fly it like you stole it - disable AP
bluepilot76 replied to PlainSight's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
I Didnt watch it all, and got no sound on this work PC, but I saw the start and the end and a few bits in the middle. (very little straight and level that I could see). It is a relief to see a video without the overly dramatic scenes chopping from one to another every 1.5 seconds, and the bloopers at the end credits were excellent. I am also a 3 channels on, FD on AP off guy - but not going to get embroiled in another one of those discussions...I hope... -
What about Nordcap / Murmansk etc Norway has already relocated its military further north, ready for a big one. Great scenery. Balkans looks just like Georgia.

Alternatively, Leafer, since you are creating the mission yourself, why dont you make waypoint 1, 90 degs off the runway axis. Therefore whichever runway you get, you can be guaranteed to only have to turn 90 degs to get on course... OR, use static weather and force the wind direction to suit your preferred runway?
-
It is quite unusual to take off down wind (also for a plane to miraculously appear at the start of the runway). The aircraft would first have had to get departure instructions and taxi clearance before leaving the ramp. So I imagine if you are starting from the runway, you are assuming that the AI pilot started up, asked for departure instructions and was told to taxi to the relevant runway. Just after lining up, you take over. I think you just have to live with it, or suffer the long taxi to the other end and take off against the traffic. Turning 180 degs at the start of a combat mission is not unreasonable surely? If you cant be bothered to turn around at the start of the mission, what you going to do when people start firing at you! lol.

Aha! You are right of course! Many Thanks! .. Suppose I should have RTFM....

Hi all, Should the Page Up/ Down button on the UFC allow scrolling through the pages displayed on the CDU repeater? The Page up / down button does this on the CDU itself.... It doesnt do it in my Hog. But I think it should? Cheers BP76

I think you should keep this thread on topic, some of us are happy to fly a P51 which was a combat aircraft and took part in the biggest conflict of all time. I think DCS should definitely get involved and the more types they do the better. Christ the KA50 is hardly a modern combat aircraft either. An obscure footnote in aviation history. But we are all happy to plod around in that. IL2 is well old and past it, COD is a disaster. There are no good WWII simulators.

That sounds good Sobek! I hope we can start getting some new sceneries soon after Nevada.

So I must have got hit then,,or my memory is failing..both highly likely. Anyway it was a new one for me. Only just getting 1111 up and running.

Hi, I was just having a bit fly around in instant action trying to get my keys setup again. I fired a really long burst on a tank, way more than I would normally use in a proper mission. The gun stopped and the XXs came up. I didnt get any caution lights and no damage was modelled externally, however I was getting fired at by the tanks turret mount so I suppose I could have been hit, however it occurred to me that maybe you can jam the gun if you fire for too long.
-
I had this just now for the first time, will that happen if you pull the trigger for too long (as in overheat jam) or does it mean I got hit?
-
Anybody know what happened in Georgia in WW2? certainly quite a lot was going on just up the coast. Surely cant be too hard for a mod that changes the airfields into much shorter grass strips. Get some AI Stukas and 109s, swap out the modern tanks for Tigers or whatever and we got ourselves a great battlefield!

Win a flight in P51D! Just an Idea...
bluepilot76 replied to bluepilot76's topic in DCS: P-51D Mustang
Oh, the crash of Big Beautiful Doll at Duxford somehow passed me by..Very sad, but absolutely AMAZING that the pilot was able to get out and successfully open his chute in such an extremely short time. Guy must be one cool cucumber. Anyway there seems to be a bit of drift here, 2 seat Mustangs are not in any way rare, nearly every one I have seen nowadays has that tell tale ever so slightly extended canopy. If you had one, wouldnt you put a seat in the back so you could take up your friends? I certainly would. The Fighter Collections P51 is a 2 seater according to their webpage. I imagine an hour in something like that is something less than £5000 so not a impossible amount of money for what would really be a marketing exercise. -
Is the MiG pilot possibly drunk in the opening sequence, or maybe he has dropped his crisps on the cockpit floor and cant quite reach them? A fun ride thats for sure.
-
Nice job- makes much more sense.

Hi ED, How about organising some sort of P51D competition, maybe pylon racing or dogfighting or creating an aerobatic display track etc. The winner gets a flight in a P51D at The Fighter Collection. Might be a good puclicity thing I know I will be itching to buy my copy!

Yeah but Im really talking about in the DCS sim world. In the real world if your jet was crippled then they would get you down in a safe manner. Or if there was too much chance of it going pear shaped you would eject and dump the jet in the desert. Unfortunately DCS does not have that level of fidelity in the ATC, so I recommend ignoring the ATC and looking after no1. Note that "looking after no1" does not imply doing something obviously unsafe like cutting in dangerously close to other aircraft. But I am not going to blindly follow the instructions of an idiotic AI ATC. Besides sooner I get down the sooner I can get the jet fixed up and head back out. That wouldn't happen in RL either but we are not RL A10 pilots. So I think you have to blend a bit of RL procedures with a bit of fantasy, just because ultimately we are doing this for fun and unfortunately the DCS world is not perfect yet.
-
If I had a lot of free time I would probably pay $500 for rise of flight.
-
Well its not like Heathrow or JFK is it. The problem is the ATC is buggy and c**p. You could fit half a dozen landings in between DCS ATC controlled landings. Im with Phuz on that. Your in command of your aircraft, if you have some major issue that requires you to get down asap and the tower cannot realise that then just get it down. On the other hand unless you are not on fire or running out of fuel, if you have managed to limp back to base, chances are you can limp around in an orbit for 5 minutes.
-
Have seen RL footage where the A10s opened full airbrake just prior to touchdown, maybe just at the initiation of the flare, I think the "AI" does it in DCS as well.

One of my first and only times online, I took off, headed for the WP, saw a convoy going a long a road, bit of a battle going on, fired all my mavs at it....got kicked for killing friendlys. Oops! time to go back to vehicle identification school. Yeah I fly without labels as much as possible, spend more time not firing at things than firing at things. Trying to figure out what the heck is going on. Just like in RL I suppose. I just find it too much of an arcade game with the labels on. Anyway each to his own. I like the idea of labels being a bit more scalable or realistic (glints..) although pretty sure that most combat stuff is designed to not have much shiny stuff to avoid those glints amap. I might turn them on briefly just to have a hint about what that bandit is that my wingman knows all about. Then I turn them off and probably get shot down.lol

I bet the Ice hockey guy is over on the Ice-Hockey-Jockey forum right now, 6 pages into a thread about why his crazy friend spends all his time and money on his computer in a dark room pretending to be a pilot when he could be going to the game, drinking beer and getting laid. I would pay $500 for a REALLY good sim too.
-
Point is though if you are landing or taking off, and for some reason you NEED to give a strong yaw command, ie cross wind or you are just heading towards the edge or your wingman, then you can not be gentle with it. the rudder will have authority at speed but you will need a good dose of rudder pedal to use it. Meanwhile your nose wheel is going sideways. I am sure I saw it written down somewhere that the proedure is to turn it off. Not that I am a big believer in RTFM, but it just seems sensible to turn it off when your rudder is going to be overriding it. Anyway each to his own its not like you have to pay for the ones you break!

Looking forward to the P51 online racing server. Is Reno in that new map?
