1. Okay, I realize that I'm obsessing over lighting issues lately. Let's just say that I finally got the HDR working and I'm thrilled with how important lighting has become in the game. Anyway, when you have your landing light turned on and you're sitting on the ramp, if you click the switch down one position to "Off", it still animates the light slowly moving down as iff it's retracting. This seems odd to me, because it just turns the landing light off and leaves it in the same position. Come to think of it, when you switch it to "Retract", it turns the light off before retracting it. What's up with the animation where the light slowly recedes down?
2. The overhead brightness knob is nonfunctional, yes. The PVI knob is supposed to work, according to the flight manual. And my point about the rear one is that it's supposed to control HSI brightness as well, which it doesn't appear to.
3. Hey Folks. It seems that the lighting cockpit panel brightness knob controls the brightness for the PVI-800 and HSI, the PVI-800's brightness knob controls nothing, and the HSI/ADI brightness knob only controls the ADI and backup ADI's brightness. Anyone else getting this? Am I just wrong?
4. FWIW, I just fixed the same problem yesterday by uninstalling, deleting the save directory and the program directory, and reinstalling. Make sure you deactivate first. And no, repair didn't cut it for me. I think the upgrader was corrupt; it didn't want to let me delete it at first.
5. After the latest update, DCS World just won't boot. I double-click my desktop icon, it opens and then closes without ever displaying anything. I run DCS.exe in the bin directory and it shows the splash screen then quits.
6. Okay, so my unit flies with a couple of tweaks. The big one is that we changed the R-828 frequencies to match up with the frequencies of one of the Hog's radios so that we can talk back and forth on that. The problem is that the lua files keep getting wiped out by the autoupdater. Is it possible to place the R-828 (and the ABRIS options.lua) files in the saved games folder to prevent this?
7. What else do you do to fence in in the Su-25T? There's no master arm or communications to speak of. I suppose Emcon with the navigation lights. Do you start autodispensing countermeasures? Newb question: What's EOS? Ayup! That's what I'm here for =) Oh, one other question. EWR == RWR? Or are they different?
8. In an effort to understand more about this odd plane that I've been flying, I ran a few tests yesterday on the IR jammer. My question was this: Does it work, and if so, is there any reason to ever fly without it on? I started with a Su-25T flying 400km/h at 300m AGL. I had 4 MANPADS: 2 Strelas, 2 Stingers. Each missile had 1 operator with average skill and 1 with excellent. My findings: Operator skill only affects acquisition time, not missile tracking capability (as it should). The IR jammer, which is located on the tail of the plane facing back, is very effective. It consistently defeated 5/6 of the SAMs when they were fired at the rear of the plane as it was flying away. The missiles veered off course, missing the plane by anywhere from a couple of meters out to ~30m. The IR jammer loses effectiveness when the missiles are coming from any other direction. This makes sense because the thing faces backwards and obviously can't do much when you have a missile coming at you from 12 o'clock. Interestingly enough, the IR jammer isn't very effective when the missiles are fired from a 4 or 8 o'clock position. I believe this is because the SAMs calculate such a strong lead that, by the time they approach, they aren't coming from the rear aspect of the plane; they're pretty much coming at it laterally. The IR jammer had no effect whatsoever on MANPAD acquisition time. They took exactly the same amount of time to acquire and fire regardless of whether the jammer was turned on or off. I only was able to do extremely limited testing of A2A missiles. I'll try to play with this a little more later on. So my question is this: Is there ever any reason to turn it off? I know that with ECM, flipping it on announces your presence to the neighborhood. With the IR jammer, OTOH, you've already got 2 turbofans pumping out enough heat to barbecue a cow, so it seems like the IR jammer isn't going to add enough to make you more detectable. Thoughts? Comments? Experience?
9. Uninstalled (again), deleted the save directory (again), deleted the DCS World folder and then reinstalled. Apparently deleting the folder in Program Files did the trick. Except for losing the activation. But hey, it sounds like we're all out 1 activation this time around.
10. Well, the good news is that after another complete uninstall and freaking purge, I finally got BS2 working =) The bad news is I'm down an activation =(
11. Well, I've submitted a ticket. Hopefully this can get solved. Thanks all for the help thus far =)
12. This works. Fly towards the target, place the target on level with the reticle but at the midline, switch to salvo mode, override and then launch both. Still, it didn't work this way before and it doesn't work this way in the Ka-50. In the Shark, the reticle moves more towards midline, presumably so that both missiles can hit the grid.
13. Insta-crash when I try to jump in. Slightly different error, though: Problem signature: Problem Event Name: APPCRASH Application Name: dcs.exe Application Version: 1.2.1.6055 Application Timestamp: 506ac04c Fault Module Name: CockpitBase.dll Fault Module Version: 1.2.1.6055 Fault Module Timestamp: 50620e97 Exception Code: c0000005 Exception Offset: 00000000000c3166 OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.256.1 Locale ID: 1033 Additional Information 1: 3d43 Additional Information 2: 3d432e3cd45624297e5508538e8286e1 Additional Information 3: 8f5c Additional Information 4: 8f5c01bc7d7299592a538634e93396be
14. Tried disconnecting everything except USB mouse (because my mobo doesn't have PS2) after updating the GPU drivers and disabling all application override settings. Same error. I really appreciate the help from those in the know. Is there anyone else I can take this to who can take it to another level?
15. Yes, Su-25T works great. Yes, I'm using the Upgrade version (KA-50_bsupd_1.2.1.5970.exe).
16. Yes, it worked without this problem. And...okay... I'll give it a shot in the hopes of getting my beloved Shark running...
17. So how do you unleash a salvo? Just position the gate so that the target is as far to whichever side as possible?
18. Running the repair tool downloads some sort of update and then applies it. Strangely enough, when I delete my save folder, it says it has an update and then actually goes and "validates local files", which takes much longer than the several seconds the repair took. We'll see what happens after it finishes validating...
19. Yes it is. Any specific files I should check for?
20. Same error, but this time the launcher crashed right after the game. Problem signature: Problem Event Name: APPCRASH Application Name: Launcher.exe_DCS Application Version: 1.2.1.5970 Application Timestamp: 505235cc Fault Module Name: DXRenderer.dll Fault Module Version: 1.2.1.5970 Fault Module Timestamp: 50523601 Exception Code: c0000005 Exception Offset: 000000000002e0bb OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.256.1 Locale ID: 1033 Additional Information 1: 666c Additional Information 2: 666ce2a65518efcfa15899bbf46512d1 Additional Information 3: b928 Additional Information 4: b928c4bdb8997b4b92edfa0cf19210c7 [/code
21. Am I the only one who can't seem to find the backup folder generated by the autoupdater? It should just be in the DCS world directory, right?
22. The firing angle is corrected and they now hit! Yay! When attempting to fire a salvo, the reticle moves laterally immediately after the first launch, thus making it difficult/impossible to get the second Vikhr in the air. Boo! I'm pretty certain that the reticle didn't show this behavior before, but I could be wrong. Anyone else?
23. Just installed 1.2.1. Every time I try to launch a Shark mission, it crashes with: Problem signature: Problem Event Name: APPCRASH Application Name: dcs.exe Application Version: 1.2.1.5970 Application Timestamp: 50648537 Fault Module Name: CockpitBase.dll Fault Module Version: 1.2.1.5970 Fault Module Timestamp: 50620e97 Exception Code: c0000005 Exception Offset: 00000000000c3166 OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.256.1 Locale ID: 1033 Additional Information 1: aec4 Additional Information 2: aec4de3b059066af594ad0dc012f1adb Additional Information 3: b0c0 Additional Information 4: b0c08c4e1aa52289e36b8596b14ebdca Not sure why. Also, when I tried the Gauntlet mission, when it crashed, it also told me I committed fratricide. Impressive, considering I didn't even see any combat =P Edit: forgot to attach dxdiag.txt. Anyone else have this issue?
