In my opinion, having lost comm link it should have crashed and shattered to a million pieces ;) Actually, it is in greater shape than how some of my poor RC aircraft turned out after my hopeful attempts at landing them :D Anyhow, if you buy it that the UAV lost comms, then somehow managed to land itself in that mountainous region, fine. Well, I don't. And I'm looking forward to eventually finding out - hopefully - what actually happened :smilewink:
-
That drone fits the description of intact just fine :)
-
RC example was to demonstrate that it is unreasonable to assume that an oversized RC can land itself after radio failure (unless it is designed to do so, which cannot be the case here). It is not a comparison of a 100 buck transciever to encrypted satellite link. I think you misunderstood what I said. Your assumptions re infallible encryption, no possibility to hack etc. aside, here is the fact: the Iranians snatched the UAV intact. How? I don't know. I know however that the UAV didn't land itself after losing the command link :) Unless of course, the designers deliberately incorporated in it the capability to land itself intact into enemy hands, instead of fitting it with a self destruction mechanism  How about using your apparently vast knowledge of these technologies to explain how the Iranians have the drone intact? And I'd appreciate if you can offer another explanation than that the drone landed itself after losing comm link

Wait until US chooses to send one into Chinese airspace ;)

The kind of hands that can snatch a high-tec UAV from 30,000 feet in one piece, under the nose of the world's top intelligence agency ;) But don't take my word for it, just ask a friend who is into R/C flying what happens when the transciever fouls up on you in midflight
-
If they have the know-how and means to secure that drone intact, I'm guessing they can find a way to harvest whatever technology is used to develop it.

Facts have a rough way of handling wishful-thinking folks :music_whistling: Anyhow, it will be in order for Iranian officials to send a bottle of champagne to CIA to thank them for saving Iran billions in UAV research :D

I think these units are a part of the swarm tactic that Iranians developed against US naval forces. If they can fit them with some sort of crude torpedo-/missile-launching capability, concentrating a few hundred, or even thousand of these hornets on a single target could pose a significant threat. It'd be like playing Space Invaders for sailors manning the guns on the CV :D
-
I didn't think so :)
-
Do you have access to US military inventory data to present that assertion as a "fact"?

What's to see in Texas :D

Without getting too political, I am referring to the current escalation over Iran's alleged nuclear weapons program.
-
I agree with an earlier poster that this drone may have been sacrificed to reveal Iranian capabilities before the upcoming war. Apparently, Iran will be a different story than stone-age Afghanistan or starved Iraq. These folks have perspective and problem-solving skills.

Good advice, thx

I appreciate the feedback guys, @Ralfidude It was indeed a negative G dive for a few seconds (I pushed the nose down). It may well be the reason for the flameout. Thanks for pointing it out. I wasn't aware of this A10c limitation (it is not fitted with a Spit MK1 carb I hope :D). I'll mind negative Gs from now on. @macedk I never came near the maximum speed limit (~400 kts) throughout.

I didn't mean this to be "bug report" per se, since I am new to this sim, so I didn't care to keep the track. But I'll try to reproduce it this evening and make sure I post the track. So, am I correct in understanding that experiencing a flameout during a steep dive at idle throttle is not normal?
-
Hello, I've had both engines flameout during a steep dive (~30 deg) for a strafing run with both throttle levers at idle position. Initially I thought I was shot, but checking the mission log I saw it was not the case. There was no indication that I was targeted nor shot at by any unit, but there was a peculiar radar altimeter error failure report (perhaps from the power off due to flameout?). Not sure tho. So, is flameout to be expected during a steep dive with idle throttle? Thanks

A barking dog will often not bite you ;) But we'll find out soon enough (read March 2012 :music_whistling:). -
The original post is from 2008

X65F potentiometer replacement
primus_TR replied to Speed's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I've had mine for about 6 months now I think, and I never felt the need to go back to my old Cougar. I have found that using a different USB port can sometimes help with occasional hickups. Also, be sure to use the beta driver, if you don't already have it, which enables recalibrating the stick without replugging. -
They have done it with BS2 (I recognize that the shark already had a 6DOF cockpit, i.e. less work, but still :)), so it is not totally unreasonable to anticipate a similar upgrade to SU25T at least, which is already unique among other FC aircraft in that it has an advanced flight model, and at the time of its introduction it represented a leap of similar - if not greater - magnitude. And whether the extra work needed to incorporate a renewed cockpit is "worth it" would be a question of pricing, no? ;)
-
I understand that. But I'm really enjoying the new shark cockpit and I was hoping to see a similar upgrade if only to the SU25T. Since this will be a "paid" product, why not?
-
Bummer :(. Thanks anyhow.

Hello, a quick FC3 question: "This will be a paid-for update to the Flaming Cliffs series and brings it to the same world, mission editor, AI, units, etc. as A-10C and Black Shark 2." Does the 'et cetera' include new 6DOF clickable cockpits and cockpit shadows for any FC3 aircraft?

It'd be great if the mission placed a friendly ground unit in vicinity of home base so that you can come back to refuel/rearm. Currently, as soon as you take off, your homebase turns "Neutral" from "Red Coalition."
