  1. Can anyone reccomend a good number for beating the SAMs, that will work in most scenarios? According to a book... UK Army Air Core pilots flying AH64D in Afghanistan just set it to automatic and it sent out complex arrays of decoys. Much better to let it work automatically than try and do it yourself apparently. With SAM incoming we dont have time to change the sequences etc so does everyone just use a standard number that will give you a best chance 90% of the time? WHat is that golden number? I been trying 512, both sides, but still getting hit if not a bit lucky. Hills seem to be the best defence... REPOSTING IN GENERAL AS ITS NOT A BUG
  2. Sounds like your doing well then, at least your in the air and finding airports! The HOTAS system takes a while to sink in. It will do though. Have a look at the diagrams / make your own, look for the patterns. Dont sweat it, it will suddenly come to you. Do the instant action over and over. The easy one. start with the gun. Rockets. CCIP is easy. CCRP quite easy. TGP leads to LGB and Maverick..Maverick was the hardest for me. Delighted when I eventually got one to rifle off. Yeah just keep at it. Dont know why theres 5 trigger buttons though I can think of two for the gun, one really since you can get started without the PAC. I only have one stage on my trigger so have to modify for pac
  3. Some negative energy on this thread. Go for it Demongornot!
  4. A new copy on Amazon is £72.34! Oh good some cheaper second hand ones. Thanks for the tip!
  5. Eh Yeah Im not technical on computer specs, but thats what it says on the front. I know it was good, is that really good? I hope so! DCS A10C inspired me to ditch run of the mill computers, do some research\find out about gaming laptops, and buy that one becasue it seemed pretty cool. Still cant run COD though.
  6. Its a good point, I think the AI are stopping quicker regardless of stores etc. Im sure I usually land with less on board than him anyway. (if he makes it back at all...)
  7. Thanks Eddie, thats reassuring and a good post. Hopefully one day noone can find a single fault remaining in the DCS series. Then we can all kick back around some virtual apron somewhere, crack open some beers and make fun of each others landings. "You can teach monkeys to land better than that dagadagadaga.." Now in the mean time Im off to start learning Russian so I can bypass you lot and get straight to the ED Team with my great suggestions!
  8. You have to open them in DCS. Go to "Replay" in the game menu. Unless you mean something else?
  9. Years ago (80s) my parents bought me a subscription to Take Off magazine, I think it ran something like 12 volumes of 12 issues each. Not sure on that. Lots of great articles that I can remember to this day, but one of the standout ones was about the A10. I can still remember the description of low flying, rolling inverted to crest hills and duck between trees. It made me realise how utterly fantastic it must be to fly the A10 and realise that Mach 2 isnt eveything. Round about that time 3 or 4 dived down on a train I was travelling on in lincolnshire. The kids in the table next to me were very excited to see the "Lancaster bombers" coming at them. Think they must have been watching The Dambusters soon beforehand.
  10. The substantive argument would be that it doesnt stop in the same distance as the advanced A10C the player enjoys. Presumeably that performs as per specs. I know that you are not ED, so it is dissappointing you allegedly have the power to forward our suggestion or not, based on your own opinion of what is important. Actually I suspect real ED people take a greater interest in what is said on these forums than you indicated. If I was creating a product I would certainly like to know what the customers thought of it.
  11. No Assumption. You PERSONALLY will not let the idea flow. In your opinion its trivial. Several customers are saying it seems like a good idea. Don't belittle us. Without us there is no ED. Not the other way around. Maybe it's not possible. The obvious fact to me is, that is has to stop in some distance. So why not program that distance to be realistic. We are not asking for something new, just that something should be more accurate.
  12. For me, (in the cheap seats) the brakes are either on or off anyway. Its all or nothing: "W" or not. Luckily all the runways are very long. Seriously though we are here to suspend reality, to become absorbed by the simulation. It might seem trivial to some but its important to others, look how excited everyone is about wing flex in X-plane or FSX. I couldnt give two hoots because Im in the cockpit only. Never really do outside views. But for some thats the main thing and thats fine by me. Some of the simple things in DCS let it down as far as Im concerned. Its really high quality in some places and really low in others. Perhaps the mods could not be too personally motivated when it comes to letting the ideas flow. Some companies would appreciate ideas and viewpoints. It helps improve their products and keeps them competitive. Its worth a lot.
  13. Mind I can see a potential problem where the runway gets clogged up with AI dutifully taxiing at 5mph all the way to the end of the runway. It might have to be a bit more complicated like, Land, Decelerate to 50, untill 100m from last exit, decelerate to 15. Turn off. It is a bit more complicated. At my local military AB (not that I go there spotting or anything) the jets are always taking the last exit. I suppose Her Majesties RAF cannot quite afford to go through brake pads like the USAF does.
  14. Pretty much ALL the roads are single track where I live. Meercat have a read of the APFD logic thread, some good discussion on there about that FD/AP stuff.
  15. Oh OK I better start trying that, and dust off the brain for some maths. Thanks
  16. I just follow the target pipper on the HUD. If its too shallow pull up a bit and vice versa. If its going wrong pull off and start again. Not a big one doing for maths if I can avoid it.
  17. No you dont give them AFM, somewhere there is an instruction: Stop in 500m. Change the 5 to an 8, ie 800m. Its simulation, it just needs to look real! Then again I know nothing of these computer tech things
  18. Same thing happens if you land a bit rough on top of tower blocks.
  19. Well, Inspired by all your valiant efforts I decided it was time to get back in the Hog, and do a bit of AAR practice (prob first time since 1109 or even 11 0 8. Result: I cant do it! Why? 1) all the comms have gone to hell! No reply on AM, but stangely getting a reply on UHF (text only at times). If I can get through he puts the boom down, but as I creep into position the crazy in the plane shouts "BREAKOFF! BREAKOFF!" The one time I got on the boom, all of a sudden someone said "Enfield heading home" or similar and a tthat exact moment the tanker hurtled into a 330 knot spiral dive for Batumi. Wierdness. Seems like Ive got some learning to do. I am going to sit quietly in the back of the class and keep my gob shut for once.
  20. What I like about that track; nice smooth flying, in trim, in control, no bumps. What I dont like about that track..Well thats obvious. What I think the reason for that effect is: You are not flying according to real life procedures! If you dont fly accoding to real life procedures then there may be unpredictable results!... Everyone knows they drive on the right over there!
  21. Viper Im getting confused, not by flying the thing, I can see a logical method for doing so and am no longer having any further problems now that Im doing it "my way". However what is the official line; should we trim regularly or not? Maybe only when were not doing very much? What about through manoevres. At what point is it OK to just fly off trim through manoevres, and at what point should we trim 2 times a second? Anyway since you asked, lets analyse that video. Time 0.10. The Kamov guy trims in hover at 012m with pitch +08 degs and hdg 120. He then side slips to right..Changes heading to 220 and reduces pitch to -18, whilst climbing to 090m and increasing speed to 91kmh before finally trimming again when he is pointing the trajectory he wants to go, at Time 0.24. Through the enroute phase, IIRC there are no significant changes in attitude when he trims onto a new trajectory. Meanwhile out hero Meercat, in the first of his tests just after he zooms into the hud, 1) trims 2) changes pitch a "Meer" 10 degs then 3) trims again. As he releases the controls there is a further 10 degree pitch change. This is what he is complaioning about. It seems legitimate to me. The "should you trim whilst flying manoevres argument" is OT I think. But Im happy to discuss it all day, Im on shift and getting paid to sit here for the next 12 hours!
  22. Oh ok,,,I guess I was confused when you put the piston engine icing chart up. It seemed to indicate you might not know what you were talking about. Thanks for giving me the permission to use a sensible value like 5C again...
  23. I agree, lets settle on +5C. That seems reasoneable. Now Im off to fly the A10 through some clouds. If I dont get any airframe icing Im coming to see you about it! haha.
