What version of the Su-27 is in REAL use??
Cobra360 replied to Stratos's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
The Russian Knights have around 5 or so Su-35s. -
Anyone know what this is on the F-15?
Cobra360 replied to Cobra360's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
There are no new built F-15C/Ds. Only the F-15Ks and F-15SGs are are in production now. The are 18 F-15Cs equiped with the APG-63V2 AESA, based in Alaska. They have AK tail codes. The USAF F-15Es are due to start recieving the APG-63V3 AESA from the end of this year. Around 100 USAF F-15C/Ds are due to get the V3 air to air only from 2008. -
I have seen a few pictures of F-15s that have a small cube, maybe a new IFF probe on top of the nose just before the start of the radome. Anybody know what it is. I have not seen any F-15Es with them, only in recent F-15Cs and MSIP F-15As. The Superhornet also has a flat rectangle buldge on top of it's nose which I assume to be some sort of IFF antenna.

NEW PICS! Is that an AIM-9?
Cobra360 replied to warthogmadman987's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Sorry about that. It should have read that the P is 170lbs, lighter than the L/Ms which are 180-185lbs. -
Yep, they are the stats in a World Combat Aircraft feature on the Flanker back from 1999. It had a almost complete stats page on the Flanker, empty weights, fuel weights etc. Thats the same internal fuel as F-15A but a little less than the F-15C. It must be a massive tank, its tank no.4 in the centre of the airframe, just behind the airbrake and extending halfway down between the engines.

Well I know for a fact that the AIM-9Ps are 170lbs lighter than the L/Ms. They can also be use on Spanish Mirage F-1s if and when the F-1 mod goes wide spread. -

I hope ED make it smokeless like the real AIM-9P3, because looking at the screenies they have gone for P3 model. -
Wouldn't it be nice to have a Phyton 4 Mod ?
Cobra360 replied to a topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Well, seeing how the current guidance systems are in Lomac, it would just give the player a larger launch window. But I see your point, in Falcon 4 if a R-73 gets fired at me now I usually just eject even before it hits because I know it will hit me 80% of the time regardless of what I do:D -

Yeah, Python 4/5 or AIM-9X. Will never happen though. Or the IRIS-T for European F-16 MLUs and German F-4Fs. One day, I'm confident ED will have them in some sort of long term future project. -
Get one of those nodding toy ducks filled with water as used in the Simpsons. :D Press Y, and Y again, Y,Y,Y....... :D.

F-14 tribute movie anyone?
Cobra360 replied to Glowing_Amraam's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
The Libya vid is on patrick's site. It skims over the mission quickly with some commentary and a little radio chatters. The visiuals were just put in except for the HUD footage of one of the kills, I think anyway. I could be a target drone kill. -
Think of the poor A-10, it's max speed is a little above the stall speed of the KC10 and 135. Realistically the A-10 can only be refueled from below 15K, usually 8,000ft if it has a serious loadout.

Just a little RL comment, in OIF heavily armed F-15Es had to use afterburner to stay on the boom when the tankers had to fly above bad weather. The rate rate at which they were burning fuel and recieving must have been mad. Tankers pump fuel at 3,000lbs per min down the boom for fighters.

From 1.1 you can have up to six different smoke colours. You can select them from the weapon loadout screen and place the smoke pods on the pylons you want.

I feel the tailslide to be very scripted in Lockon but its very easy to perform, just pull up to around 90 degrees and bring the throttles back to idle and apply just a little rudder to counter the nose slice.

OT: F-22A Raptor goes operational
Cobra360 replied to BladeLWS's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
But somehow I don't think eight F-15s and 8 F-16s will cut it this time, looking at the SAM systems Iran now has in place. That was a very gutsy sortie the Israeli's pulled off against the Osiraq plant. -
I was just a joke, a poor one at that. :D

The last numbers I seen for maintenance were in the region of 45-50 hours maintence per flight hour for the Tomcat vs 10-15 for the Super Slug. The Tomcat would need a missile like the Meteor to be a viable military asset as a fleet air defender. But when all the worlds oil runs out we can all point, and blame the Super Airbrake sponsored be Texaco.

A Navy Typhoon and buliding the two new RN carries with STOBAR equipment would have been a better option IMO. Instead of going with updated versions of the same type of carriers and F-35Bs. The Rafale M seems to be going well for France, even though they currently only have 10 Rafale M F1s. IMO France will have better force projection ability with it's two new carries and 2 Rafale M F3 airwings than the RN will with it's two new carriers and 2 F-35B airwings. But at the end of the day its all about money and politics.

OT: F-22A Raptor goes operational
Cobra360 replied to BladeLWS's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Really now, please tell us more. The Typhoon has never left Europe except to go for trials in Singapore for their fighter competition and the F-22 has never flown outside US airspace. So unless the Atlantic Ocean has shrunk by 2,000 miles, I can't see how that event ever happened. -
The F-35B USMC is limited to 1000lbs bombs internal, not 500lbs. And there has recently been talk that the F-35A may be canceled and instead the F-35C will be modified to a landbased only version for the USAF, while remaining the same as it has been for the USN. The F-35C is less agile and has a lower G limit than the F-35A but the C has more range. I'm not sure how true the report that the A will be cancelled in favour of a land-based C version is.
