Is 1.5 using more cpu cores now?
Brainless replied to Knock-Knock's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
It's not multi core optimized, but video card drivers are multi core optimized. Anyone remember Black Shark 1.0 and Windows Vista vs Windows XP (affinity setting)? -
performance gain from i5 4690k to i7 4790k
Brainless replied to HILOK's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
IPC must be almost the same for the both processors (same architecture). Ideally IPC (per core) doesn't change with the clock frequency when talking about the same architecture. -
DCS doesn't use all cores, so you will never see 100% CPU use. On four core CPU, when one core is fully used, you will see only 25% CPU utilization, when two cores are fully used, you will see 50% utilization and so on. DCS use one main thread plus one thread for the sound, so it really likes high clocked CPU, with high IPC. Run it on 8 core (low clocked) CPU and you will see probably only 10-20% CPU usage, but the processor will be the bottleneck, believe or not.

OP asked for a budged solution. So probably new "K" version CPU will not fit. Madara, if you build a rig specifically for DCS with tight budget, maybe you can use some second hand components: - CPU 2500K (of course overclocked) - 16GB DDR3 1866MHz - video card 780ti (still very good for DCS, at least in 1.5.x, look at the benchmarks) or GTX 970/980. Also, you will need at least one controller (joystick), but better is HOTAS+rudder pedals. Most important is the CPU, you need very high clocked Intel CPU (except AMD Ryzen).

Or maybe I'm wrong. Wow! :)

Ryzen 1800X (3.6/4GHz) have the same single thread performance as 6900K (3.2/3.7GHz) in Cinebench. http://www.pcworld.com/article/3171161/components-processors/amds-ryzen-launches-march-2-outperforming-intels-core-i7-at-a-fraction-of-the-price.html As I expected Ryzen's IPC is slightly worse than Intel.

I've missed it. I thought that would work like Intel turbo boost. Last rumors are for 28 Feb release.
-
Their statement is still valid, the software may be doesn't detect turbo boost and you doesn't need overclocking functionality to have working turbo boost.
-
Are you sure? Quote from wccftech:

I don't think that they need "significant overhaul of the entire codebase, probably from scratch" to achieve proper multi-core support. I had the same idea as OttoPus, but no time to try it. And this will require more RAM than mine. ED must finally take some steps to offload the AI to other threads. They have a lot of code (MP) which can help them.
-
I think that all Intel CPUs on this chart are with turbo disabled. You can check actual single thread scores on passmark site.

Prices are OK. We shall see how high four cores can go. If they can hit 5GHz(even more) they will be suitable for DCS.

I made quick comparison for me between MiG-21 and Mirage-2000 over Tbilisi. Mirage-2000 stay at 75fps, while MiG-21 drops to 70-60(occasionally) fps over dense areas. Yes, MiG-21 fps is somehow lower, but not so much. Also I can count the polygons on the Mirage (look at the intake), MiG-21 cockpit also have higher count polygons, may be because all this switches. I doubt that MiG-21 will get lower polygons cockpit in future. For me performance is acceptable.

I think you should get good performance with your system from MiG-21 module. I went to 16GB a year ago (from 8GB), but I don't remember to had any problems with MiG-21. Post your graphics settings. Also, try moderate overclock of your CPU. Believe me, you will feel it. Edit: I purchased 8GB second hand month ago for my second home computer for just 40 Euro.

Dear oculus rift cv1 users. Is it really worth it!
Brainless replied to boedha68's topic in Virtual Reality
I have two and last year invested in TM, MFG and GTX1070. Now I feel greedy looking at the Rift. -

Hi rift users, few questions: Do you think my machine can handle the rift and what graphics settings should use for it? Is it possible someone to post pictures to see how instruments looks through rift and how VR zoom works? I tried DCS with cardboard (Z4 mini, LG G4), but I wasn't very impressed. May be because, distance between lenses was at maximum, but still not comfortable for my eyes. I still hesitate to jump into the VR world. -
Thanks for the reply. Actually I found some answers/possible solutions by myself. 1. What about Stereo.lua? May I edit it to decrease the FOV? 2. Actually around 90. According other forums/reviews 110-120 is pure marketing trick. 3. May be with SweetFx_3D_lense, if we can use it with DCS. I should give a try. - Unfortunately no. 32-Bit only.

Hi, I have few questions: 1. Is it possible to change the FOV when dcs is in stereo mode? Usual keys don't work when stereo is active. 2. About bobovr Z4: is it really 120 degree angle of vision? I ordered mini version (don't need headphones), as it is advertised with the same parameters, but it is lighter. I feel it more like 80-90 degree. 3. Is it possible use lens correction with moonlight?

Reading this thread is so painful for me. Just don't know how long I can hold without ordering. -
Currently, every time when DCS is started, my MiG-21 request reactivation, but this procedure doesn't eat any activation for me.
-
Please post your DCS graphics settings. I will suggest you to not set trees (and etc.) over 12000, they become fps killer, even my GTX1070 can not handle them over 12000. With trees set at 12000 I have almost constant 75fps (VSync on). What is your screen resolution?

Excellent. Enjoy it fully now. -
GTX 1070 driver stopped working

Ohh, you do not understand me. If your new video card is equipped with Micron memory, may be it need BIOS update to work properly, but I'm not sure. Can you post screenshot of what GPUZ says for your video card? What was your previous video card? -

Just curious from where you get the bios? I can not find anything on Inno web site.
