  1. I did not know about the current state of the SM-2 until I saw your post which only showed up for me after I posted mine. AFAIK they were still Block IIs. I don't stay that current with the latest Naval weapons.
  2. Now all they have is Phalynx, and possibly if they modify the SM-2 and Sea Sparrow missiles. No more Tomcat or 54 anymore. Just saw D-Scythe's post pop up now.:D.
  3. The AIM-54C and C+ were designed to target cruise missiles. And in early tests the AIM-54A recoreded 17G while engaging ''hard turning fighters''. Suppose 17G was good for a missile of it's size but not by modern standards.
  4. You've gotta see the Mirage F1 in Chad vid. A lot of guts and skill in there.
  5. Current F-22 pilots are ex F-15 and 16 drivers, they already have lots of BFM training and experience. They will not let a new pilot fly the 22 for at least a year yet. There is a high chance that the Hornet pilot is an ex F-14 pilot. IIRC VF-11 converted to the Superhornet aound a year ago. Both pilots, I would say are experienced in BFM, but mybe not so in their current airframes.
  6. Same for the Su-27/33. It's one of those small little details that does not really effect the sim so why bother type of things. But it has been nagging me a tiny bit from day one. But the way I look at it, it's just eye candy for perfectionists:D At this point in the development of Lockon, who cares really. There are other things that need a lot more attention.
  7. ''The F-4, proof that even a brick can fly if you put a big enough engine on it, and the F-4 took two!'' ''Every F-4 takes off with two in-flight emergencies, 1: its on fire and 2: it's low on fuel.'' Just though I throw in those quotes from two former USN pilots.
  8. The flares are only released in pairs in lockon. It would be nice to have the option to decide what kind of counter-measure loadout you want though like in JF/A-18. In F4 you can fully customise 4 pre-set chaff/flare release programs to run when you press the release button. I don't know if Russian jets have a similar system IRL but looking at the displays the Swifts and Knights put on, I think they do.
  9. I,ve never heard of or seen ''The Hollow Men'' before.
  10. More of a Holy Grail and Life of Brian fan myself. Love the ''African and Europen Swallow'' part.
  11. I think the Su-30MKI would have a go at that. Not saying that it would be better but would give Raptor a run for it's money. In the close in slow speed BFM. Some of the things the MKI does, I don't think the Raptor can do. 2D v 3D vectoring? I think that kill record is 105+.
  12. Yeah, with the F-22 most ''enemy'' airforces will think, where's the point. Sure hell it's nearly like that now with the F-15.
  13. The 1,000ft rule depends on pilot experience IIRC. It can be as low as 500ft is some cases I think. BTW: what kind of inflation rate is there in the US,:D last I saw the F-22 had a flyaway cost of $120 million. What happened?, someone drop the ''A'' and add a cool 200 mil to the price.:D
  14. It's also proof that G-force is not the be all and end all. Some people look down on the Hornet as it has a 7.5 limit compared to 9 of almost all modern frontline fighters. This Hornet is only pulling 1.8 but it's AoA is nearly 20 degrees, not high considering is can fly at 65 degrees AoA. The Raptor pilot could have been having a bad day, who knows. There could have been more than one Hornet. Remember the last time a Raptor was ''shot down'' was in a 4 on 1 with F-16s. The Raptor pilot said he lost track of the last one.
  15. Just thought I show this story here. Proof that a fighter is only as good as the pilot flying it, within reason of course.:D Below is a HUD pic from an F/A-18F of VFA-11 (VF-11) ex Tomcat squadron. Yes thats right, thats an F-22 in the gun pipper. Story link below. http://www.alert5.com/2006/04/fa-18f-guns-down-f-22a.html
  16. Not forgetting the weapons pylons. The MiG-29K (9-31) or (9-41) has 8 while the SMT has 6 but I think it can be fitted with 8 at a customers request. Plus the K has sligher higher rated engines with emergency takeoff power for a very limited time and as a big plus in my eyes, smokeless combusters in the engines. :D The new K (9-41) has an improved jammer that is built into the wingtips and carries more internal fuel that the SMT while still not looking like it has a fat spine. Only down side to the K is it's G limit has been lowered to +8, but this can be over-ridden by the pilot. I really like the look of the MiG-29KUB (9-47) thats based on the M2. It'd be really nice to fly that fully modeled some day.
  17. I,ve just noticed there is no buttons around the LCD on the right.
  18. But the F-16C have more powerful engines than the Alpha's to compensated for the weight. But in saying that the USN use F-16A/Bs for aggressor training. I saw the Equnox programme on TV a good few year sback and it was about G-LOC. It showed the USAF pilot sustaining 12G with the Combat Edge anti-g system which was new at the time. With the old G-suit he was just about holding 9.
  19. Nothing was said about BVR, it was mainly close in DACT.
  20. The UTG is actually a bit less than a T.:D Beefed up landing gear, two cockpits, carrier ILS and a hook. Every time I get the T on deck I usually break the nose gear as it rolls up the ski ramp.
  21. The Su-25UTG does land on the Kuz. It has no weapons systems, it's only to teach pilots how to land on the Kuz. The current 25T we have now could be modified with a hook to become the UTG but the devs probably see no point as it has no weapons. But I can see it would not bother you, Mizzy.
  22. Nice one, never noticed to count the wing pylons on the MFD.:D Looks better and more advanced than the MKI cockpit IMO. IIRC the MKK avonics is all Russian based while the MKI is based on Russian, French and Israeli systems.
  23. I think he ment one of the fastest climbing interceptors. A Lightning even out climbed some of the F-15 Streak Eagle's best times. And yes the P-42, stripped down Su-27 beat those times completly.
  24. I saw this pic in one of the Russian threads and was wondering is this the cockpit form the Su-27SMK or the Su-30MKK? Possiblly the MKK-2 or MKK-3. Looks really nice, all it needs is a more modern single piece glass HUD with less frame.
  25. It was actually Combat Aircraft, Vol 6, No.5 not AFM, sorry.
