How ejecting works on 2 or more seater planes?
Milli replied to Godzila's topic in Military and Aviation
In the Tornado, there is a Command Ejection lever in the rear navigators cockpit. It can be set to BOTH or REAR. When set to BOTH, either the pilot or the navigator can initate an ejection, resulting in both crew members being ejected. The navigator is ejected a fraction of a second before the pilot, regardless of who initiated the ejection. When set to REAR, both pilot and navigator will be ejected if the pilot initiates the ejection,(again, navigator first followed by the pilot). BUT, if the navigator initiates an ejection, only he/she will be ejected, leaving the pilot in the plane. As far as I know, its standard operating procedure to set it to REAR. This is because, as has happened in the past, it prevents the navigator ejecting both aircrew accidentally. During a sortie, while the navigator had his head in the office, the pilot initiated an extreme manoeuvre, at low altitude, to avoid a mid-air collision, (with an A-10 funnily enough). The navigator thought, wrongly, that the aircraft was out of control and immediately ejected. As the command ejection lever was set to BOTH, both pilot and himself were ejected. They left a perfectly flyable, multi-million pound war plane to to crash into the ground. Both aircrew were ok, but it was a bit of a cockup. Regards, Milli -
Just saw a Textron Scorpion. Posted this in the Scorpion thread: http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=2113234&postcount=13 Regards, Milli

Out walking my dogs today, heard a low level jet. So i look up and see a plane I've never seen before. No idea what it was. I noted down the time, so when I got home, I went to Flightradar24.com and put in the date and time. Hey presto, it was a Scorpion! Registration number N531TA I remember reading this thread a while back, so I thought I'd share it with you. The attachment shows that it took off from MOD Boscome Down, flew up to Snowdonia in North Wales to fly around the valleys and then back down, eventually landing at Fairford for the International Air Tattoo this weekend. So I will see it again on Saturday lol. I live in Ludlow, Shropshire (can be seen just above Hereford where the flight plan criss crosses itself). I did post of another sighting, in another thread, about how I saw a B-52 low and slow over Ludlow when I was again out walking my dogs. Didn't need flightradar24 to identify that one! Regards, Milli

Search for missing WW2 pilot - Italy/Rumania area
Milli replied to Der_Fred's topic in Military and Aviation
For five aircraft to go missing in action and their aircrew never to be seen again just shows how chaotic and horrific those times were. Her last sentence is very sad. Regards, Mill -
^^ Yep, that was LOW! Good find. Another view point here:

^^ Nice. I listened to it while browsing this forum. Regards, Milli

I'm going on Saturday. Hoping the F-35 is flying. I think i read somewhere that they have been grounded due to an engine fire. Hope not. Will be nice to see the Su-22 though. And god I wish they'd fly a Phantom sometime before they go into extinction. I hate static airplanes! Regards, Milli

Only just noticed this thread. I was a metallica nutcase from when I first heard the song Blackened, back in '88. Bought a guitar, an cheap Marlin thingy and a little marshall amp. All I played was metallica. Then i bought a Jackson Professional, black of course, and later on a 150 watt, stereo Marshall Valvestate AVT275. Oh, and a wah-wah. Played mostly thrash and hard rock stuff. Then, 2 years ago I had a major turn in direction - I bought a classical guitar! A Lag 212N Summer version. I hardly play the electric anymore. I love the classical guitar. Can play a few classical pieces now and i'm really enjoying it. I still listen to the harder stuff, slayer, metallica, pantera etc, but I'm very happy to be playing bach and beethoven et al as well. Regards, Milli

I seem to remember that the Harriers during the Falklands war used to stuff chaff into there speedbrake recess as well. Open the speed brakes and out comes the chaff.

Just look at these slender, sexy things.

F-15 Flight in Cope Thunder 1985 Very good video. Some interesting things: 1.Having chaff stored in the speedbrakes made it a little tricky to join formation at 2 minutes into video. 2.Turning the camera off because they were about to employ a classified system, at 3 minutes 50 seconds into video. What do you think it was? 3. Use of hand signals to change frequencies etc. 4.Lots of high G.

It was a turkish F-16. Actually, it was a little more than a close call, she hit the top of the mosque and bent the spire. http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-aurWy1eJQXY/ULj0KaCokYI/AAAAAAAAOLI/h7Xj3gDPKck/s1600/LiveLeak-dot-com-3720afae7ae7-alem_erdoga_ucak.jpg http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-29Xqd-ihiP8/ULjtLlJgyUI/AAAAAAAAOKc/xWsf-dKkQwc/s1600/esh3547_4.jpg Cool.
