  1. Guys, "ground radar" may not be an "air-to-ground radar." It may be just a ground-based radar. Remember that they wanted to properly implement GCI for the MiG-21, which may need upgrades in that area.
  2. If I get a trainer, it probably won't be the L-39 simply because Russian avionics are not relevant to my interests as a pilot in training. They operate much differently and are entirely metric.
  3. As someone on Reddit pointed out, I was wrong about that being an F6F on the Contact page. It's a Wildcat, and the inlet on top identifies it as an F4F-4, which first appeared at Midway, which tells us it won't be before that point. More USN goodies! We're getting a Wildcat too? If I'm right, hopefully another IJN plane is made since it looks like we're going to have quite a USN bias. Having a flyable P-40/F4F along with whatever LN plans to make for the USN versus just one Japanese plane which I presume is a Zero. The Ki-84 was popular and excellent overall, I think it would be a great choice.
  4. I was having a pretty boring and unproductive day in which I decided to write up this post of aimless assumptions to hoggit (DCS subreddit). I figured that I might as well copy and paste it here. --- Here is a picture of a banner posted on LN's Facebook, after adding contrast. Here is a diagram of an F4U cockpit, which looks EXACTLY like the cockpit in the picture. On the right of the image, you can clearly see the Rising Sun of Imperial Japan, the Unites States nemesis during World War II. The A6M Zero is by far the most well known Japanese aircraft of WWII and would likely have the most available documentation and certainly make the most money. I think A6M5 variant would be plenty of competitive enough to go up against the F4U-1A Corsair. Now that's pretty obvious, but here some other things to think about. On the Leatherneck website, you can see a few things in the background. You can see the P-38 and F6F show up multiple times, but on the homepage, you can see a noticeable wireframe around the models. The F6F in the background of the contact page looks noticeably less developed, so presumably the one on the homepage is improved upon. This tells me they have actually made models for them, though I suppose it's possible they just loaned them from elsewhere. If you were making a Pacific Theater, you'd want to have AI aircraft, and both of these were very common in Pacific. What's more, the Team page has what I'm almost 100% positive is a Yorktown-class carrier in the background, which were used in the Pacific as well. That's about all the substantial evidence I have, but I guess there is some other stuff. LN said that their aircraft would be shipping with theaters (these planes pretty much require one) but it would be much easier if A) two of them shared the same theater and B) it was mostly water and islands so there was less area to map out and fill up. Going for something with a bit less work load would make sense from an 8 man team. I think Solomon Islands would be best since a lot of other areas only have a tiny bit of landmass (often with 1 airfield) and only covered a very brief period of time in history. If I go balls deep into the territory of aimless assumptions and pulling at straws: working on the A6M/F4U/Yorktown would give them experience with creating carrier operations which could be applied to the F-14's development. Evidence against this being the case: LN said they were developing an A-G radar, which has nothing to do with the F-14 or this. Perhaps they're waiting on ED to finish up coding the F/A-18's so they have something to go off of? Thoughts and opinions? If I'm right, VEAO's P-40F would fit right in and be able to join in the fun as well! --- After taking a second look, I guess the cockpit doesn't look exactly like it does in the picture, but it's still pretty close. Here is a link to the Leatherneck website if you wanted to check the backgrounds I mentioned yourself.
  5. I'm going to guess we're getting an F4U-1A and an A6M5 Zero. The cockpit on the left of the banner is clearly a Corsair, and the IJN flag is on the right. There are better matches for the Corsair, yes, but the Zero is by far the most iconic and will sell the most copies and probably have the most information on it too. The -5 variant should be pretty competent in combat. Other hints: the LN website has a P-38 and F6F in the background, both of which were used a lot in the Pacific Theater and at the same time as the F4U/A6M. You can even see a clear wireframe around them, suggesting they have created models for each. It's possible these are AI models for a Pacific Theater. Oh yeah, Cobra mentioned their new aircraft would be shipped with theatres, and you basically need one for these planes. I do hope I'm right, because VEAO's P-40F could join in the fun as well! Solomon Islands would be great, as lot of other historical battlefields like Midway and Wake Island don't offer a lot of playing area and don't cover a lot of time. The only evidence going against this is the mention of LN developing a ground radar model, which the recently unveiled F-14A/B does not have. Development for later down the road?
  6. Is it possible that A-G radar might be for an aircraft later on? The teaser banner we got a little while ago teased an IJN flag and a cockpit that looked a lot like a Hellcat, suggesting a Pacific Theater release. I think that'd be pretty badass actually, especially with a Solomon Islands map. I'd prefer a P-38 to a Hellcat though, mainly because it could participate with the other WWII fighters in Europe.
  7. What separates the Alpha Jet from the C-101, Hawk T1, and L-39? I can only justify owning one trainer.
  8. Stop reposting, and just edit your previous comment if you have something to add.
  9. I think they added the Kh-66 Grom to the MiG-21bis despite the missile not being compatible with the RP-22M radar for the sake of fun, so it's pretty likely they would take a route like this.
  10. Great news! Poll is currently trending towards "yes please" so asking the community if they have any relevant information on the upgrades might help you out.
  11. dat reading comprehension
  12. Huh, so we might not be getting the F-14 first if that is the case.
  13. Use mouse controls while holding the left or right mouse.
  14. RIO-only licenses for half price would be great if you want to jump in the cockpit with one of your friends who isn't a simmer.
  15. In the 90's, 67 F-14B's (out of 86) were upgraded to use air-to-ground munitions, and these were referred to as "Bombcats." We don't know if Leatherneck is planning to include these upgrades to the A+/B version of the F-14, but let's assume they haven't. Do you think the time and resources it would take to implement air-to-ground capability would be worth it? Would you want them implemented on release day or later?
  16. Please tell me we're going to have the Bombcat upgrades!
  17. We are afraid to report that the delay for the delayed aircraft announcement has been delayed!
  18. Shot in the dark: F-14D first, with A6M Zero and F6F/F4U along with Pacific Theatre map. Mapping out a single island like Iowa Jima or Gaudalcanal out in the pacific is a lot less work than any other theatre in the works, and would be easily achievable with an 8 man team.
  19. The A-10C also has a gun funnel in A-A mode.
  20. Jet Thunder lives? The project seems completely dead or at least on life support, but maybe you can contact some of the Jet Thunder devs to help you out with this. They likely already have a decent amount of information on it, and may be willing to rebuild in EDGE.
  21. R-550 Magic II (heatseeker, like an AIM-9L/M Sidewinder) Super 530D (semi-active radar homing, like an AIM-7M Sparrow) SNEB 68mm rocket pods (18 rockets each) Twin 30mm cannons (125 rounds each) Mark 82 bombs (500lbs each) GBU-12 (no way to self-lase, needs help from other units to guide them) BLG-66 Belouga (cluster bomb, not mentioned by RAZBAM yet but I think early M2K's can use them) AM-39 Exocet (subsonic anti-ship missile) AS-37 ARMAT (anti-radar missile) So we can dogfight, engage BVR, ground pound, use precision guided bombs with the help of other aircraft, as well as do SEAD or anti-ship missions. Lots of gameplay variety!
  22. According to the wiki, the AS-37 can only detect radiation on a very narrow range which has to be set on the ground. Meaning that if you set it up to detect Sa-2's, it wouldn't pick up Sa-6. This seems pretty difficult to implement. Are you going to bother? Edit: sorry, that's for the Martel version. I can't find anything on the ARMAT, it seems very classified.
  23. Looks great! Any chance you could tell us how the M2KC HOTAS works? It looks very simple.
  24. I think we'd all appreciate some more natural controls, such as turn knob left/right or flick switch on/off instead of having to map every single knob position and switch state. Otherwise, great work!
