DCS: de Havilland DH.98 Mosquito FB Mk VI Discussion
HotTom replied to msalama's topic in DCS: Mosquito FB VI
I'm not convinced there actually is an "ED WWII crew" and if it does exist, I have no idea who its leader is. ED really should identify a point of contact (as in Wags for the jets) so we have someone with whom we can communicate. I love the "study sim" aircraft we have but they seem to get little love from ED these days. The Mossie should have been in full release a long time ago. -
missing info Mossie AI refuses to attack enemy ships

There is if you have selected CAP. But it doesn't wok with rockets. Sri this isn't helping you. Most of what I've learned with the Mission Editor is by Trial and Error. So, keep trying... -

Are you using Perform Task or Start Enroute Task? It only works with Start Enroute Task for me. -
missing info Mossie AI refuses to attack enemy ships
HotTom replied to Gunfreak's topic in Bugs and Problems
Try this (works for me): Click on the waypoint where you want the attack to start. Go to advanced Waypoint Actions and choose Start Enroute Task. Select Group (or unit) to Search than Engage. There's a dropdown that gives you a choice of weapons. Pick Rockets. I've used this in many of my missions (author name tttiger available in Users)) and it always works. Try it and come back and comment. Hope that solves it for you. HT (tttiger) -
Help : backup / copying dcs to external hard drive
HotTom replied to Bradader's topic in DCS World Tutorial & Help Requests
Just cut and paste it into the new drive. -
In real life, Coastal Command loaded 4 rockets per wing by using stacked rocket rails (2 rows of 2). This allowed the Coastal Command to also use 100 gallon drop tanks, which they received early in 1945 and mounted inside the double-layered rockets. That, in turn allowed missions into the Kattegat where they sunk a lot of German ships..

Wonderful addition, especially for Mossies!
-
Just my opinion, but...you need to get proficient with the aircraft in Single Player BEFORE you go on Multi Player. Rockets and bombs (or drop tanks) cannot both fit on the wings. Try it in Single Player and you'll see....

In the Mission Editor, in advanced waypoint settings, in start enroute task, select search then engage group or unit. There you can also select which weapons to use. Works for me. HT (tttiger)

Okay, Skew, indulge me. Go into Mission Editor, choose the Channel Map. Choose a navy ship to add. Choose Third Reich. Choose Category: Submarine. What choices do you get? I get one choice: "U-boat VIIC U-flak." What do you see? Put it on your map and look at it. Mine has five AAA guns behind the conning tower. What does yours have? What I see is called a U-flak (by DCS) and it looks like a U-flak. How is yours different? Tell me. Please.
-
No, that definitely is not a flak boat. It's what I'm looking for! Does it exist in DCS? I know how to nerf the flak boat (put it on weapons hold) but that makes it too easy a target.

Nevermind...

Silver Dragon, I asked you what time it is and you show me how to build a clock.... I KNOW all this stuff you posted, but none of it is linked to DCS. All that other info you linked is from online sources I already have. Now. what I asked for was a DCS link to a type VIIC U-boat. The one I received with the WWII Assets Pack is a flak version and I can find no other....I don't believe a VIIC without flak exists in DCS. Prove me wrong.... Maybe they've been grabbed (Shanghaied) to build jets and helicopters. WWII doesn't seem to have a coordinator anymore.
-
Silver dragon, thanks for your lengthy reply. My comments still stand, though. The whole WW2 effort is too scattered, in my opinion, and I don't think expanding into the Pacific without building out more of Europe is a good idea. That said, where can I find a type VIIC U-boat WITHOUT the flak guns? You say ED built it but I can't find it anywhere. And I'm pretty sure ED built the Type VIIC flak boat we have. Post a link to the VIIC ED non-flak U-boat, please. I really am pleased with the WW2 planes we have and plan to continue to write missions for them. I just think it's counter-productive to expand before filling in the ETO.

The Falklands/South Atlantic map is wonderful! The southwest part of South America really looks like Norway!

missing info Mossie AI refuses to attack enemy ships
HotTom replied to Gunfreak's topic in Bugs and Problems
Sri for the delay but I finally re-created your problem in a mission of my own. You are correct. The AI Mossies are very unwilling to fire their rockets at ships. My work around is to arm them with two 250-pound SAP bombs in the bomb bay instead bombs instead. Not ideal but the veteran Mossie AI pilots rarely miss with these smaller bombs. Dunno what the problem is but the Mossie is still in Early Release and still needs some fine tuning. They also don't strafe the ships, either. Not the solution you (or I) hoped for but it allowed me to go ahead with the mission. If the rockets ever get fixed, I'll revise it. Hope that helps. -
Good idea, Rudel! I thought DCS automatically told users what add-ons are required. Most of my A4-E missions are on the Syrian map (IAF). Most of the Mossie missions are on the Normandy map and the Channel map. Please give me feedback after you try them!

Just a little context for my views: I flew flight sims in MP for something like 30 years. I finally had to step back and reassess what I liked and didn't like about the hobby. What I liked were study level sims. What I like is the history. DCS has those in SINGLE PLAY. What i didn't like was all the GAMER stuff, furballs down in the weeds. Fine for some. Not for me. So I changed my approach. I only fly SP in DCS. And I only fly ww2 warbirds (and the A4-E). I write SP missions that are as historically accurate as I can make them within the confines of DCS. You can find them in the USERS section under my users name of tttiger. That said: Why are Warbirds folks leaving DCS?: 1. The plane sets are way too limited and mismatched. The only Luftwaffe fighter I use in my missions is the FW190A8 because the Dora and the 109 we have are late war models that only appeared in limited numbers and mostly to chase bombers. Now we are about to get the Corsair, which never flew a single mission in Europe. WTF? 2. The naval assets are a joke. The only U-boat we have is the Flak version that appeared in very limited numbers (5, I think) and were withdrawn from service in about a month and all served in the Bay of Biscay, which isn't even on our maps. We don't have any destroyers of any nation. WTF? 3. The maps are way too limited for the planes we have. The Mossie was a long range attack aircraft used mostly in Southern France, Scandinavia and Germany. Do we have maps of Southern France, Scandinavia and Germany? Nope. But we have maps of the Falklands and Marianas. WTF? How should DCS fix it?: 1. Focus the plane set on historical matchups. Don't enlarge its scope until it is filled out for European missions. 2. Give us more naval assets: Destroyers, river barges, flak ships, minesweepers. The carriers are nice but, as a mission builder, what I need are historical targets. 3. Similarly, we need maps that cover historical operations. Right now I am working on Mossie missions by Coastal Command in Scandinavia. I am substituting the South Atlantic for Norway. And Normandy for the Baltic coast. That ain't right. In short DCS needs to narrow its focus and concentrate on quality and history. Constantly enlarging its scope just results in releasing planes that have neither historical adversaries nor maps. I-16, anyone? HT/TTT

missing info Mossie AI refuses to attack enemy ships
HotTom replied to Gunfreak's topic in Bugs and Problems
Order: Get on your coms (radio) select the plane you want to order (your own wingman or flight). AI-Limitations: in ME, select the plane, select advanced waypoint instructions (at the bottom of the menu), go to options, go to "overrride AI attack avoidance decisions".) Finally, 24 Mossies?? Start with 4, all in your own flight so you can talk to them. Then build on that.... -

Well, when you are test flying, use your radio order them to engage the ships. Also, set the planes to ignore AI limitations. -

Do you order them to attack on your radio? -
Normandy needs a landing strip in the SW
HotTom replied to GR00VYJERRY's topic in DCS: Normandy 1944
No, Normandy needs a map that extends to the southwest. A tremendous amount of air combat took place in Brittany and in the Bay of Biscay but we can't recreate any of it.- 1 reply

Well past time to update, Komet. The descriptions you show were changed long ago (especially after many of us complained we couldn't understand them). Seriously, it's much clearer now.
