  1. I assume you are referring to the incident at China Lake. ZJ943 was never operated by XI Sqn. It was painted for XI Sqn so when 17 Sqn were finished with it as a trials aircraft it was going to transfer to XI Sqn. It never did as they crashed it! Para 4 of Part 1.2 of https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/508212/20160301-Typhoon_ZJ943_BOI-final.pdf explains it. "DXI" was the Bosses aircraft and probably the most synonymous with XI Sqn as there was a "DXI" when the squadron was Tornado F3 as well.
  2. Another thing I have spotted is internal fuel capacity. This model holds 4200kg but I'm fairly sure the real aircraft held 5600kg internally and a further 1000 liters per external tank.
  3. I worked on this actual airframe when it was with XI Sqn as DZ. Wasn't wearing such a smart suit in them days.
  4. Typhoon Flight Control laws are very complex. No desk top simulator will do them justice. In the real aircraft you when you move the stick only the Flaperons move. The Foreplanes are used by the FCS to give the pilot the demanded rate of pitch and no more. They are used for pitch stability control. What the guys have achieved here is much better than any other Typhoon model in any PC simulator I have seen and I'll be very surprised if HB do any better with the one they are making.
  5. That is exactly what they should do. Oh, by the way, we call them Foreplanes. Canards are French The Flaperons are used for pitch and role control and the Foreplanes for stability control.
  6. So the W key bind doesn't work on this? Half an FC3 cockpit doesn't half make for some confusion! Parking brake removed and now taxying is normal. A couple of other things I have also noticed, and you might already be aware. I have rudder pedals bound and when I move the right/left foot forward the aircraft turns the correct way but the cockpit animation of the pedals moving is reversed. Also, the left and right wheel brake axis don't seem to do anything.
  7. I meant no criticism. I have inside knowledge of the RAF Typhoon force and was just making sure you had the info you needed to end up with an accurate livery. On a different subject, does anyone else need 99% engine power to start moving on the ground or is that just me?
  8. Good attempt but you have a 1435 Flt badge on the fin and IX Sqn fighter bars on the fuselage and the FI emblem is missing from just in front of the strake.
  9. The F-18 doesn't NEED a carrier. Just ask the Canadians, Finnish, Swiss, Malaysians, Australians and I'm sure I have missed some.
  10. Thank for the reply but as I said above, that file is still in the same place it just doesn't contain the full list of nicknames that appear in the dropdown list in the MP selection screen so I think stuff must have moved on in 3 years, I just don't know where to. Edit, I deleted the nicknames.lua file but the list of nicknames with the typos still appears in game so that file has nothing to do with it now.
  11. I know this is a really old thread but lately it has become an issue for me. My nickname list if full of typos and the nicknames.lua file, although still there, has none of the typos stored in it so DCS must store these nicknames somewhere else now. Any ideas where? I am on Open Beta.
  12. I've been involved in APCs at Akrotiri on both Phantoms and Tornado F3 between 1982 and 2005 and there was never any air to surface gunnery carried out. We only fired against airborne targets, always against a towed banner initially by 100sqn Canberra's and latterly by 100Sqn Hawks. Air to ground gunnery was practiced at Donna Nook range or Tain range in the UK and were against targets on the beach. Shooting against targets on the sea surface is fraught with ricochet danger as water surface tension is harder than people think. I was also on Typhoon between 2005 and 2018 and during that time it never trained in air to air gunnery.
  13. Afraid not I was on a MP server. 104th.
  14. I tried a search to see if anyone else is having this issue but it none of the search criteria produced results. The Problem. Since 2.7 whenever I go near a target area with lots of shacked ground units my FPS tanks. You can see from the signature my machine is not short of grunt but my FPS drops to low teens (I saw 10 the other day) but if I turn my head and look the other way the FPS comes back up to somewhere near normal for the server/mission I am in. I don’t get the same problem when the ground units are mostly intact, only when they are mostly damaged. The FPS drops as the object count (LCTRL+Pause/Break twice) rises. It is as if damaged units and or craters consist of many more objects than undamaged units! Has anyone else seen this behaviour? Any solutions?
  15. Bang, and there goes my 40 years RL experience of fighter radars!
  16. Not true IRL when using a doppler radar. Pulse yes Doppler no (or PD or FMICW or whatever your particular radar term that is used). Some radars will enter a mini search either side of the notch centre frequency in the hope that the target is not good at remaining in the notch but if it is the radar will lose it once the track memory has timed out. The notch filter removes a band of frequencies related to ground speed and has nothing to do with the strength of the received signal. It notches out the earth and that has one hell of a RCS.
  17. I have this issue with SOME modules and it turns out it only happens when VoiceAttack is running. Most annoying! If anyone else has discovered this along with a solution then please let us know.
  18. Yeah that works but also comes with it's own set of problems. I just don't understand why this only happens with the Mossie.
  19. Does anyone else have this issue? When I spawn into the Mossie my controls are full left aileron deflection until I move the actual controls. This is not a problem on a ground start but gets mighty exciting very quickly on an air start. I have checked for double bounding of the controls and there are none. I have the "Syncronise controls at mission start" set to ON but I don't know if this setting is for switches only or buttons and axis. This is the only module that does it. Any ideas?
  20. As I have now not had a CTD in the 3 weeks since I removed the faulty RAM stick I am fairly confident that was the cause of my CTDs. Next time I'm having random unrelated issues I will resort to Memtest86 sooner
  21. An update that is most probably the cause of my CTDs. I noticed that I was also getting occasional BSOD when in MSFS. I did a bit more reading and found out that errors involving nvwgf2umx.dll were related when the system was swapping data between RAM and VRAM. I also noted that although my CTDs started after DCS 2.7, I had a month before I added a further 32Gb of RAM. Everything was pointing at the RAM so I ran Memtest86 from a bootable USB and I had a failure after a few moments. Long story short, by testing each stick on their own I discovered one of the new sticks I had added was faulty. I am currently back at 32Gb and will run like that for a while to see if crashes reoccur while I wait for more RAM to arrive. I'll report back if problem persists.
  22. Can feel such an idiot some times! Not sure when that happened but thanks.
  23. I am suffering the same issue and I'm sure it was working a few days ago. It says the VAICOM profile is loaded but LCtrl-LAlt-C is having zero effect. It does however recognize the joystick hot key to listen and acts upon the commands. Any idea why I am unable to open up VAICOM config?
  24. Hi Flappie Thanks for all your efforts with this. It is sort of comforting, in a strange kinda way, to know I am not the only one with this issue. I have tried item 1 numerous times as I also get random IC failures with core DCS files! Reproducing the CTD is difficult as it is random. The last 2 I had, one was as I entered the cockpit (F-18) the second was as I was taxying and moving my head (VR). 3rd restart and got airborne with no CTD, same single player mission! I will try 2-6 and see how it goes. PS, I can zip up every crash log I have had since 2.7 and attach them here if it will help.
