That's not aid. That's buying cooperation. No one's giving anyone anything for free.

In my opinion, it may not be that important, since 1) the US debt is largely internal, 2) the US debt is in USD, meaning they, unlike Greeks, Spaniards, Italians, Irish et al., can print their way out of debt without worrying too much about inflation in a low-demand environment (note also the extremely low [negative even] rates at which which the US government can currently borrow). In other words, the US economy has unique characteristics in several aspects and comparing it to other countries may be misleading. And contrary to common misconceptions, in my opinion a gigantic (in the trillions) war spend which no one (read republicans) can argue against CAN be the US's way out of the current economic depression (may be that is the whole point behind the Iran escalation afterall?). At any rate, again in my view, the US is in much less economic trouble compared to everyone else around the world, and CAN afford (financially and otherwise) wiping Iran off the face of the earth. And remember, despite the now-secured Libyan oil supply, Europe will suffer immensely from an oil crisis due to Iran war, unlike the US. So sell your euros and buy golds and dollars while you can :D

Although a bit dated, a decent overview of modern UAV systems, for those interested. http://books.google.com.tr/books?id=Xqzv_wXqC5EC&printsec=frontcover&dq=Unmanned+Aircraft+Systems:+International+Symposium+on+Unmanned&hl=tr&sa=X&ei=nOQGT-rNFIPfsgaO6oGCDw&ved=0CDoQ6AEwAA#v=onepage&q=Unmanned%20Aircraft%20Systems%3A%20International%20Symposium%20on%20Unmanned&f=false

Jet engines run better in cold environments?
primus_TR replied to Megagoth1702's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
@USMC_Trev Do you not think latency represents an unbreachable barrier in the way of UAVs' completely replacing manned aircraft in combat roles even far into the future? -

I don't think I appreciate your attempts at moderation. Best you leave it to forum moderators ;)

In case you missed earlier posts in this thread, my post is in reference to earlier posts re NATO designation system of Russian military assets
-
Notably, NATO designation for Russian choppers all start with an H(elicopter): Hokum, Havoc, Hip, Hind

Press the OSB (or the LSK as applicable) button twice. It changes the sign for temp value to negative

Excellent tips here. Thank you OP.

Hello, It would be nice if the mission generator placed a friendly ground unit near player homebase, so that we can go back to rearm/refuel. Also, weather data reported in the mission briefing could be a bit more descriptive. For example, it gives cloud base altitude but doesn't tell if it is overcast or broken or whatever. And it'd be nice to have a line indicating precipitation also. Something like: Clouds: Broken, with base at 1200 agl Wind GL: 210 at 4 Wind 2000: etc. etc. Precipitation: None (light rain etc). Thanks

I wasn't aware Steam had a gifting option. Thanks a lot!

Hi, I would like to gift A10C to a friend to fly online together. Since online play is tied to user email address, how will this work? If I own two licenses for A10, will my friend use my second license to activate his software, then use MY email address to fly online with ME? FYI, I purchased A10C through Steam, and used Steam key to activate A10C which I downloaded directly from DCS site, and actually A10 does not show on my purchases page on DCS site (only BS2 does, which I purchased through here). I'd appreciate if I can get official guidance on this? Thanks

99.9999999% it'll be an F15C :music_whistling:

I am aware of that, but my point was their having a poor track record for selecting quality suppliers. IMO It is an issue with their quality mindset. At least, that was my experience with them as a customer ;) I must admit however that I do miss programming versatility of my Cougar, but not so much that I'd consider going back to using it again :)
-
Saitek X65F could ;) I was planning on replacing my old Cougar with a TM Warthog, but then terrible user reports and the notoriority of TM for using very poor quality pots (I had replaced my Cougar's pots with pots from an Microsoft Sidewinder to get rid of the horrible spikes :music_whistling:, and look how they created a side market for Cougar mods) made me reconsider and I ended up with an X65F. It took some getting used to (pressure sensing is a very different experience) but now it turned out to be the most functional and precise controller I have owned to date (and it has far fewer moving parts  ) I have all A10 hotas functions assigned to buttons and hats on it without having to use a shift state, plus I have one of the rotaries assigned to zooming and the second one I use for GUNARM / SAFE / GUNPAC states via bands for lack of a better use for it :) I cannot say that it is better than TM Warthog since I don't have personal experience with it, but having owned an X65F for about 8 months I'd seriously recommend it to anyone on the market for a top quality hotas. It is that good

For a somewhat nearer location report, JTAC 9 line may be helpful as sometimes it includes data on nearby SAM threats also (e.g. SA19 northwest, 5 nautical). Which then you can use to locate at least one of the buggers using the OFFSET page on the CDU. This is not always available (as the target you are being assigned to may be far from any air defense assets), but it is worth using when you can.
-
I'm looking forward to the combined arms add-on. JTAC role will be definetly interesting (I suspect it may become boring after a few sessions tho :music_whistling:), but I'd also appreciate a bit more detail on the particulars of the proposed resource management system. Also, will Combined Arms be a fully external module with a stand-alone .exe, or will it be run from within A10, BS2 or FC3? I'll buy it anyhow but still it'd be nice to know...

Alternatively, you can lower the HOF value for CBU97 from 1800 to 1200 at the cost of effectiveness. Remember tho, it will not deploy at all at altitudes below 900 AGL. IMO it is best to use either CCRP for static targets, or CCIP with Consent to Release (5 mil or 3/9) for moving targets without lowering the HOF, since you would not be using the CBU97 effectively at HOF < 1800 AGL.

Because it should be designed EXACTLY NOT to do that in the event of a malfunction. It is not a civilian airliner, it is a military UAV containing top secret technology operating over hostile territory. You don't want it to fall into the hands of your enemies (or friends even ;) ). I don't think this basic principle is omitted in its design. And that is the reason why I don't buy the "It wasn't a headshot, I headbutted the bullet" argument
-
I don't think whoever designed that UAV was an idiot who'd incorporate above functionality in a top secret piece of military hardware, so that it can land undamaged in hostile territory in the event of a malfunction so that the enemy can get a hold of it. @Topol, I did not make any assumption. My comments are based on the single fact available to us commoners: Iranians "acquired" a top tech US UAV intact. I'm just questioning theories here about "how" that happened.:)
