Better variety of clouds and weather..
jwflowersii replied to RaceFuel85's topic in DCS Core Wish List
I feel like a better weather system would enhance the simulation. Turbulence, cloud cover which affects the tactical situation should all be modeled. -
Warthog afterburner detent from Shapeways arrived
jwflowersii replied to sobe's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
I'm amazed at how many Warthog owners don't realize there is a Afterburner detent underneath the plate. If you don't know, you unscrew the plate in between the throttle levels and you can pull out a red plastic piece and flip it around and now you have a lift gate. If you file it, you can push through it. I chose to buy the one above so I still had one that wasn't filed. -
Flight Model Change in 8/15 Open Beta update?

Speedbrakes and G's -
I still haven't seen it yet. Vulkan may very well become the next standard, but adoption has been slow due to hardware support not being as mature. Without extreme care, creating games off of low-level APIs can be disastrous in the wrong developer's hands. I will take a wait and see approach. Right now even DirectX 12 hasn't taken root, but it does offer some intriguing features. Honestly, it will be the next generation of consoles that I believe will determine the direction for the next gen graphics API.
-
I understand the excitement of Vulcan, but in my experience open source projects don't necessarily have the best track record when it comes to support. The vendors will always try to differentiate their products. Just look at OpenGL, it never superseded DirectX.
-
Does Vulcan support Real Time Raytracing at the moment? I haven't heard of it. DirectX 12 does.
-
Hmm, that's why most AAA games still utilize DirectX 12. You can support both and Vulcan is still not fully developed for NVidia. It may someday be better, but not yet. Let me guess what video card you own.
-
I know they're working on Vulcan, but many engines work with both APIs. Also, Vulcan is currently not optimized for NVidia cards and runs slower. https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/950002/geforce-1000-series/lower-fps-using-vulkan-api-in-doom-/ Be careful for what you wish for.

Curious if there are any plans for the next-gen graphics cards (NVidia RTX 2080 and DirectX 12) real-time raytracing support? As always, I really love your products and keep up the great work.

The issue is CPU when it comes to single player missions. Why multithreading solves some issues, it's hard to do concurrent operations when other operations are dependent on each other. CPU is still a major blocker in a lot of complex sims and games. I was hoping to have 5Ghz processsors by now, but alas they went multi-threaded and reduced thermal output.
-
In regards to Vulcan API, will there be an option to run say DirectX 12 as I believe the Vulcan API currently runs slower on NVidia cards. I"m sure this will change in the future, but from benchmarks and articles it seems AMD cards fair better (they developed after all), but I'm worried about a decrease in performance for NVidia hardware.

I wish there was a way to record multiplayer tracks that could be locked for a few days so that we could review them. It would be really helpful on servers such as the 104th to learn from.

Will we see the SA page on the DDI implemented? Thanks.

Radar Modeling of Atmospheric Effects
jwflowersii replied to jwflowersii's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Thanks for the information, and great product BTW. It's provided years of enjoyment. Thank you for all the hardwork. -
ED Team, Does the radar code take into consideration environmental factors such as diffusion, attenuation, and inversion if you're adding humidity to the engine? Also, do you simulate radar horizon based on curvature of the earth? Thanks for any information!

Oooh, I would love to do some fire retardant drops, but they need to implement a better weather and thermal system to really make it interesting.

That's awesome! VR is like the first 3D graphics cards experience when I was younger. It opened up a whole new world. The pixel density is my most pressing upgrade, field of view second, and then some way of interacting with objects via your hands. Once they get those items solved, I believe VR will skyrocket in the way gaming consoles did. The cost of hardware is a limiting factor, but I believe foveated rendering with eye tracking will reduce the hardware requirements for higher pixel densities. With all that being said, as a former pilot myself the possibilities are endless in training scenarios, procedures, and just all out fun factor. If DCS can get ATC, real world weather, and the whole earth as a base, this series can take off. Not only in flight simulations, but other simulations such as ships and ground combat. The PBR is the best I've seen in any simulator and closest to real-world lighting. I've ejected multiple times, just to land and walk around the environment. Although, adding some rocks and grass would be nice, and some missions to rescue a downed pilot participating in escape and evasion!

Very cool, what was the response from viewers?

Does this mean the marshall will give you 261 radial or 081 radial for marshall heading?

Would like to have the ability to fly tanker version of the F/A-18 during missions. Anyone else?

Help with ground target spotting in VR please
jwflowersii replied to jasonstory44's topic in Virtual Reality
+1 this helps alot. -
So I love this simulator, but what is the point of the replay track if I can't even get around the carrier pattern once before it completely goes bonkers and shows me crashing which I never did. It would be nice to actually have accurate replay tracks.
-
+1 I really would like this idea for multiplayer training.

I believe it's angels 3.5, but not 100% only 95% sure.

Wags, I was enjoying my VR experience the other night with the F/A-18C and was thinking it would be good marketing to do a VR experience that Oculus and Vive users could download for free and ride along on a flight with carrier launches/recovery, ariel refueling, and maybe a bombing run. It's such a cool experience. Plus it would be neat to share my missions with friends.
