start" manual found? I do have the Flight manual download. I printed out pages 116 thru 134. Hopefully this will be sufficient for the basics of getting into the air and flying the pattern and landing. My controls are basically setup, but I am sure my settings preferences will change over time. I fly in full sim, no shortcuts, that way I do not have to relearn. Of course I die a lot. So, now time to do the training startup video tutorial. Thanks for this thread.
  2. Nice! I am loving it. DCS just gets better and better. Have a nice day :)
  3. My previous post buried within the P-51 forum: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=1449786#post1449786 My message #12. The author of message #14, I think has it about right, sounds good, anyway. Thanks for any insight.
  4. I would think, at high speeds, the outer propeller tips would come closer to the sound barrier before the rest of the plane would. It must have happened on occasion. Ramifications to this? At the time, 'Nam era, the F-4 fascinated me. I built a big model of it. Years later I read about the adjustable, jet engine intake doors to prevent sound barrier caused jet engine stalls caused by the shock wave entering that area.
  5. I am looking for somebody to post their one page, condensed version, of the pre-start-up and start-up sequence. But I will be probably toughing it out making up my own.
  6. I was to Pennsylvania's Hershey Park's flower garden with my ladies, bored out of my mind, on a very windy day. Wind is just varying air pressure differences. This garden overlooked a small, private airport. Every plane coming in over the runway, came in pretty fast, much faster than I would think would be possible. No accidents that day. I observed on a hill for a couple of hours. They had fun, I had fun.
  7. I know all this stuff from flying, "Aces High" for 5 years. But I suspect the DCS: P-51 is going to be a heck of a lot more realistic than that sim/game. And Aces High incorporates these effects within their takeoff portion of their game engine. Aces High: If I land to refuel, I have to taxi, and take-off manually for another sortie, not re-spawning a new plane. It is very easy to become a messy spot on the runway of blood, guts, oil, and gas and toasty barbeque!
  8. Preload Radius: Definition Please (GUI Manual) Hi, I see no GUI manual, yet. Or I have not found it, yet. I did find the P-51 Flight Manual and downloaded it. I downloaded the pre-purchase files successfully, then purchased it Friday, May 4th, morning wee hours. My CH .map Profile for Aces High nicely fits this and I am in the process of modifying the profile. I remove all the shortcuts and cheats. I want to fly my machine as realistically as possible. =================================== What is "Preload Radius"? What is its settings' function? =================================== I am hoping DCS has its answer before trudging through Google. I did do a search within the P-51 forums. Thus this thread resulted. It is an adjustable slider, right, upper, quadrant, within the Options, SYSTEM, drop-down tab. The question was asked here within this thread previously, but NOT answered. I am waiting patiently for an answer. Thank you. Cheers.
  9. Sometimes I deliberately get into a really bad spin just to confuse the guy on my six and give him a harder target to hit. The really good jocks, this won't phase one bit. Yeah, once not spinning, easy out to level and power on easy does it, as to the torque of the engine not reintroducing you into another spin. Performance differs at various altitudes. There should be performance charts the engineers proofed before ever releasing it past the test pilots to the military. I am really interested how this baby is going to perform. Like the 1st time I got the rotors on the Black Shark spinning from a cold start. Well, I got it installed, now to go purchase it.
  10. Thank you. Yep, just found it here, the 1st post, down a little ways: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=87391
  11. I have one more module to download and currently doing so. There are 3 .bin (World) modules and one (World) .exe file. Separately there is a P-51 .exe file. How is this installed? I figure to install the World .exe which should get the .bin modules into place, then add the P-51 .exe Is this correct? Since all 5 files go into one folder, which .exe initiates the download sequence? Or is it one, then the other? (I did do a this forum search for "Installing" and did not see my questions answered.) Thanks for any help.
  12. I don't know. I felt here was a good place to get attention. I did not mean anything negative by it. They can delete it, I don't care. Go for it.
  13. How about implementing a kill-shooter so if friendlies accidently "kill" teamates, fratricide, unintentionally, I end up back on the tarmac or in the Spectator room instead of killing the other guy? How much trouble would that be to implement? Banning people for accidental shootings seems a bit harsh and really not necessary.
  14. When I was a kid in school, mid-1960s, there used to be a magazine titled, "Air Progress" in the USA. The ads in the back of the magazine always had many sources of super-8mm films to purchase as to the WWII era. I bet all that stuff is somewhere to buy, remastered on DVDs. I bet Google knows. I used to have URL links of some great videos, but the sites went kaput.
  15. Two guys that are real CH gurus are the guy named Crunch here and to LockOn is quite the CH programmer into scripts and Shift commands to get more buttons out of the CH Control Manager. Bob Church is the guy to CH Hanger for help and Revin and a guy named Ghost which I suspect is Crunch. Konkussion here was very helpful to me with the Warthog, but I have not seen him posting in quite awhile. I created my own .map based on my Aces High profile for the CH Control Manager for the P-51D out of necessity. I modified it and renamed it specific for DCS World. I am not too fond of Track IR 5, but I allowed for it. If I pause TIR5, I then can use my view hats instead, and if I want, jump back to TIR5. My CH gear is Fighterstick, PT and PP all USB. Konkussion helped me the most with DCS. I use the Black Shark profile by Crunch that works for BS1 and BS2 and he or somebody gave me a mess of tutorials learning about the Control Manager, but I am still a novice at it. If I can do it, anybody can.
  16. Yep, me too, not on my gaming PC. I only run the Windows freebie. Norton 360 Premiere is the best I have tried and never lost a hard drive in 3 years of using it, but not on my gaming PC, its a hog.
  17. In real life---GOOD EYESIGHT! I really do not like the identifier crutches most sims use to tell who the enemy is. Knowing the enemy's plane silhouette and a bit closer its markings. A true blue sim fighter never goes on the head-on with 1st pass, we are supposedly gentlemen in the air. I rarely see that practiced, though. Keep your TV screen clean of spit and food left-overs. What you may see as enemy may in fact be a little bit of you. LOL! Not to worry, no enemy aircraft, yet, just some really fast missiles.
  18. (1) Chop throttle (2) Stick forward (3) Opposite rudder as to the spin direction. is the usual recovery fix-it. I don't know how they model this thing, yet. I am currently downloading it. My other WWII sim, I have a throttle button to also cut power in flight. This sim, restarting after killing the engine, I do not know how easy it is to restart the engine. I am sure any aircraft given the improper parameters can go into a flat spin, at which time, you will be lucky to get out of the plane at all. One of the Spits is notorious for snap stalls. I always come in pretty fast with a P-51D and right at the end of the runway for plenty of room to roll out. Nice and easy does it braking. The Corsair has a really nasty tail wheel that needs to be locked pretty soon after landing on a runway without tailhook, just put stick back into your lap. I have not found this to be true with the P-51D in the other sims I have flown. Most of the USA WWII fighters were boom and zoomers, not turn fighters. Keep your E or suffer the consequences!
  19. As long as BS1 works with FC2 or 3, I will be happy.
  20. I found A-10C Warthog to Best Buy on the shelf locally, couple days after Christmas 2011 in NY State. It was a lot cheaper than the $60 I paid for the 1st non-beta release A-10C. They had 3 boxes on the shelf. I bought one. So, I purchased it again just so installing it on my new PC only required one update patch and then the additional $20 purchase to get to version 1.1.1.1 . Best Buy.com might have more online to their online store. Also try Amazon.com . Amazon is where I found the older flight manuals. I have all the online individual purchases and patches saved both for both the 2 DCS products, but not the P-51, yet. I might just wait until they work out the bugs for the P-51 and World and buy a boxed set. The current online download will take me about 6 hours to do. But I am moody, I might download it anyway.
  21. Yeah, I don't think so, either. DCS knows what they are doing. I am sure they have studied the potential market to make profit and to keep doing so. But some of the guys replying to this thread are assuming without any real knowledge of what really goes on in the other sim/games. Everything that has been said as negative, actually does or did happen in each of the games I mentioned, as to your last stated sentence. I have both sims, I play both. The problem I have is mental overload. Just how many planes and different moves and sims can be memorized in an aging brain? DCS and Aces High is enough for me. I came in late. I am just learning FC2. I do not wish to cause any verbal grief.
  22. That has to be expensive. But I <S> you for the effort.
  23. Well, they ain't all kids. At least half are cussin' adults from southern USA and then the seniors, like me, that may be interpreted as worse than the kids! :) That's what they get for advertising on the Military Channel, retired vets. I'm looking. Waiting for the 104th server to reappear. I am a member with them, just not a squaddie, yet. Last summer, spent quite awhile with the S77th, but I have not seen them here in awhile. They play World of Tanks which I do not like. Aces High has better tanking wars. I have TS3. I had TARS last year but there was a glitch with it with TS3 so the S77th quit using it. It is probably fixed by now. I had 2 hurricanes come into our area last fall that kind of messed up my gaming time. I do find the sim combat missions here rather boring. What is fun is learning the intricacies of the various aircraft. I personally prefer a scoring system and capturing the flag. The world is a big marketplace. There are lots of people out there and lots of variation to a theme. It is like tribe mentality. Guys there knock this place; guys here knock them. It is all good. There are a few Aces High guys here that are going to kick butt with the P-51 guys that do not know basic aerial combat as I have seen already with a recent YouTube video. As to a realistic simulator, I am learning the Ka-50 lately. There are a few items that just plain do not function. So how real, is real? Anybody wants a real, math/physics oriented, boring simulator, fly Orbiter. But boring is also relative. Actually it can be quite interesting to dock a rotating spaceship in sync with a rotating space station like in the movie, 2001 Space Odyssey, and like in Orbiter.
